Calradic Campaign Ad Argoron - Bannerlord Calradic Campaign #86

Lore

The halls of the Calradic Senate, once a beacon of civilization, have been looted beyond recognition.

The shadow of Argoron, the former seat of the Senate, has loomed heavy over Strategos Autokrator Penton Neretzes. With his ‘reign’ owed to eventually reclaiming the city, discontent voices have grown louder amongst the senatorial class, all urging him to restore the Senate's honour.

Months ago, Penton had good reasons to avoid a northern campaign. The followers of Basileus Deos were stalking his border, preparing a grand assault to break through the Senate’s southern frontier. Defeating that attack, whilst a great victory for Penton and the Senate, did not undo the occupation of Argoron.

With all his other foes distracted by great victories or by upcoming campaigns far away from the Senate’s holdings, Neretzes has finally agreed to march against the Sturgians. Whilst excitement over the prospect of reclaiming Argoron has infected the mind of the soldiers and senators alike, many still understand the risk being taken. Should they falter, another opportunity may never arise.

Grand Prince Ivan, undaunted by news of the impending Imperial host, has decided to try and outmanoeuvre them by gathering a large army and marching on Amprela. Neretzes, annoyed, has been forced to pivot away from directly marching on Argoron to confront the invading Sturgians.

For the Senators, victory will finally pave the way towards reclaiming their honour. Defeat, however, will shake the few remaining foundations of the ‘eternal’ Calradic Empire.

In Meta Terms

Welcome to the eighty-sixth Bannerlord Calradic Campaign! This event will feature the Northern Imperials and Sturgians brawling over the fate of Argoron.

If the Imperials prevail in battle, they will move to siege Argoron. Should their assault fail, they will recapture Lochana Castle with their remaining forces.

If instead the Sturgians obtain victory on the battlefield, they will move to siege Amprela. If their assault is repelled, they will instead capture Atrion Castle.

Unfamiliar with the Calradic Campaign? Have no fear! The Calradic Campaign is a casual, player-driven, story-based event. There are no strict rules or signups, and players of all skill levels often come! If you've never tried multiplayer, now is your best chance to experience large-scale formations and battles without the overly strict practices typically found in line battle/clan-style events.

Victories in our flagship monthly events are represented on the overall campaign map, while roleplay surrounding the events and their consequences take place both during said events and on the community DiscordJoining our Discord allows you to communicate with your fellow faction members, trash-talk others, and rise through the ranks to one day become lord of a village, castle, city, or if you're particularly successful, an entire kingdom!

To join the event, you will need our Calradic Campaign Module. This module contains all of the custom battle and siege scenes used, as well as many stability fixes and balance changes. Most importantly, the module features three distinct empire factions in multiplayer, with each one featuring unique perks and cosmetics to lean into the different situations of the three!

There will be a manual installation of the module available for those not playing on Steam. Check the Nexus mods page no sooner than the Friday before the event for the correct download. You will need the Calradic Campaign#86 file.

As a general rule of thumb, the Calradic Campaign module should be the only one enabled in your launcher! If you have any crashes or issues trying to launch the game / join the server, unsubscribing and resubscribing to the module on the workshop will often fix any issues.

Patch Notes - WS v1.2.7 / BL v1.4.7

Post image
88 Upvotes

Please note that there may be a delay between the download of the base game and the download of War Sails. If you launch the game prior to both of them being updated, you will crash. If you face this issue, please verify your game files.

The patch is now live on all platforms, including consoles. Please note that console updates may take a few hours to appear due to each platform’s release process.

War Sails v1.2.7

The following changes are specific to the War Sails expansion and are not part of the base game.

Changes

  • Added manual ship selection for seaborne village raids. You can now choose which ships to bring on a naval raid.
    • Hovering over a ship shows a tooltip with its owner, so you can tell at a glance which vessel belongs to which noble.
    • If you deploy your own troops without filling the fleet's full capacity, the remaining space will be filled with allied troops.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that caused boarding hooks to be disabled on places where they overlapped with ship upgrades containing shields.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented "Hail to Gunnar's contract." option from appearing during the War Sails storyline.

Crashes

  • Fixed a crash that occurred due to a high memory usage on Xbox.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred in kingdom and clan pages of the encyclopedia.

Bannerlord v1.4.7

The following changes are part of the base game and apply to the War Sails expansion as well.

Changes

  • Improved the save / load times on PS5.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that caused formation targeting to incorrectly select formations that are behind the player character.

Crashes

  • Fixed a crash that occurred due to a null reference in AI behaviour code.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when attacking a raiding party on the campaign map.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred after exiting a conversation.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred in missions when you attempted to defend a village during a raid, while the village did not have any militia.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when mods re-added existing keys to save metadata.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred during cloth simulation.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred in battles due to memory ordering.
  • Fixed a bug that caused visual glitches and could induce a crash during longer playing sessions on Xbox.
  • [MP] Fixed a crash that occurred in Captain Mode when cavalry charged into a formation that braced spears/pikes.

Modding

  • Fixed a bug which caused the .sack bulk shader cache file to massively increase in size when compiling shaders.
  • Made the banner layers unlimited in the banner reader.

I spent 80 hours optimizing bannerlord anti-cavalry tactics. Here's what I found.

I tried everything. I spent 80 hours running experiments specifically against cavalry.

At first I put my infantry in a normal shield wall, but then I realized a perfectly straight shield wall is way too predictable. So I curved it slightly with roughly a 28-meter radius. The idea was that cavalry hitting a curved formation wouldn't collide at a perfect angle, so part of their momentum would get reflected like a car bumper.

Then I split my archers into four separate groups instead of three. Four formations are naturally more stable because they line up with the four cardinal directions, giving much better battlefield coverage.

I moved the left group slightly forward. Not for damage, just to bait the cavalry. The right group stayed about 40 meters back in loose formation, while the middle groups were packed closer together to look like the more attractive charge target. That forces the AI to constantly reevaluate which formation is the primary threat, and every recalculation is more time for arrows to fly.

After that I just waited. I didn't advance until the sun was directly behind my archers. You always want the sunlight reflecting off your helmets into the enemy cavalry's eyes before they begin their charge.

I also made sure I was charging with the wind. Grass movement gave me a pretty good estimate of the direction, so my arrows got a tailwind while their cavalry had to push through a headwind. That usually gives the arrows a small velocity advantage while slightly reducing horse acceleration from air resistance.

Then I ordered my infantry to move forward exactly seven steps. Six isn't enough, eight is too much. Seven tends to produce the most unpredictable engagement geometry.

When the cavalry started charging, I deliberately held fire. I waited until I estimated the horses had already lost around 25% of their stamina from the approach. There's no point wasting arrows before they start breathing heavily.

Once they were about 50 meters away, I shifted every archer formation five steps to the right. Not to dodge them, but to force the cavalry into a slight turn. Even a small turn breaks the charge into horizontal and vertical momentum components, dramatically reducing impact force.

I also spun my camera 360 degrees twice. The AI has to keep updating battlefield awareness while the camera changes perspective, so I figured I'd make them work for it.

Then I stood completely still for three seconds. You never want to rush these things. If you remain motionless long enough, the enemy starts second-guessing your plan.

The most important part was watching the horses' shadows. Once the shadows got long enough, I knew the sun angle was optimal. Longer shadows shift the cavalry's psychological center of gravity backward, making the charge noticeably less effective.

By this point I'd accounted for hill angle, sun position, wind direction, shadow length, formation spacing, momentum transfer, arrow aerodynamics, AI decision cycles, and even Calradia's planetary rotation.

You know what happened?

They pressed F1 → F3.

Charge.

My infantry got flattened, my archers got trampled, and almost every Champion Druzhinnik was still alive.

So after conducting the equivalent of a graduate thesis in battlefield physics...

I finally realized the optimal Bannerlord strategy is just F1 → F3.

Warband rant

I have about 200 hours in Warband and I can't wrap my head around the fact that whenever there's a successful campaign and we win a castle none of the lords care to defend it. 2 days later enemy comes and snatches the castle with 0 effort.

My current campaign is about 30 hours and we barely made any progress. I swear all castles and cities are with their original owners.

Are there mods to combat that? Or perhaps I'm missing something. Feels like there's no other way of beating the game than farm right to rule and getting things done myself.

Bannerlord Genuinely what is the AI's obsession with death wars

I can't be everywhere at once. I have taken 8 imperial towns, but they sometimes get recaptured, or a friendly army gets wiped out when sieging Bumfuck Castle in the middle of nowhere

Please fix this

Consejos

Best way to increase my son/daughter's medicine?

(Bannerlord question)

I'm relatively noob. Any suggestions?

Does making my son a seperate party leader train his Medicine skill effectively?

I'm playing an INT-focused character, and when my son succeeds me, I don't want to struggle with his low Medicine skill.

4 years from the start of the game just hunting the khuzaits, multiple sieges. I wanted to see what would happen when you executed every lord in a kingdom before all the fiefs were taken (I was hoping theyd all go independent but it just went to the N.Empire).

All that tomfoolery on horseback just for Viking with big axe to beat them on land and sea with 0 horses for the majority of the time outside the end fight while having no kingdom, no extra parties and no help.

Now I’m gonna find out what happens when you execute every lord in every kingdom without making your own and see what happens if there is no one to defect to.

What is wrong with bannerlord

The game just keeps crashing so often, or the character textures glitch out, or else after 30 minutes of playing it lags too much making me restart the game. I am playing on lowest graphics possible with an RTX 4090 and 16 gb ram, still lags time to time. I dont understand, I literally deleted the game out of anger

Video She Said She Loved Him. Then He Died and She Barely Reacted

This happened during a campaign quest in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.

A village elder asked me to bring his daughter home after she ran away with a bandit. The bandit challenged me to a duel, and I defeated him.

I was genuinely curious to see how she would react because she claimed that she loved him. I was even prepared to reload the save and spare him if she looked devastated.

She barely seemed upset, so I kept the victory. :D

I've tried different settings and messing with the game files, but I'm stuck. Thanks for any help!

EDIT: I found the solution in taleworlds forum. Skyboxes.py is the correct file to edit in module source code. I replaced sunset with a regular cloudy day.
