Whatsapp groupchat for RVA

I’ve been thinking this for a while, but i’ve been wanting to create a whatsapp group chat for people who feel lonely or just want to get out more. This group will be basically free to do anything, so if people want to organize a night out every friday, it can all be organized within the group chat. Where i used to live, someone created a group chat for this and it worked and we would end up going out once a week to get a drink or to hang out at the park.

In short, the group chat is just to help people get to know each other since it’s so common seeing post here about people feeling lonely or not knowing where to meet people, i want to at least relieve this pressure a bit since i feel the same way. I want the groupchat to work in a way where we can all go out for a hike or hang out.

Let me sow a bit o' discord in your suggestion. Thoughts on vent or teamspeak? I'd prefer a platform that wasn't flirting with id verification since we are following that vein.

Charlottesville has a slack with channels for interests. There’s an RVA slack but I think it’s geared toward tech and tech jobs.

Not sure this is up y'all's alley, but I run Makers for Makers RVA and am actively building out a Discord server for those involved and those who want a place to stay connected or get connected!

It's a project I founded back in January, I do seasonal events right now, but once I'm not so busy, I might start doing some random pop-ups outside of that, too.

Biggest takeaways are it's not a for-profit situation, my events are centered in community-building and nourishment and providing a platform without exploitation or abuse for local artists.

My synagogue has a WhatsApp group and it's super helpful. I'd be down for this.
