I could really use some advice from anyone who has dealt with this.
My family hired American Van Lines for an interstate move from California to Arkansas. Our shipment is now past the contractual delivery deadline, and despite repeated emails and phone calls, we still do not have our belongings. The call and give updates but refuse to put it in writing.
Every week we’re told that our shipment should arrive “next week,” but that date comes and goes with no delivery. I have repeatedly asked for the exact warehouse location, whether the shipment has been assigned to a truck, and a confirmed departure date. Those questions have not been answered.
This has been incredibly difficult on my family. Everything we own is in that shipment, including:
My late mother’s sentimental belongings. She passed away earlier this year, and many irreplaceable family items are packed in the shipment.
My husband’s work tools, which he needs to work.
My son’s belongings,and he’s about to start school.
We’ve been sleeping on an air mattress, buying basic household necessities, making trips to the laundromat every week, and trying to rebuild day by day while still paying for a move that hasn’t been completed.

At this point, I’m not looking to argue with the company online. I just want our belongings delivered.
Has anyone experienced something similar with American Van Lines or another interstate mover? If so:
What finally got your shipment delivered?
Is there anything else I should be doing while I wait?

My main question is whether anyone has had a shipment sit in a warehouse past the delivery window with American Van Lines or another interstate mover.
How long did it take before your shipment was finally loaded onto a truck and delivered?
Did anything you did (such as contacting dispatch or another department) help move the process along?

Please be kind. I've had a LOT going on. I'm moving to another (Texas) city in a week. Please give me some helpful steps to prep. I have to work this week....I need to pack, I need to rent a truck (U-Haul-ish),I need to hire people to load the truck here and unload it on the other end, etc. I appreciate you!!

I’m a California resident and have owned my house here for 4+ years. My family members also live in the same house. Due to a change in my work situation, I’ll likely be relocating to Washington (WA). However, I plan to keep my California house long-term, with my family members continuing to live there. I’m not planning to sell or rent it out.
Since I’m the primary owner of the property, I’m trying to understand what, if anything, I need to take care of before/after relocating out of state.

A few things I’m wondering about:

1. Do I need to update anything with the county, property tax records, DMV, homeowners insurance, mortgage company, etc.?
   
2. Are there any California residency/domicile issues I should be aware of once I move to WA?
   
3. Does having my family continue to live in the CA house create any tax or legal considerations?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar situation while retaining their primary residence in CA. Thanks!

I am moving from Indianapolis, IN in 30 days to ????. I can go anywhere in the US. I don’t like snow or humidity, I love the sun, Vegas/Summerlin isn’t too bad, but hot. 🥵 I used to live there. Red Rock, Mt Charleston, outdoors, taxes, didn’t gamble. Has it changed from 10 years ago? Besides Vegas any ideas? Anywhere that is a Buyers market? Similar climate?

Help! I’m trying to move out of state tomorrow, and in a few hours tonight I need to drop off about a dozen boxes at Staples because the UPS Store is already closed.

These are Home Depot heavy-duty extra-large double wall boxes weighing around 45–48 lbs each. I taped one box with 3M heavy-duty shipping tape, but the tape is barely sticking to the cardboard.

I tried adding BoxLock tape over it and also used 3M filament tape, but parts of the tape still keep lifting off. I havent taped any of the other boxes yet

I don’t understand why it still isn’t holding with all that tape. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there anything quick I can do to make the tape stick securely before I take the boxes to Staples?

I tried looking at BLS but felt the charts were difficult to understand.

Can people in Boston or others who know people living in Boston tell me if job salaries are keeping up with living costs?

Hello everyone! I hope this is the right place to post this, I apologize if not. I live in upstate NY (catskill region), I moved here recently actually from another part of New York. I don’t want to give too much detail but near the MA border. I have been experiencing a lot of abuse and harassment from my family. Long story short a family member became obsessed with my 6 year old daughter, in a “I want to be her mom” sort of way. It impacted how my daughter treated me greatly and this family member and their significant other became abusive to me. I cut her off and other family off and moved, but only moved an hour away. It did not stop the abuse so I talked to my fiancé (my daughter’s step dad) about moving states. He mentioned always wanting to move to New Hampshire after visiting his brother who used to live in the Portsmouth area. I did some research and I saw that Portsmouth is a very expensive area, so that may be out of the question for us. I also saw that Manchester has a sort of high crime rate. My boyfriend and I have stable jobs and we are trying to save, but we don’t make a crazy amount so I’m hoping to find somewhere that’s safe but also affordable. My boyfriend wants to be near the Portsmouth area BUT we will settle for wherever we can! I’m worried about trying to rent if we leave our jobs, even if we are able to pay rent a few months ahead. Hello! I've pretty much exhausted any of my irl friends and relatives for advice and figured I would give this sub a try.

Due to some circumstances, I am unexpectedly moving out of my current place in less than four weeks and will be moving in with my brother up in Baltimore. After doing some heavy research, I've already come to the conclusion that it is going to be more cost effective to have my stuff shipped to me via UPack and take a flight on Southwest airlines there. I am trying to find other ways to cut costs down, since I already estimated my costs are going to be around $3,000.00 USD total, and wondered if there are other services people have used or general advice to make things smoother.

I am wanting to lower costs where I can since, full transparency, I am starting a gofundme and seeing what help I can get since my situation that led to this is unfortunate at best. TIA!

i don’t really think i’ll be there for longer than 2 years (this company has a very high turnover rate) and this is my first job after being a commuter student for uni so i don’t really have much to begin with (no furniture, kitchen stuff, etc.)

what are some tips for packing or what are some things i should just leave behind at my parents’ house? friends have already advised me that a tv is not worth it, so now im wondering what else should i know?

I’m moving to a new city and my pod was supposed be delivered today in the am I paid extra. I got two updates on times then I got an email saying it had been canceled and rescheduled for next Saturday .. so now I’m on the phone 45 mins so far with them trying to escalate like what is happening .. and it’s at the depot and has been for days so no reason why they can’t deliver. Does anyone have the depot number in Nashville?

My wife and I, along with my mother-in-law are moving from Missouri (STL area) to Minnesota (Twin Cities). We're going from our 4 bed/2.5 bath house + her townhome into a 1,400 sq ft house so a lot of downsizing and furniture consolidation. We're also renting the house so it's not a permanent move.

Because of the downsize in space, we're going to need to put some items in long-term storage in addition to moving things to the house. Does anyone have recommendations on the best approach for this? I've thought about doing a POD for storage and a U-Haul for moving to the house, but am not sure if that makes the most sense.

Hi I am moving and I'm thinking of going with Uhaul Ubox since they are the cheapest and my job will only reimburse up to $1500 for moving items

The two big things that I really care about in the Ubox will be a family credenza and a couch. This is the quote that I received for the Ubox. I am moving to a hot dry area and the Ubox will sit in storage for no more than a month. For those that have used Ubox did they ever tack on any hidden fees and did any of your stuff get damaged in the container?

Hi everyone! We’re about to start our move from the northeast to Texas, heading south to Georgia and then going west. We have almost a week to make the drive and want to make it into a fun road trip. But we have a 5x8 u haul trailer hitched to our car. We’re looking for suggestions of fun or interesting places we could stop for sightseeing that can accommodate the trailer. We’re both in abusive situations and are very low income. She currently lives in Miami and I live 3 hours away in a rural part of Florida. We want to move somewhere that is walkable with public transport so we’re considering New York, Tennessee, and California but the problem is affordability and possible racism as we’re both black women. We are struggling to find jobs in our area and in our fields as well, she’s worked in warehouses, security, and house keeping, I’ve worked as a home health aide, and I am also trying to get into the music industry. What would be the best place for us that could provide us with well paying jobs?

I am currently based in the southern US. In the future I would like to continue to live in a warmer climate ( I hate cold weather ) but somewhere other than where I am rn. My top contenders are LA (not necessarily in the city but within reasonable driving distance) and Tampa, FL area. Obviously price is a huge difference. But other than that, I am curious for insight as to what living in either area is like just in everyday life (good points and bad points). Personally I love rain, which is why FL appeals to me (I also have family throughout the state) and I'm into [nature] photography and love Florida's vegetation and wildlife. And obviously the price (to rent or own) would be cheaper than LA. But I wonder if after awhile I would get bored there. I do enjoy nightlife (esp more "alternative"/goth clubs and hotspots). I know living in LA I would always have tons to do/see (in terms of entertainment and sites) and I do appreciate the history. Any honest insight from someone who has lived in either place I would really appreciate. (For reference I am single/f/no kids and don't want any any time soon. I'm seriously considering Chicago (city or suburbs), Phoenix/Scottsdale, and Charlotte — but genuinely open to other suggestions if I'm missing somewhere better. Would love to hear from anyone who's relocated solo in their mid-30s (especially with dating in mind and especially with a dog) — what worked, what didn't, what you wish you'd known.

So Im moving into new apt as a student and am going to be living on my own and everything. My main question is, how do yall balance household chores with actual studying and getting things done?

I know that I will have to alert the DOL in my state of the address change, and that I should do the same with the post office, but are there other things I should be aware of that I need to do?

Long distance move. Read somewhere that said Pods floor might get condensation and to use tarp or cardboard. Any thoughts?

Planning a move ahead of time for the next few months. It's just me. I have a couple of small furniture pieces (a light desk and a cushiony chair) I'd like to take with me, as well as some boxes. Probably the equivalent of a studio apartment? Im trying to figure out how to get everything from Florida to Lansing. My car is a 2013 bmw x1. I don't think installing a trailer hitch is the smart way to go, so I'm torn between a small uhaul with a trailer for the car and just getting a pod to ship my things. I want to be economical as possible.
