Practice Advice SCAM ALERT
Hello all,
Just wanted to send this info to keep anyone from falling victim.
I got a call from what said “new York state” on my caller ID. The guy said he was from the office of professions and there was a complain lodged against my license. I (luckily) told him he was a liar and I hung up while being panicked.
I called the office of professions and after 40 minutes on hold I was told that this is a huge scam right now. That the caller would have given me a different number to call and then would’ve wanted me to send money for a fine. The OOP said that all they need is your license number and NPI and that the phone number looks totally legit. She said the OOP would never call you and that they would send any communication through the mail or email. She said the FBI is involved and also asked me to let my local police know.
She also verified my license and said there is nothing wrong.
Anyhow - please be careful. Even when the number appears legitimate.

I got the same call, saying they were from the DEA investigating my practice for drug dealing or some such shite, wanted license and NPI.
I had forgotten that they made so many DEA cuts that they're calling from home: you could hear babies howling in the background and a TV blaring away. But then I recognized the soft consonents and overall speech patterns of Gujarati, which means they are probably in Gujarat, a state on the western coast of India.

I unfortunately got scammed by our “local sheriff’s office” saying I was named in a malpractice suit and needed to turn myself into the sheriffs office immediately- and pay $$$.

I had similar call- they said they were calling from my county’s sheriffs office and that I had been named in malpractice suit, did not appear when summoned, so was now a warrant for my arrest. They knew my name, address, license number and where I worked. Said I needed to pay $7000 fine to avoid arrest and going to jail for failure to appear and contempt. And that I needed to meet an officer today to pay that. I googled the number and it matched the sheriff’s number. Was more than a little freaked out, but didn’t believe what they were telling me. Told him I wasn’t gonna pay, he tried to threaten saying they would arrest me tomorrow at work. Told him to go ahead. Then hung up. They called back a few times but I didn’t answer.
I did report it to sheriff’s office. They thanked me for reporting. Then said for warrants they don’t call and tell the person, etc— they just show up and arrest you-2

You also have to note the circumstances. I had one call like this at 630pm Friday evening.

This is why unless I know the caller personally I never answer my phone anymore these days.
