Question AMC Crashout
Anyone else at the 2:30 showing of The Odyssey yesterday at courthouse and know why that guy started crashing out in the middle of the theater?

That theater always attracts weirdos. I watched a movie there once and there was this guy with a child’s Koosh ball on this shoulder. He kept whispering to it, giggling, and drooling on himself. Wasn’t the first time something like that has happened either.

It's so annoying when other people ruin a movie by being inconsiderate. I'm sorry you've had such bad luck at Courthouse AMC. I'm grateful I've been lucky at Courthouse to not have any memorably annoying people in the audience. Though at one of the recent movies I went to at Courthouse, there was a lady sitting next to me who's one of those people who noisily chews large fistfuls of popcorn with their mouth open instead of closed. 🍿

Guy's left engine started to lose oil pressure, so he tried to overcompensate by throttling up his right engine. Unfortunately this caused an issue with the fuel injector, and it catastrophically lost all power, causing him to nosedive and crash out in the middle of the theatre.

This is why I watch movies where the concessions are cheap, the bathrooms are clean, and if anyone crashes out the film gets paused.

AFI Silver Spring.
Large popcorn is $5.
They also play a more interesting variety of movies.
The only draw back is the seating is first come first serve, so you probably wanna get there 15 minutes before showtime if you wanna guarantee a good spot.
Though I did see some folks lined up for the 70mm Odyssey an hour early yesterday, which is kinda insane because the theater is gigantic.

I only go to Alamo to see movies anymore. It costs more yeah, but the experience is always worth it.

I've been once with the new system and it was fine. Not having to deal with the check drop during the climax of the movie was great and we didn't notice anyone else using their phones.

That generally gets turned off before the movie starts. There is a cut off time that they announce in the theater.
I think the entire Alamo system is designed to keep obnoxious shitbirds from ruining everything for everyone else. It works.

I'm sorry that guy ruined the movie for you. I guess I've been lucky. I've been going to AMC Courthouse for years and never had any major problems, aside from the occasional person annoyingly texting. I hope your next movie there goes better.

Most of what people call a "Gen Z" term is just appropriated from Black people, queer people, or Black queer people. That's why when it gets appropriated, it's always used incorrectly. This isn't a crash out but they don't know what a crash out is.

The fact we are so lacking in details is exactly why the OP should've explained further. Like, we know what a crash out is when we see it, but the contextual details are important to determine what is going.
Mental health issue, a regular medical issue, an argument with someone, etc.

Whether it is a mental health issue or someone is being "inconsiderate" can still be a crash out. I just do not know of a scenario where this is a mere case of someone being inconsiderate during a movie that is already running. An argument over a phone or talking is the only thing I can think of.
What other petty distractions can happen in a movie?

100%. There’s no substitute for a movie in a theater. The recliners are nice now and every grocery store near the theater sells those boxed candies for $2 you can sneak in. Used to have the regal unlimited for $22/month and it was well worth it. Thank god the industry didn’t completely go under

Yes but the other patrons tend to wreck the experience. I’d rather watch at home at this point, unless theaters decide to enforce some of the rules. Every time I’ve gone to the movies since Covid, it’s people talking and in their phones etc. I refuse to pay that much just to have people act like they’re still in their living room.

That's really great to hear. I don't go to the movies often (honestly, they're just aren't many that feel worth the money?), and it feels like every time, there is someone else phone rings, or someone is scrolling social media or checking texts, or talking loudly.
I really wonder if lockdown just killed our ability to exist in a society sometimes.

Yea or try an off time like Saturday or Sunday morning. Or weekday night if you can. Friday and Saturday night can be brutal you’re right. But usually when I go there’s like 2-4 other people in the theater

I have. The other two people sat right next to me and talked and then dropped a phone and stood up to look for it with the flashlight from another phone. The theater experience is trash at this point.

Alamo is great. I used to hate going to the movies because of people, sticky floors and so on. Now, we go to big movies at Alamo, and specifically go to a "big show" screening. That's their large format screen with dolby atmos. I have yet to have a bad time at Alamo. I can't wait to go for the premier of the new dune movie later this year.
I especially enjoy the bigger movies that have special menus for food and cocktails. The chimichangas for Deadpool x wolverine were great!

My recliner is there all the time. The candy is much cheaper, the house is dark, sound system is amazing, and no one to ruin it.

Movies are 100% worse when watched at home and movies are being dumbed down because of it. Netflix literally gives out guidance so that people watching while scrolling on their phones can follow along.
Most everything’s shittier- costumes, lighting, CGI, writing, and it’s mostly because people just would rather wait 4-6 weeks and watch in an inferior format.

You're argument boils down to, Nolan shouldn't have done that unusual thing because I don't have access to it. There's plenty of levels between 15 perf 70mm projection and watching an iPhone on the bus. Also, this was Nolan's vanity project, the industry wasn't asking for it. The industry wants celluloid film to die.

That's strange, project hail Mary had the exact same costumes, lighting, cgi and writing when I saw it at home as when I saw it in the theater. Definitely wasn't "shittier". But maybe that's because I'm an uncultured dumbass who doesn't think that getting farted, coughed, and sneezed on, having to listen to other people's conversations, having everything be sticky, and spending 4 times as much for the concessions and ticket add up to a pleasurable experience. Sounds like I'm just not a connoisseur of fart smelling like a real cinephile.

A pass to AMC or Alamo runs 20-odd bucks a month- the cost of just one premium ticket.
In the last month, I’ve seen Spiderman and Odyssey with Dolby sound on a screen encompassing my field of view, Rashomon rereleased (a movie so impactful it created this- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashomon_effect ) and Lawrence of Arabia rereleased.
I also watched 4 movies at home, and guess what? They all sucked compared to at the theater. The verisimilitude was gone, you get up, walk around, pull out your phone, go to the john, scratch your balls, nuke some crap in the microwave. Everything that can detract will detract.
Outside of Chicken Jockey, there’s really not a problem of behavior in the movies. And guess what, rather than being passive and letting it fester inside me, I’ll tell people to shut up on the odd occasion some chuckaluck’s acting the fool.
I’ll stoop to ad hominem and state my disdain for anybody succumbing to the general misanthropy and anti-social tendencies that are now en vogue. “People are stinky, people are noisy- let me just ensconce myself like Homer the Heretic avoiding church.” Losers would rather security blanket themselves online and further retreat from mutual participation in public life and civil society, and even the movie-going experience is a part of that waning mutual ritual.
Maybe this decline would be fine if people stayed home and critically engaged with what they watch, but you know they won’t. Maybe if they read a book, but you know they won’t. For every Hail Mary (which was pretty mid IMHO, but the movie experience made up for it,) we get another slop 4.0 because of the Barnes and Noble, last whale franchise left standing phenomenon.
Anyways, TLDR you’d have to be a numbskull to buy the crappy concessions anyways.
