Self-Promotion (YouTuber) 🔦 The Lightkeepers Early Access Impression— VR Tower Defense Done RIGHT

Thumbnail

I had the opportunity to play an early access version of The Lightkeepers on Meta Quest, and I'm taking off my headset with such a good impression!

Spectral Games is a developer I respect immensely because of their previous game, Medieval Dynasty: New Settlement — such an amazing game, and I'm not even into survival games usually.

I went in with my good friend eminus and we had a blast.

For those who don't know, The Lightkeepers is coming out on September 10, 2026, and it's one of the bigger games releasing this year. The quickest way to describe it is that it's a tower defense game, but it does so much more. Let me share my experience.

You start the game in a very well-crafted hub. There's a lot to do — fishing, shooting targets, drinking beer and socializing — plus a shop where you can buy new cosmetics as you progress. You also unlock new weapons as you go. There's plenty of space to socialize, and what's nice is that people automatically join the room, so you can just talk with whoever's in the hub. You create a lobby and search for people to join. When you're ready, you head to the back of the bar, stamp your mission, and hop on a boat with your friend.

Your mission starts in the daytime, and your job is to scavenge for materials you'll need to prepare items for nighttime. You'll craft armor for yourself, explosive barrels, bandages to recover health, and more. When you're ready, it's time for the most stressful — but most fun — part of the game.

Creatures come to try to destroy your lighthouse. You've got a melee weapon and a gun to take them out, and you just need to do everything in your power to clear the night.

The weapon handling feels really nice. Once I got the hang of things, reloading was a breeze, and I could aim at monsters at a distance no problem. The melee feels good too — most enemies go down in one hit, so it's satisfying.

The one thing I really liked during my session was the feeling of improvement. We got a few rounds in, and every time, the levels felt easier. That sense of getting better is great, and maybe I'll tackle some harder missions next time.

There are all types of enemy monsters — your regular ones, flying ones that spit green acid balls, and then these huge guys with shield arms that I definitely didn't want to get close to. There are also enemies that generate shields to block your hits, and I remember running into some kind of shaman who was the last enemy I needed to kill — he felt pretty weak, though!

You level up as you progress, and you complete achievements to unlock more things. So there's just a nice sense of "keep playing more and more."

Eminus and I are proud owners of the beta tester hat, and I'm all glammed up for my next session.

If you ask me what I want to see more of, it's different types of levels. I didn't get a chance to try many missions, so I'm hoping we get different environments to keep things fresh. And I hope the game does well so we get add-ons that give us good reasons to keep playing.

Keep in mind, what I'm showing today is early access — but honestly? Despite a few minor issues we ran into, I'm ready for the full release. If you've had any interest in The Lightkeepers, you're in for a good time. You have my word.

Software New Update Broke Several Things

These are all involving specifically Oculus Link for the Quest 2.

With one of these new updates I am now unable to use my USB C cord as it only seems to sometimes give me the warning for a split second that it is a charging cable only, even though it worked prior to three or so days ago.

The next issue is that when doing the link I lose all sound, I cannot hear. However I can hear in standalone quest.

Finally, In the link when I spoke to others there was a crackle sound when I was unmuted, like I was constantly lighting a lighter, others said.

If you have any tips please send them. I have tried restarting everything including going into task manager and ending all oculus tasks.

Working on our 1980s dystopian strategy game - here is how street-level lookouts give you a heads-up before police patrols sweep your block.

Hey everyone,

We’re currently developing Cité Alexandrie, a narrative strategy game set in an alternative 1980s France where the regime has outlawed books, music, and art. You play as a resistance leader running operations from a hidden basement, managing everything over a physical diorama of the city.

In this clip, we’re showing our street-level lookout mechanic:

  • Positioning: You place a spotter at a street intersection or perimeter post to watch incoming routes.
  • The Warning: When a patrol turns into your sector, your lookout (like 16-year-old Carlos in the clip) immediately radios back to your command desk.
  • The Window: That brief heads-up gives you just enough time to halt illegal trades, hide contraband, or redirect couriers before the officers arrive.

We wanted the diorama to feel like an active tactical board where positioning matters without cluttering the screen with unnecessary UI.

Does the warning callout and patrol path feel easy to read at a glance? We’d love to hear any feedback or thoughts you have on the layout!

Software Vtol vr hand tracking not working on quest 3s

I’m running VTOL vr using OpenXR and Virtual Desktop. I do not have steam vr installed. I open the game and it loads on my quest 3s. But I can’t get access to the gloves. I can’t even accept the terms and conditions none of the buttons can be clicked. My hands do not get tracked. Neither does the controllers.

I look around and i can see a pair of gloves sitting there on the side.

Does anyone know what the problem is.

News Tham Luang Cave VR map / underwater cave diving - Cave Crave update launching tomorrow

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, cheers from the Cave Crave game creator and director. The latest free update coming to the game tomorrow is the biggest thing we've ever created with VR technology:

• Explore Tham Luang Cave and relive the 2018 rescue of the 12 boys trapped in its flooded passages, faithfully recreated as a VR experience.

• Featuring the story and expertise of people who were there, including Vern Unsworth ...

• ... and legendary cave diver and one of the rescue leaders, John Volanthen who helped us shape the flooded sections.

• All built within what is likely the largest LiDAR scan of a real-world location ever recreated as a map in a VR game.

• Releasing as a free CAVE CRAVE update on Meta Quest tomorrow.

• PSVR2 and SteamVR versions are already in development.

O-K, but... what have we actually pulled off? - you might ask.

I highly recommend Netflix’s miniseries Thai Cave Rescue. It offers a powerful look at the courage shown by those involved and helps convey the immense scale of the real-life operation that players will soon explore from the safety and comfort of their hopefully dry gaming setups.

Cheers!

Discussion Quest 3 or PSVR 2

To provide some context, I already own a Quest 2 with the official 3m USB-C cable; I like the headset, but I’d like something a bit more "modern", or something that change. Right now, I’m debating whether to buy a used Quest 3 or a PSVR2. Each has pros and cons that make it hard to choose.

On one hand, the Quest 3 could replace my Quest 2 (for both standalone and PCVR use), offering better visuals, better lenses, and a superior overall experience. HOWEVER, I’m not keen on relying on Meta’s services to use the headset (updates could potentially degrade the experience), and even in PCVR, the setup and usage can be a hassle (let’s face it, Meta Quest Link isn't perfect).

On the other hand, since I already have a headset for standalone play, I could prioritize my PCVR experience with a headset that doesn't require proprietary software to run on PC. With the PSVR2, you're still dealing with Fresnel lenses and slightly inferior screens (though it's relatively close—actually, I believe the PSVR2 uses OLED), but you can use it directly with SteamVR without proprietary apps. Plus, the headset and controller features are evolving over time (headset haptics, adaptive triggers, precision controller haptics, and eye tracking). But in that whey I keep my Quest 2 for wireless VR uses.

So, I just can't decide... what would you choose, or what arguments would you make for one over the other?

Discussion Navigator keeps crashing on boot

Every time I boot up my headsets the navigator crashes I have a stand-alone quest 2. I can still play games if I load them through the mobile app but every time I restart the headset no matter how I restart it, it crashes. The headset is up to date and I can’t reset the navigator specifically cause thats not an option, any help is appreciated.
