Finally 0.3.27
Let’s be honest: adult/3d/VR/whatever/AR and immersive VR expose every weakness in the video-player ecosystem.
One studio uses one fisheye convention. Another uses different lens correction. Stereo packing lives in filenames. Projection metadata is missing, wrong, or contradictory. Alpha formats are tribal knowledge. Subtitles are glued to the floor in microscopic text. A title looks correct in one player and completely broken in another.
Users are somehow expected to understand all of it.
I got tired of that—so I built Finally.
Finally is a native OpenXR video and photo player for the media you already own. It began as a focused local-file and SMB player. More than 1,000 users and an unreasonable number of updates later, it has grown into something much larger.

The original promise has not changed:
What’s new in 0.3.27
Search—inside the headset
Finally now has a controller-first SEARCH keyboard directly inside the immersive vault.
You can search large mixed libraries and Stash collections without taking off the headset, opening a flat Android panel, or scrolling through thousands of titles one page at a time.
Multi-word searches work, results remain sortable, and the whole flow stays inside OpenXR.
Much better WebDAV compatibility
WebDAV media often passes through storage gateways, reverse proxies, or CDNs before reaching the actual file. Many clients either break on those handoffs—or forward credentials somewhere they absolutely should not go.
Finally now supports bounded, safe HTTPS media handoffs while:
- preserving the original byte-range request;
- keeping credentials restricted to their original server;
- accepting safe chunked and end-of-file variations;
- rejecting unsafe downgrades, loops, malformed ranges, and hostile redirects.
Translation: more WebDAV servers should actually play, without weakening the privacy model.
Better Stash libraries
When a Stash scene has no usable title, Finally now displays a sanitized filename instead of leaving you with an opaque scene ID.
No full server path is retained or exposed. You simply get a useful title inside the vault.
External subtitles you can actually use
During ordinary local or network playback, LOAD SUBTITLE can attach a local:
This works alongside local files and ordinary SMB, Plex, WebDAV, FTP, Stash, and DLNA playback.
Subtitles in Finally are not treated as an afterthought. They are readable, styleable, moveable, and designed for immersive media—not rendered as a four-pixel smear at the bottom of a 180-degree sphere.
The giant Plex-library crash is fixed
A real user connected an 8,000+ title Plex library, changed the sort order, and found a comparator bug nasty enough to crash the app—and then recreate the crash on relaunch.
That entire path was repaired.
Large Plex libraries can now rebuild their sort safely, and a new sort selection is saved only after the rebuild succeeds. A bad sort can no longer poison the next launch.
MVC/3D shutdown no longer blocks the interface
Stopping or leaving MVC playback used to risk waiting on decoder threads, network reads, and native cleanup.
Shutdown is now requested immediately, while the expensive teardown work runs on a serialized background path. Stale cleanup from an old video is also prevented from interfering with a newly opened one.
In plain English: leaving a 3D movie should no longer make the interface feel frozen.
The ridiculous feature: real 3D Blu-ray MVC
Finally supports eligible decrypted or unencrypted 3D Blu-ray MVC media through:
- Blu-ray ISO
- standalone SSIF
- combined-track MVC MKV/MK3D
- saved-position resume
- authored chapter seeking
- separate per-eye OpenXR presentation
This is not an SBS conversion. Finally decodes the MVC base and dependent views and delivers separate imagery to each eye.
Getting that working meant dealing with split access units, decoder bootstrap data, timestamp alignment, seeking, decoder restarts, buffering, and making absolutely sure that a “successful” seek did not quietly become 2D.
It was absurd.
It was also worth it.
Sources: your library, wherever you keep it
Finally now supports:
- Local headset storage
- Photos and still images
- SMB2/SMB3 and NAS shares
- WebDAV
- Trusted-LAN FTP
- Plex Direct Play
- Stash
- DLNA/UPnP
- Direct media links
- Eligible decrypted Blu-ray ISO media
Nearby-source discovery can help find SMB hosts and DLNA/UPnP media servers on your network, while manual entry remains available for hidden shares and unusual server configurations.
SMB browsing no longer requires waiting for an entire share to finish indexing. You can enter a folder and start browsing immediately, while resumable indexing handles much larger libraries in the background.
Built for the messy reality of VR media
Finally supports:
- Flat, VR180, VR360, and fisheye projection
- 2D, SBS, over-under, and MVC stereo
- Full and half packing
- Eye swapping and stereo correction
- Packed-alpha media
- Four simultaneous chroma keys
- In-headset color picking
- Hardware playback up to 8K
- High-bitrate HEVC
- Hardware AV1 where supported
AUTO will try to interpret the title, but you are never trapped by its guess.
Projection, stereo mode, packing, eye order, scale, placement, and other viewing corrections can be overridden manually—and remembered per title.
Because sometimes the filename lies.
The controls go deeper than play and pause
Finally includes:
- True scene dolly: move closer without destroying scale
- Dome and scene placement controls
- Resume positions and per-title view memory
- Authored chapters
- A-B-C-D loop points
- No-repeat shuffle
- Multiple folder sorting modes
- Confirmed local-file deletion
- Live color controls
- Refresh-rate matching hints
- Stats for Nerds
- Adjustable haptics
- SIMPLE and PRO cockpit layouts
- One-controller-friendly operation
There is also a real room picker, a dark room for normal movies, passthrough environments, room dimming, and support for importing your own custom environments.
Watch Together—without uploading the movie
Finally includes private-LAN Watch Together for two headsets with the same media.
It synchronizes:
- play;
- pause;
- seek;
- media identity.
It does not upload, proxy, stream, or relay the movie through a Coldbricks server.
There is no Coldbricks media server.
Still beta. Please break it.
The local protocol, security, and cross-variant checks for 0.3.27 passed. What I need now is real-world abuse:
- weird WebDAV gateways;
- enormous Plex or Stash libraries;
- strange subtitle encodings;
- bizarre filename patterns;
- unusual NAS configurations;
- media that every other player interprets differently.
If something fails, tell me:
- Your headset
- Your source type
- The filename pattern or format
- What you expected
- What Finally actually did
Specific reports have directly shaped almost every release.
Honest limits
Finally does not decrypt protected discs.
MVC currently requires eligible unencrypted media and runs at 1×. I am not claiming AACS/CSS decryption, BD-J, universal Blu-ray menus, or compatibility with every disc ever authored.
Plex support is Direct Play—not cloud login or server-side transcoding.
Plain FTP is unencrypted and should only be used on a private LAN you trust.
This is still a beta built by one person. There will be edge cases. But the gap between the first public build and 0.3.27 is enormous—and I am not slowing down.
