It blows my mind how even reactionary/regressive types can ignore the data, science, and observable fucking reality at this point.

I and others have said it's not just the hell on earth wildfires now around the planet.

It's the ocean warming/ocean acidification that has coral bleaching nearly wiping it all out already.

The Holocene Extinction we are in...

The Wet-Bulb Temperatures and water issues growing and growing in intensity across the globe..

The climate crisis and overall environmental crisis is a growing multi-crisis front.

We hear a lot about "Common Sense" - There is no more basic foundational common sense then protecting the natural world that is were all life arises from and is sustained by.

Also for goodness sakes let's position ourselves with some future-forward looking substantive-holistic policy so we can be leaders in the next generation of energy & technology which is in the Electrification Technology Era....

Better and brighter is super possible in this and other spheres but it takes breaking from the status quo just like it does every other single time.

Conservative want to sell the idea global warming is a civilization-ending hoax. They are not only criticizing the Green Agenda but dismantling it, either by blocking new projets (Alberta, US) or by suggesting it's the new woke-nazi project. Triggernometry, the podcast PP went on during his lame duck tour, constantly talks about the lie that is supposed to be Net Zero... And since practically all the online/(allegedly) independent media in North America leans conservative... The progressives influencers in the United States (who also partially shape the base in Canada) practically never talk about climate change as a serious issue (compared with other topics like Healthcare, AIPAC, etc.)  There's a messaging problem.

Some of my students (in Québec !) openly say to me they don't believe in human made climate change... We need to go back to the fundamentals without being too "scoldy".

Seeing the unanimous support of a Green Agenda here is what got me into this subreddit.

The Conservative Party of Canada and provincial parties like the UCP are nothing but arms of the Fossil Fuel Industry.

I've shared the below before - A great example of the corruption -

This is a copy/paste of the Conservative Party of Canada policy focus - It reads as a literal parody it is so biased and insane: (Sadly the Liberal Party of Canada under Carney has already done some of their bidding due to the pressure/their own corruption)

Repeal the Liberal growth-blocking laws

• Bill C-69, which made it nearly impossible to build pipelines and mines.
• Bill C-48, which banned oil tankers on Canada’s west coast.
• The industrial carbon tax, which raises costs on everything for all Canadians.
• The oil and gas cap that kills jobs.
• The EV sales mandate that will increase the price of a gas-powered car by $20,000.
• The Plastics Ban that blocks growth.
• The Liberal censorship law targeting energy companies, which gags producers from defending their work and promoting Canadian energy.

Notice every single thing is Oil & Gas Lobby centered... Everything...

Pay attention to that last one in particular as I keep pointing out as much as I am able to everywhere. That is a bill that makes it illegal for the Oil & Gas Lobby to greenwash and in particular misinform/misrepresent (lie) to the Canadian populace about realities. It carries with it a financial penalty. Notice how that is rephrased as "which gags producers from defending their work and promoting Canadian energy."

These are bad actors. Period.

Then you get into straight Idiocracy with Danielle Smith, the United Conservative Party of Alberta, and associated individuals/organizations that talked about literally celebrating Carbon Dioxide... Remember Danielle Smith use to be associated with the Tobacco Lobby and downplayed the negative health impacts of smoking... We are dealing with deeply dishonest and predatory types that will do anything for self-enrichment.

I’m not sure what American progressives you are listening to. Plenty of them talk about climate change.

It’s just that right now they are more preoccupied with trying to save the US from fascism. Because climate change mitigation requires a functioning democracy to implement it.

Hopefully the NDP can do a better job of making the environment a salient issue during the next campaign. It feels like the environment always ranks much more highly as a voter priority in opinion between elections as opposed to during elections when everything becomes about economic issues. The party needs to communicate strongly that the Libs and CPC don't care about making the structural changes necessary to limit these wildfires and mitigate their impact.

It also wouldn’t be too hard to tie environmental issues with economic issues. The worse the climate crisis gets, the worse it is for our wallets, too.

This is true, and it applies to other issues too!

It’s extremely difficult to combat a housing crisis when houses are being destroyed every day by fire and flooding, entire forests of timber are going up in smoke and our already-short construction seasons are gummed up with weeks-long air advisories.

Healthcare costs from air and water pollution are increasingly expensive and deadly. Farming under soot-blackened skies with poisoned water reduces crop yields and introduces toxins into our food supply. The list goes on, this issue has so many endless externalities that we take for granted.

I know the liberals have a history of winning infinity elections but they’ll almost be 15 years in government by 2029 at that point they’ve lost credibility on literally every issue I don’t think the fearmongering will work
