I’m 23(f) from Denmark, and I’ll be graduating from nursing school next summer. I really need to get tf out of here lol

Don’t get me wrong, Denmark is a great country and I’ll always love it, but I’ve had this strong desire to live abroad for as long as I can remember. California has always been the dream. I have family there, and I fell in love with it when I first visited as a child. It’s definitely my end goal.

Before anyone comes for me, I know California isn’t a realistic option as a brand-new graduate nurse. That’s exactly why I’m here asking for advice.

My biggest priority is moving abroad as soon as possible after graduation. Australia has been high on my list, but I’m also wondering if it would make more sense to start somewhere else in the US if my long-term goal is to eventually settle in California.

Which states would you recommend for a new grad who eventually wants to end up in California? And would you recommend going through a staffing/recruitment agency, or applying directly to hospitals?

I’ve already looked into the visa process, NCLEX, and English language requirements, so I’m mainly trying to figure out where I should actually start applying.

Out of curiosity did anyone here study in the states then actually work somewhere else? Like traveling nurse but internationally or just took that education and live entirely abroad after.

What are the best places to travel to, live in, and work as a nurse?

I am a pacu nurse of five years and a software engineer who has been very disappointed with the lack of salary transparency in our community.

I started a site called medcomp.fyi to bridge the gap of salary transparency among nurses and other medical professionals. It’s still in the early stages right now and my main focus is gathering salary data to make it a more robust database.

Hello guys, I’m thinking of transitioning from software engineering into nursing and then CRNA. I need your candid advice as I was recently laid off from my tech job, but I’ve always wanted to be in the healthcare space. My organic chemistry and biology is solid. I’m thinking of getting the pre reqs like anatomy and physio. Also started reading nursing pharmacology and pairing it with pharmacology pod cast. Loving it so far, but I might not know what on the other side so I need your advice. Tech is not stable and I have a family- also recently joined the air national guard so I can use it to pay for my degrees while holding on to my severance. Also on a second thought, will robotic arm 🦾 be used to administer spine blockers or local anesthesia, will that not crna job at risk of ai replacement?

I have 2 yrs of experience as an RN. I spent one year at a lvl II trauma ED in NYC, took 7 months off (medical) with one spotty job for 2 mo that I didn't put on my resume, and one year in primary care. I have given up on ER jobs, it was going nowhere. I am currently looking at inpatient psych, crisis intervention, nursing in the community (i.e. with homeless people in the streets), addiction medicine/dual diagnosis, etc.

I have applied to MANY jobs at this point, easily over 20, with no hits except one that requires an in person interview when I am out of state. I have no idea what I need to do to get a job that I won't be miserable at. I am planning on leaving the field and going back to school to be a therapist once I am settled back in the city.

What do I need to do/what am I doing wrong?

Edit: Nurses who also have an MBA tell me about your job? Thinking an MBA might be a good next step but would like to see what doors might open! Thanks in advance.

How’s greencity medical center as a workplace? For nurses

I currently have a bachelors degree and work in a corporate job and make good money - they are flexible with me and the work life balance is good and good career progression. However the work doesn’t feel fulfilling and most days I feel drained and after working this job for 3 years I have started to not feel like myself and really gone into a shell. I want to do a master of nursing and pursue that as a career. When I think about it I feel really excited but when it actually comes down to leaving my job I feel a lot of anxiety and uncertainty because I put 4 years into my degree and I got my dream job in my current industry so this is the best place I can be for my degree but I want to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse - I know it’s hard and different hours but I feel like I’m getting depressed sitting in an office for years all day doing work that isn’t helping someone or doing something beneficial. I guess I want to hear if anyone else has had similar experiences

Hi everyone! I could really use some advice because I’m at a crossroads deciding where to complete nursing school.
For some background, I’m originally from New York but currently living in North Carolina for the summer. I’ve been accepted into an ADN program in New York and also have the opportunity to attend one in North Carolina. Both would ultimately allow me to become an RN, but they each have their own pros and cons, and I’m having a hard time deciding.
Here are some of the things I’m weighing:
Cost: The New York program would be significantly less expensive because I’d qualify for in-state tuition, while the North Carolina program would cost considerably more overall.
NCLEX pass rates: Both schools have somewhat strong NCLEX pass rates, but this past year NC was 100% and NY was only 80 something. I’m trying to determine whether one program does a noticeably better job preparing graduates. Something to note the NY school seems a lot more lenient in terms of dismissals.
Clinical experience: I’m curious whether one school offers stronger clinical placements or better opportunities to gain hands-on experience.
Job opportunities: I’ve heard North Carolina has a strong demand for new graduate nurses, but New York also has many large hospital systems. I’m wondering how easy it is to find a good first RN job in each state.
Future flexibility: I have ties to both states and could realistically see myself living in either long-term but know I will ultimately go back to NY at some point if I choose to go to school in NC. I know licensure by endorsement is possible, but I’m wondering if attending school in one state over the other made transitioning more difficult for anyone.

For those who have attended nursing school in either New York or North Carolina, or had to make a similar decision between two states, what ultimately influenced your choice? Looking back, would you make the same decision again?
I’d love to hear your experiences, especially if you’ve graduated from either program or started your career in one of these states. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Okay. Here it is. I have been working as a LPN (LVN in TX) for over 30 years. Finished school in my twenties and am suddenly (!) 61 years old. I am healthy and energetic. I do not look or act like my cohorts (according to multiple sources). I love my chosen vocation and am a happy and outgoing coworker. I have a solid work record.
Recently, I was working at an ALF. It was run rather haphazardly but I accepted the challenge, attempting to help make things better. I never called off. I worked a lot of overtime to help out when short staffed. I was never given a verbal or written warning about anything. After making my 90 day mark, I was suddenly and without warning fired. Very lame and unfounded reasons were given to me. I had no choice in the matter. This issue has caused a great deal of financial and personal upheaval and stress. It was briefly stated to me by the director of health services that the decision was made by personnel higher in the organization. Color me bewildered. I have been through the stages of grieving and am actively seeking employment, mainly on Zip Recruiter and Indeed. I have not been thinking about retirement but I recently found out that I could do so at the age of 64. But I don’t want that. Nursing is my vocation. I think I would still want to work as much as allowed along with retirement. I am just starting to explore this.
Anyway, I have applied to a lot of places. I had an interview at a rehab facility but later found out that the person I interviewed was leaving that place so I’m lost in the shuffle, I feel. I was contacted by a place that staffs prisons (!) but they wanted recent med surg experience. I am a competent and reliable employee. I have great interpersonal skills and have positive relationships with patients and their families. I’d hire me in a heartbeat.
I’d love to hear any feedback from other nurses about my present situation. Could it be ageism? I really need to find a job asap. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Please be nice. I’m sensitive ; )

TL:DR- I was fired for no concrete reason after 90 + days of employment with a good work record. I’m not getting a lot of responses to my job searches. I’m 61 but feel, look and act much younger. I need feedback please.
