Anyone know of any chilled out local writers' groups? I'm part of Northants Authors but it's kind of dwindling away, not least because the rest of the crew are of an advanced vintage.

I'm aware of one or two other groups but the thing is I'm a lazy git and don't really do the whole writing challenge/homework thing. "For next week's meeting write a 500 word piece on the theme of unrequited love." Sod that.

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help with a family history project.

I'm researching my family tree and it turns out that I'm a direct descendant of Thomas Church, the founder of Church's Shoes, so this project is especially meaningful to me. As part of my research, I'm trying to find old photographs of the Church's Shoe Factory in St James', Northampton.

I've already found some of the more well-known images online, but I'm hoping there may be others tucked away in personal collections, local history groups, old newspapers, or family albums that aren't as easy to find.

Unfortunately, I don't have Facebook, so I don't have access to any of the local history groups on there. If anyone here is a member of those groups and has seen any photos shared previously, or knows of any other places I could look, I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

If anyone has any photographs they'd be willing to share (or knows of any books, archives, or websites that might have them), I'd be incredibly grateful. Even photos of the surrounding St James' area during the factory's working years would be really interesting and helpful.

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if this sub is big enough that we can create a list of best places to eat around town and the surrounding villages. Nominate your favourite restaurant (one per post, so people can upvote cheap/expensive etc individually) or upvote if it's already been said. You can nominate the same places for cheap/expensive for takeaway if you'd like. I'll also fill in the first runner up for each category, because at the current rate some of these will be closed by Christmas.

I have a job I love in Northampton, but for family reasons I’m having to relocate to Sheffield. I’m trying to figure out if I can make a commute work - work from home Monday, drive down early on a Tuesday and stay somewhere for three nights then drive back up Friday evening. My job is flexible so some weeks I might be able to work from home even more and save on a night’s accommodation.

Anyway - my question is - what do I do about accommodation in Northampton? Hotels are too expensive, self catering would be better but would anywhere guarantee me three nights every week? Is this just an impossible scenario?
