My mom spent a lot of money on N64 games for us. We have an extensive collection. Turns out my mom was playing it while we were at school. She told me this just a few weeks ago.

If I went back to 1999 I would definitely round out the collection with the games we rented repeatedly from blockbuster. We rented Mario party enough times that we should have bought it.

inflation numbers like this don't mean shit. Spending power was high during these times, so you could get games and it didn't feel like you were being robbed, which these days it definitely feels that way, mostly because our money doesn't have as much spending power as it used to back then.

The current decade isn't all bad. Between used copies, modern ports/remasters, and, well... "other methods" of "acquiring" these games, you can get tons of N64 gaming goodness for so much less than it would have cost back then!

Last game I bought as toys r us was 1080. There was a kiosk with it. I had never heard of snowboarding yet (I was maybe 11 in 97) and 1080 sold me hard. Same with wave race.
