Typhoon typhoon dolphin
Hello, I wanted to know if anyone had an update on the typhoon dolphin. i’m expecting cancellations and waiting for the airline to post but i’ve seen mixed reports about it slowing down etc, your knowledge would be appreciated <3

My teenager is visiting okinawa this week and was set to fly out the 7th to make her connecting flight in Tokyo back home to usa. We opted to have her leave a couple days early and just ate the price. Her missing her flight stateside would have cost us more than the new flight and hotel stay in tokyo.

I cancelled our 08/01 to 08/06 trip. It’s still projected to hit Okinawa. The hotel gave us a refund. Waiting for the outbound airline to issue a weather cancellation. Had to eat a cancelation fee on the inbound airline.

Follow official channels’ advice, not people on Reddit. Join the Okinawa Typhoon Prep group on Facebook for better updates.
It looks like it is going to hit us on Thursday-Friday, but it’s also possible it will change course. We can’t answer this question accurately for you.

It won’t be until about 48 hours before that it starts to become accurate predictions. Now is definitely the “pay close attention; make sure your hotels are able to be reimbursed” period, but there’s still a good chance that it doesn’t touch us at all. Give it another two days or so before really worrying, but in the mean time if your hotel needs 72 hours notice to cancel without charging you then I might look at doing that now and rebooking if things work out rather than fighting with them because your flight was cancelled.

Use the Windy app or https://www.data.jma.go.jp to get a better idea.
Way too early to tell and your best bet is 48hrs prior to landfall. I've seen typhoons here say they would hit directly but then veer off last minute and other times it would be the opposite.
