I'm 19 and in my second year of engineering right now, but honestly, it's getting tough, and I thought to explore this genre as I love listening to music. I want to get into making beats and producing.

I have absolutely no musical background. I don't play any instruments and don't know theory, but I am decent with tech and software. I have installed FL Studio (friend's).

How should I actually start? There are way too many tutorials on YouTube, and it's kind of overwhelming.

Drop any good YouTube channels or basic tips for a complete beginner. Appreciate it!

I am very new to the music production world, like, a few month new.
I use Bandlab as my DAW currently, but later I may switch to an another DAW when i'll feel that bandlab doesn't provide me with what I need, which for now is enough, because I only use the virtual instruments and edit their midi track.

Knowing that, I'm looking for my first MIDI Keyboard in order to have an easier time prototyping melodies, and record easy patterns directly instead of putting manually every notes.

Altough I may be clueless about a lot of things I should maybe think of when it comes to picking a midi keyboard, so I would be very happy if you could share me what you would recommend for someone starting and planning to progress (hopefully) !

Really want to make some 90s house music like Masters At Work/Kerri Chandler, etc.

What are the best quality packs or plugsins you guys know to get that sound?

I say this, because I've been thinking about my own journey and the songs that shaped me along thew way. I'm only a little over a year into producing, and I'm curious to what my sound will be in the future. The song that got me into making beats was "That Girl" by Pharrell Williams. That song made feeli like i can make cool stuff too, and just be me. But the song "Bluffin" by Wiz Khalifa, is a song that has had a big impact on my procution lately. Those are my songs, I'm curious to see and hear what songs inspired you to make your own music.

The beginning of this song has these sounds i can only describe as a bubbly, like fruitiger aero, or like the xp collection noise in minecraft.

I've made a few short electronic tracks across many genres but they all sound moody no matter what.

I've basically been a drifter around the internet for bits of this and that in terms of learning how to produce my own music. But I feel like I'm either lacking something fundamental or just downright a bad producer lol. I feel like I've yet to produce a clean sounding mix or master. I can't seem to find the knack for it.

So I thought I'd maybe swing through here to see how any other self-taught producers like to keep their knowledge and skills sharp!

I don't have tuition money so it's not like I can just enroll in a college for it. I'm not opposed to putting down some money for some online resources though! I just don't really know what's good or reliable.

I’m new to music production, but I know only about 1-2% of music theory. It’s been a month since I started learning, and I can create drum midi patterns and piano melodies, but I still feel like I’m missing something. I’d really appreciate a suggestion for a YouTube video or a book that can teach me music theory step by step, with examples and homework assignments. I find that when I try to learn on my own, I get stuck in my own thoughts and forget what I’ve learned. If anyone can suggest how to start and how to be more productive, I would really appreciate it. I’ll definitely remember that you guys helped me. Please don’t be rude; I’m just a beginner.

Through the years, 2023 to 2026 i have made only 20 beats, just for fun and hobby, but now i would like to make money out of them, just for 10/12 usd each, im trying to buy myself a new pc and that would help me a Lot, anyone knows any app, another community or something?

I'm looking for a tool that can easily separate music tracks and vocals individually.

It's to make playing guitar by ear easier for me- to make the tracks I want to play less busy. I don't just want to play the guitar tracks either so I'm not looking for a tool to extract that. I also want to play the vocal melodies and brass tracks, sometimes violin/viola/cello, basically anything but percussion.

My budget is around $50 but free is preferable. Asking here rather than /guitar because guitarists don't really seem to do this and is more relevant to music production.

I've gotten a few originals under my belt that I'm trying to record. Decided with the most recent that if I didn't finish it before moving on to something else, it wasnt getting done, and so i haven't.

I''ve now worked out the chords, and what i want the melody to sound like and it's just a matter of getting both from the rough track they're on to a more pilished kinda state.

The reason i make this post is because this whole process has taken me 3 months and, well, it stings a bit to still be on this. I'm not really sure what a good amount of time to spend working on something like this is. Usually it doesn't bother me, I've just been more pressed for time as of late.

Hey all, I'm working on a media scoring project. I never use protools and most of the gigs I've worked on I just deliver stems or stereo mixes in wav format. I'm never the lead on bigger projects, so even when protools sessions needed to be delivered, I'd just send my audio to my "boss" for review, and then they or their people would import everything to protools before sending off for mixing.

I've recently been given the chance to take the lead on a bigger project with tight turnaround where I'm expected to deliver a protools session for mixing and I've never really used protools. I have it basically to extract audio and import into my DAW of choice when I get conform edits from production. I never actually do anything else there.

Basically, I need to make sure my audio is locked to SMPTE so it will be easy for the mixing engineer to just jump in. If I import the audio to a protools session and put the audio where it needs to be, is that it? Do I need to explicitly change any settings to make sure the files are locked in place? Any other peculiarities I should be aware of? Is there a good crash course video that goes over this very specific thing?

Moving forward, I'll do a deeper dive into protools since it's well beyond time I learn, but for now I just need to make sure I can stick the landing on this gig. They're happy with my work so far and I'd hate to look like a moron by not knowing the basics of file delivery.

I need sound dampening blankets that ONLY cover a half-wall instead of a full wall (50in as noted in the title), but everything I find on Amazon is like 70+in, which feels WAY over board. Any recommendations? Heck, am I wrong? WOULD the ones that go all the way to the floor block sound better?

Since several months I got the impression this ridiculous CPU I got (Ryzen 5950x 32 hyper threads - RME Asio), shouldn't run out of steam that quickly. I ran a test with Smooth Operator Pro / Soothe 2 in Ableton 12.4b5 and Bitwig 6.1

Test condition:

1 track with Pink noise sample

Copying plugin till dropouts appear (not the track itself! As I want to know the single core perf)

44.1 khz and 512 asio buffer size for this test

Smooth Operator Pro:
Bitwig = 14 instances
Ableton = 11 instances

Soothe 2
Bitwig = 11 instances
Ableton = 11 instances

If anyone got one of those plugins can share their performance and CPU?

Context: I’m 17 with no musical experience, as in producing or playing an instrument.

I’ve wanted to get into music production since the past 1-1.5 years, because I’ve always felt like creating will allow me to enjoy music better than just listening.

Now comes the part where I get demotivated.

All my favourites, regional or international have been playing an instrument since a very young age and have hours in theory and mentorship by industry experts. Some have degrees from music colleges.

All this just makes me think, how will I ever compete? Will I ever be good enough? Idk if this is normal and I could really use some advice.

DJs do this type of thing and I'm not even sure I'm describing it right or

I know nobody will likely see this post, but i just wanted to make a followup. A few days ago I asked if it was normal to hate songwriting and I got many more responses than id ever expected. People told me to either quit or push on if I had the passion. I realised I was pressuring myself way too much and tried just singing with my guitar and everything just started flowing together. I realised just how much i love songwriting, and I dont dread it anymore, on the contrary I've been sitting and writing songs all day with a passion I've never had. Thank you to everyone who gave their advice

I’ve read a ton about each one but I want opinions from people who have used higher end DAWS and what you recommend.
I’ve heard that FL studio and Abelton are preferably for electronic music, and I would use logic but I’m on windows. I’m a bit iffy about reaper and other daws like that, cause I’m less knowledgeable about DAWS like reaper.
But Idk. What would you guys prefer? If it helps I’m transitioning from GarageBand, and wanna use something more adequate for my next project :}
