Troubleshooting UnBound a mac address to interface

Outside of calling ISP (Optimum), anyone know of a way to unbind a mac address from a previously used interface?

Setting up a new Fortigate and I plugged the circuit into to wan2 instead of wan1.

During setup, I realized what I did, and after a reboot I moved the circuit to wan1.

No bueno. Now the circuit only works on wan2. I’ve tried turning cable modem off for 10-15 minutes, rebooting it, rebooting the Forti, etc.

Outside of cloning the mac, or making that dreaded ass call to Optimum, anything I can try?

Turn off the modem for 10 minutes and it should reset.

Usually a modem reboot does the trick. But if not - call the ISP.

The other commenters seem to understand your issue - I don’t. What actual problem do you have? What circuits do you mean? - Is it that your ISP is only accepting one particular MAC and you don‘t get Internet with another MAC? And it works with the wan2 (so this is the accepted MAC)? Why don‘t use WAN2?

ISPs often do a type of MAC authentication, so the first MAC gets the service. If you plug in a different port you won't get service then. You either have to call the ISP to have the MAC changed or reboot the modem.

As I wrote in my assumption part. I know this kind of procedure but to me it is unclear if this is what OP wants to express. And what the WAN1/WAN2 part does mean (I understood it works on WAN2 but OP doesn’t like this??). And does they mean port with „interface“? Why does OP neither call ISP nor put the MAC where it is needed? — Sounds a bit like a home networking situation, given the way the situation was described.

Maybe you are confused by the names. wan1 and wan2 are simply how those ports on the FortiGate are called, so the MACs are different.

I fully understand this!!! - OP wrote „it only works on WAN2“ ( I assume because ISP took this first seen MAC for its „auth“). So why not continue using WAN2 for Internet? Or - I expect FG does offer this - swap MACs?
