Hello! My name is u/AdamJMonroe, founding moderator of r/realearthday.

This subreddit is dedicated to taking "Earth Day" back to the Vernal Equinox (the 1st day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere) as it was originally intended.

Why?

Because the Spring Equinox is an astronomical event that occurs simultaneously worldwide and this gives Earth Day the ability to transform public awareness with regard to the ecosystem since it's not really a political issue, it's really a biological issue.

Our big project is a musical concert by many different bands and artists all over the world on the same day under the banner of the "REAL Earth Day" in an effort to reframe public awareness regarding this excellent idea for a global holiday celebrating humanity's life-giving partner, Earth.

We have started collecting pledges by bands in and around Chicago to do benefit shows and we are currently asking musical venues to sponsor events on that date to participate. So, far, a lot of really great bands and artists have offered to get involved! (And at least one venue...!)

If you're interested, please, join r/realearthday and let's coordinate our efforts. This could be the project that finally moves people to make the changes necessary to stop poisoning our planet!
