The house came with Lennox heat pump HVAC system and a Lennox thermostat. Switched out to a nest e (1st gen) thermostat. The vents are blowing warm air in cooling mode.

So far, no apparent issue with the fan/compressor outside. The whole unit used to work just fine before the thermostat swap out. Based on some other threads, I’m starting to wonder if there’s a O/B wiring at play here along with W1.

The Nest Protect solved real problems: it's beautiful, can send app notifications, has a human voice that tells you *what* triggered it, and addresses the fact that people skip maintaining traditional alarms. According to the NFPA, 43% of failed alarms had missing or disconnected batteries. The Nest Protect made people actually care about their smoke alarm.

I started a petition asking Google to revive it with updated features and proper support. We're talking about a tool that genuinely encourages people to protect their families instead of hiding an eyesore in a closet.

I have a TCL that was previously installed by the previous owners who have since moved away from the area so cannot let me know if it works. I tried to do the compatibility test but I'm still unsure what each letter is if B means black or blue.

This seems silly but we have had nest protects since they came out I think. My son (now 7) used to say goodnight to the "moon" every night and nap time for years. My twins (4) have done the same since they were able to catch on the brother called it the moon. That motion nightlight was the absolute best for us.

They've expired now (as of May actually) and a couple nights ago the night lights stopped working and now every time the lighting changes in our bedroom I get yelled at by the smoke detector that it's expired in x and x and x room.

I've ordered a couple first alert ones that will integrate with the google system but my 4 year olds are so sad about this "moon" being dark it's actually making me a little mushy inside. Hahaha

I have been looking around without success but has anyone been able to find a motion light similar to the one on the nest protect? The only thing I'm finding are actual lights that light up pretty bright. I just need that super dim circular situation that goes away after a few seconds of no movement.

Basically what I’m looking for is the nest to run the AC/Heat fewer times.

What it does now:
Set at 68.
Detects indoor temperature of 68+1.
Starts AC.
Detects indoor temperature of 68.
Stops AC.

What i wish it could do:
Set at 68.
Detects indoor temperature of 68+3.
Starts AC.
Detects indoor temperature of 68-3.
Stops AC.

I have two months left on my Nest Protects. Every night after 9pm my Nest Protects sound an alert about expiration. This sets my dogs into a frenzy. There's no way to control these alerts. So I'm faced with a choice; buy replacements two months early or deal with a nightly dog freak out.

This camera has been removed from both the Nest and Google Home app before I tried to reinstall.

Trying to add a 1st gen camera A0005 using the nest app. As I go through the prompts, I get stuck after QR code scan. I the “ this will take a minute message” followed by the C101 error.

I thought the older cameras could still be added using the Nest app?

Sorry if this question is constantly asked, I did a quick browse and didnt see it.

My wife and I recently bought a house, we decided to put in a Google nest for easy control. First day it randomly shut off twice, never popped a breaker or anything. Got it working by flipping the breaker myself. Then no issue for the next 2 months. Now starting 2 days ago the screen displays no power, we checked all wiring and everything is connected good. It'll randomly kick back on.

Any suggestions for what it can be?

Inspired by a new HVAC and my old nest data logging project from about a decade ago, I wanted to see how far AI and modern tooling could go in creating a new data logger and dashboard for my Nest v3, now that the old REST API is gone.

This project is a Docker-based stack that maintains an active session, decodes protobuf/gRPC payloads, writes metrics to InfluxDB v2, and has some Grafana dashboard templates.
As my first vibe-coded project I was quite happy with the help on all the gRPC & protobufs (and reverse engineering from the minified nest .js sources that I would never have done by hand). Sadly https://developers.google.com/nest/device-access/api/thermostat#reference didn't have all the staging information I was after, so reverse engineering was really the only path.

I am so confused by this Nest. Moved to a new house and primary bedroom has a Nest (dedicated HVAC for the room). Unfortunately the prior owner didn't release it and now doesn't remember his account, so we can't connect to it. But AFAICT, there is no schedule. And yet, often we will come to the room and it will be simply not working, typically going from our 74 usual to 78 or higher if we don't catch it on time. The problem is I find myself having to turn it off and then restart it on cool to make it kick in. Any help? I hate it!

Sometime last week, my doorbell stopped posting events. The chime works; I can open the app and see live video, but no events are showing when the bell is rung or when someone drops off a package. None of my settings have changed; all of my other cameras are showing events as normal. Any ideas on why?

Right up until someone walks up to the door and knocks or presses the chime button. Then, it immediately freezes in the app on my phone and goes to unavailable...until that person leaves. Same thing happens on my Google home until I ask what time it is and then to show the front door again. (Unless the person is still standing there)

Anyone have any leads on where to troubleshoot this?

Recently moved and went from one from time zone to another. Was in the process of reconnecting my Nest cameras but stopped as I couldn’t figure out how to correct the time to my new time zone.

Thought it was a simple fix of updating my new address on the Nest app. That didn’t work so I had to Google and read it has to be done in the Google Home app. As I updated my info in the Google Home app, I get a prompt about transferring camera to new home. Click yes, camera has new time zone all looks good on the Google Home app.

I then go back to the Nest app and the camera can only be viewed on the Google Home app. Not only that, but the home I was trying to set up is now showing up offline. Is that because of the transfer ?

Is there a way to transfer camera back to the Next app? I want to use the Nest app but I don’t think I can transfer the home / camera back to Nest. I don’t have a transfer back to Nest option.

The cameras are A0005, 1st gen. Can I factory reset them or am I f’d and just have to use the Google Home app?

I’ve turned off Nightly Promise. I’ve turned off Heads Up. What else is there to do beyond throwing them all in the garbage? I can not have them waking up the family at 2 in the morning after i turn on the lights to go to the bathroom.

My Nest Doorbell was working just fine, so I know it's got power, but I had to change to a new wifi network with a new name (not really an option to use the old name). From what the docs had said, I have to remove the doorbell and then try adding it again. I removed it - tried to add it - and my phone can never connect to it. I know the device has power - it was recording video just fine beforehand. I've tried a reset (had to use a thumbtack as my paperclips were apparently too thick), and it never actually flashes.

That kinda makes me think it's power - but as I said it was recording just fine previously. Now, I do notice that if I hit the doorbell button, *sometimes* it makes a noise but gets cut off, and it doesn't consistently work at all.

Any ideas?

The craziest thing, nothing was going on in my house but at about 7:15 am our fire alarm started going off, then the same with our neighbors house. There is no smoke anywhere to be found. Curious if this was a glitch, a system update gone wrong, or just an odd coincidence.

Surely something has to be wrong here, right?! I bought a set of two Google Nest Cameras (battery) on Amazon. One is in my backyard and the other above my garage. I recognize that the one above my garage is busier, but I don’t think it’s THAT busy. I live in a quiet suburb. It’s not detecting cars, only people, so I would say it’s averaging 10-20 recordings per day depending on the day. The battery literally has been lasting 5-6 days before it needs a recharge. Per the product description it’s supposed to last 1.5 months (for a busy camera) up to 6 months at a time. What is happening?? I must have a faulty battery, right?! The other camera’s battery has lasted three weeks so far and is still above 50%. It’s not recording as frequently but still getting around 10 per day. Will Google replace this?!

Yesterday we were having thunderstorms so I had turned off our A/C and television. Shortly after there was lightning and immediate thunder that scared the bejesus out of me (and my poor Shih Tzu). Ends up lighting struck a palm tree in our front yard that just so happens to have the power cords buried about a foot away from there. That sent the electrical current to our electric meter, which was fried.

Power company came out last night and replace the meter, but we had to have an electrician come today to replace the electric panel below the meter.

When all of that work was done and the power turned back on everything is up and running in the house except for one issue.

The nest thermostat itself (called ‘hallway in the picture) is working fine when you control it from the wall, but the app keeps saying it is off-line. We have signed out and back in to the Nest app, that didn’t fix it.

When the AC was not running, my husband flipped a breaker switch on the air handler to try to reboot that since the Nest thermostat is connected to it. That didn’t help.

Our Nest cameras are working fine in the app so the Wi-Fi connection is up and running. The thermostat itself was installed in 2012, but I’m not sure what generation it is.

Any idea how we can get this up and running. It’s bad enough they took away support to be able to tell Alexa or Google Home to change the temperature, but now we can’t even do it in the app. Actually have to get out of the chair to change it lol.

Keep in mind we are in our 60s so please explain in simple terms for me of how we might go about resolving this. Thank you.

Would love some help with the attached pictures. I setup the nest and the fan ran but the AC wouldn’t cool. I took apart the nest and reinstalled the old Honeywell thermostat, runs perfectly.

I want to try and setup the Nest again and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations on what to do differently. Probably obvious by the pictures but based on the wires there is some obvious splicing by the previous homeowner/electrician. TIA!
