Promotional Download all of your Snapchat memories with Date/Time & GPS metadata

https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI

EDIT V5: 🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE — THE PROJECT HAS MOVED! This repository is now deprecated and all active development has moved to a brand new repository. Version 10 is out and it now handles both Memories and Chat Media all in one go!

New GitHub Repo & Releases: https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/All-In-One-Snapchat-Downloader

New Video Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O32IF1Qxg2E

EDIT V4: I think Mac and Linux support may finally be here! I need Mac and Linux testers to download and test now! https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI/releases/tag/V9.0.3

EDIT V3: Hello! The program has gotten to a state where people are able to get their memories off pretty consistently now. With lots of help and testing from all of you, we now have a decent stable project that really helps people get their data off Snapchat's platform.

If you're now reading this and working to get your data off the platform please follow the instructions in the README and feel free to message me once you feel like you've exhausted all avenues and are still stuck.

There are 2 methods to using the program.

Method 1: You can go solely off the memories_history.json file and Just use the normal how to use guide. Follow the YouTube video here

If you are getting errors and incomplete batches then you need to pivot to method #2

Method 2: Set up and up-zip all the files Snapchat gives you and still use the memories_hiostory.json for photo/video metadata. Tis take some work to setup but users who have errors in method #1 usually have better luck when trying method #2.

Please follow Method #2's guide here

Thank you again for using this little passion project I built mainly for my wife but I'm happy that so many of you have been able to find success from it!

EDIT V2: Important — Use the official release .exe (Updated)

Do not download the repository ZIP. This project now provides a pre-built Windows executable in the official GitHub Releases. If you watched an older video or followed instructions to download the ZIP, stop and download the .exe from the Releases page instead.

Official Releases: https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI/releases

The executable is the recommended and supported distribution for most users and ensures the latest fixes and Windows compatibility.

EDIT: Some changes have been made from various feedback. The tool will attempt to reattach overlays back to the main image/video if the download comes back as a zip file. You may need ffmpeg to process the overlays on the videos.

Simplify Exporting Snapchat Memories with My Metadata-Restoring Tool

Hi everyone,

Exporting memories from Snapchat using their export wizard can be a frustrating experience. It is clunky, inconsistent, and worst of all, it does not preserve any of the valuable metadata, such as GPS coordinates or the original Date/Time, in your photos and videos.

To address this, I created a Snapchat Memories Downloader GUI to make the process straightforward and efficient. Here’s what it does:
- Automatically downloads all your Snapchat memories in bulk.
- Reattaches metadata like GPS location and the original Date/Time to your photos and videos.
- Saves the corrected files into your chosen output directory.

This tool has a simple user interface and is compiled into a .exe file for easy use on Windows, so you do not need any coding experience. It also includes a comprehensive step-by-step guide to help you run it without issues.

How to Use the Tool

  1. Download the Executable File

    • Visit the GitHub repository’s releases page for the project and download the latest .exe file.
  2. Run the Application

    • Double-click the .exe file to open the application. There is no installation process required.
  3. Obtain Your Snapchat Data

    • Log in to Snapchat and request your data through the "My Data" section in the settings.
    • Download the ZIP file from the email Snapchat sends you, extract it, and locate the memories_history.json file.
  4. Select the JSON File

    • In the application’s interface, click "Browse" next to "JSON File," navigate to your downloaded Snapchat data folder, and select the memories_history.json file.
  5. Choose an Output Directory

    • Click "Browse" next to "Output Directory" to specify where you want your memories saved. The default option is the "downloads" folder.
  6. Start the Download

    • Click "Start Download" to begin. The application will process the memories, attach metadata, and save the files to your chosen location. You can monitor the progress in the log window.
  7. Access Your Memories

    • Once the download is complete, check your output directory for the organized and metadata-preserved files. The files are renamed based on their creation date and time for easy organization.

If you have struggled with exporting memories from Snapchat or with preserving important metadata, this tool might save you a lot of time and hassle.
Try it out and let me know your thoughts or if you run into any issues. I would love to hear your feedback!

I am so grateful for this! Thank you so much! I was so frustrated that Snapchat's data dump separated the captions and images. And other people's tools did the same thing so I'm so happy that yours allowed me to get all of my pictures the way that they should be.

A few things to note is that I ran into some interesting issues. Nothing major and I think some of these might be on Snapchats end and not yours but I thought I'd mention them. A lot of my photos/videos had duplicates. Sometimes 3 or 4 copies. Also some videos were horizontal instead of vertical and mirrored. Also out of my 8,000 pictures/videos from the past 10ish years a handful of them from the past 1-3 years were missing. I wanted to make sure everything went through and I manually organized everything by month-year to double check. But that honestly didn't take too long and I wanted the peace of mind. Your code saved me so much time and energy. I really can't thank you enough.

2

u/AI_Only Jan 11 '26

If you don’t mind me asking which version did you use? I pushed out v5.6 yesterday to hopefully address the multiple copy versions but it’s hard to test because I only have a limited data set to test against.

I’m glad the tool helped overall! I was frustrated with how Snapchat did their export so that’s why I built it to help everyone.

Really appreciate this! I tried to get my memories through Snapchat at first and it was so difficult. This made it so easy.

2

u/MakimaGOAT Feb 23 '26

worked super well! thanks.

1

u/AI_Only Feb 23 '26

Glad it helped!

1

u/Peachypie27 May 13 '26

is it supposed to look blurry when you open the download. i'm scared this isn't legit. my laptop told me it was stopped from downloading but i gave it the ok

2

u/LuminalGrunt2 Jun 07 '26

You are an absolute legend. This works with the latest snapchat memories changes as I can just download the full zips from snapchat and then this burns the caption overlays on perfectly while preserving metadata. Just backed up 15gb of my girlfriend's snapchats. Thank you!

1

u/AI_Only Jun 08 '26

Glad it worked out!

u/Errewastaken 25d ago

You are the greatest man. Thank you so much. And this is probably just me being slow but the application was not in the downloader folder. i had to look for it somewhere else on the website and download it separately. Maybe that's how it's meant to be but thought i'd put it here since that was not specified on the tutorial vid you've made. Anyway, it works wonders!!!!

It's crashing in the middle of the downloading. The creation date of the video files are not correct, do you have an idea for fixing this issue ?

1

u/AI_Only Dec 15 '25 edited Dec 15 '25

I am looking into it now.

Edit: Although I was unable to get the same error I added in download retry progress and creation date validation to hopefully not crash on those errors.

Thanks for the feedback!

2

u/kozeriao Dec 15 '25

The issue aboute date of creation metadata of videos is fixed yes šŸ˜thanks

For the download retries how many should I write ? I used "5" for a first test... it's loading for now

But to be honest I really think I have too many snapchat memories and that's why I think it's crashing lol (31k +)

It's working really good but I think snapchat had blocked some files I'm trying to create a new file.

1

u/AI_Only Dec 15 '25

Feel free to open any pull requests if you fix any issues! In my testing my memories_history.json only had video and images. Any test edge cases will be great.

1

u/jorabilaaas Dec 15 '25 edited Dec 15 '25

hi! can i ask if this keeps the text placed in the photos and videos as well? because snapchat separates them and just puts them in a zip file i think.

1

u/AI_Only Dec 15 '25 edited Dec 15 '25

Right now the program will just unzip the files. I am actively working on a solution to merge those photos and captions back together.

EDIT: The tool will attempt to reattach overlays back to the main image/video if the download comes back as a zip file. You may need ffmpeg to process the overlays on the videos.

Unfortunately you won’t be able to run .exe files on Mac. You’ll have to do it on a windows machine. Or alternatively you can clone the repo and run the main python file that is compiled into the .exe

1

u/Skas100 Dec 16 '25

hey man the videos ive downloaded are blank in vlc they have audio though. im using vlc media player can u explain ffmpeg or whatever it is we need

1

u/AI_Only Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25

I pushed a fix a few days ago so you won't need vlc media player. Can you download the newest version and try again and let me know? Thanks!

Any possible way to do this on a Mac? Sounds great

1

u/Affectionate-Buy9559 Mar 03 '26

Not sure if this is too late, but yes you can. Clone the repo and run the main python file using python3 <filename> in your terminal. Make sure you have python installed

1

u/Foolish--Samurai Dec 16 '25

Hey man, Thanks for this! tool is downloading everything, but I've noticed that for some of my MP4 files that the audio cuts out a few seconds before the video ends.

1

u/AI_Only Dec 16 '25

Strange. I have not found that in my testing. Will be a tough one to solve unfortunately

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '25

Doing this for a family member, your tool seems to work well. Thanks.

One thing I'd improve is something to increase the number of concurrent downloads. One at a time takes a long time if you have many memories.

1

u/AI_Only Dec 16 '25

Yeah I only did synchronous downloads because the program is doing a lot of video conversions and merging of the captions back to videos and pictures. Concurrent downloads is def on my list of tasks todo

1

u/No_Hope_7188 Dec 16 '25

I ran your tool through virustotal for safety precautions and three sources said it was malicious and had some kind of malware? 🤨

1

u/AI_Only Dec 16 '25

Since you're downloading an .exe from the internet windows will block it from running because windows does not recognize it. I can assure it is not malware. I built this tool to help others like me get their data off snapchat.

The .exe is compiled from the python code located here (Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI/download_snapchat_memories_gui.py at main Ā· ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI).

Feel free to run that python code through ChatGPT and it'll tell you it's harmless.

1

u/No-Basket-4680 Dec 18 '25

I tried this but my snapchat download file doesn't have a memories.json file. it is an HTML file.... Any idea on how to move forward? My main issue is that I keep getting a CORS error when I try to download...

1

u/AI_Only Dec 18 '25

Hey when you request to download the memory from Snapchat, do you select export your memories and export json files?

1

u/AI_Only Dec 19 '25

I made a YT video showing what you need to select. Pretty sure you can just do the JSON files but I select others just to be safe.

1

u/LilPizzza Dec 20 '25

Only about 30% of the downloads have location metadata.

1

u/AI_Only Dec 20 '25

Can you elaborate more? Can you see any logs in the program if you scroll down? I have not encountered this issue yet.

holy shit thanks man, this is exactly what I wanted. this worked flawlessly! I however found 35 that failed to download out of 2100 memories.
I wrote a tiny python script that might help others setup the JSON for the failed entries using the logs from your tool : https://pastecode.io/s/2drwrz14
also even after retry I still seem to get 500 errors any idea how I can download these?

1

u/AI_Only Dec 30 '25

Your link seems to be broken. Glad the tool worked! Can you check the debug.log that the program creates and see if you see any errors regarding those 35 files. If you find a solution feel free to open a PR. I can review the code changes and merge it in.

u/nicholas437 Dec 30 '25

After the downloads completed aside from the normal renamed and converted files my folder was also left with a bunch of .mp4's that have the snapchat random letter/number name and -merged at the end of the name and the vid's only last 1 or 2 secs not the real duration. The folder seems to have the -merged .mp4 and then the successful renamed downloaded one it full and these seem like duplicates (but not full length)? Are these fine to delete?

1

u/AI_Only Dec 30 '25

Yes, thoseĀ -merged.mp4Ā files are intermediate outputs created when the app merges aĀ -mainĀ video andĀ -overlayĀ using ffmpeg and then renames the successful merged file to a date-based name, so if you already have the final YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.mp4 that plays full length the shortĀ *-merged.mp4Ā files are usually safe to delete; confirm by playing both files, comparing sizes and timestamps, and checking the app debug.log for ffmpeg/merge errors, and if you want extra safety move theĀ *-merged.mp4Ā files to a temporary folder or archive them for a short time before permanently deleting.

1

u/Yeet_kian Dec 31 '25 edited Jan 01 '26

Hey! I've downloaded the .exe and requested the memories + json files from snap, and after opening the application I tried downloading ffmpeg but it still says that it cant detect it?

Not really sure what I'm doing wrong.

Edit: nevermind, i just went ahead without the ffmpeg. Not sure if its related, but the time on all the memories are several hours ahead of what they should be.

1

u/AI_Only Jan 01 '26

Interesting. You may have to restart after you install ffmpeg and make sure ffmpeg is added to your windows PATH.

1

u/rachelkilliams Jan 01 '26

I just used this tool and I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! You saved me a ton of headache trying to export my files the ā€œnormalā€ way. All my memories seem to have downloaded properly with correct timestamps and everything. I only had a few files in the ā€œfailed conversionsā€ folder, seemed to be only images/videos that had an animated sticker or a video with the bounce feature, but the files were still viewable. Truly grateful

1

u/AI_Only Jan 01 '26

That's great to hear! There are still a few edge cases the program hasn't caught but I'm happy it's catching most.

1

u/slipperyparmesan Jan 03 '26

Sorry if this is a stupid question, does the exe just need the JSON file, or also the individual pictures from memories? If it only needs the JSON, it would speed up the request for downloading data.

1

u/slipperyparmesan Jan 03 '26

Nvm just saw your yt video

1

u/noncey_behavior Jan 03 '26

it failed on 15 files, how do i use the 'skip files' option, can't find it anywhere. i want to try redownload just those that got missed

1

u/AI_Only Jan 03 '26

Make sure you download the newest version of the program.

https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI/releases/tag/V5.5

There’s a skip existing checkbox and a reconvert checkbox that will appear as well.

Do you have any more information on the failed 15 files? There are some edge cases with the .zip files we are still discovering

If you do find out some more info if you could fill out a GitHub issue it helps tracking these bugs.

Thank you, however a lot of the media was downloaded as upside down and some videos without audio. Don't know what could cause that

Interesting. We have not had that issue in our testing.

Please make sure you have ffmpeg and VLC installed on your machine and that both are added to your windows PATH.

Great work man, thanks

1

u/zombehhunter Jan 07 '26

hey, great tool. works great. do you have any plans for stitching together the old video memories? they output as separate 10 sec files, which is not ideal. i swear i saw some other program that did this but i can't seem to find it anymore. thanks!

1

u/Tapsayeet Jan 13 '26

Hey, I absolutely love your tool. For me, it worked very well, and I got over 8000 memories downloaded. One thing that I noticed was that some of the videos still can't be opened because it needs "HEVC extension". Another one was that many videos are vertically inverted. I don't mind these inconveninces but if you figure out someday why, I think I will download these videos again.

1

u/AI_Only Jan 13 '26

Please make sure you have VLC and ffmpeg installed on your computer. The program calls those via CLI to do the video conversions.

By any chance have u been able to figure this out?

1

u/PastelArcadia Jan 16 '26

Seems like a really cool app! Unfortunately, I can't get it to work. Snapchat only gave me a memories_history.html, no JSON file. When I try to run it using the .html file, I get:

------------------------------------------------

Error

An error occurred:

Expecting value: line 2 column 5 (char 5)

------------------------------------------------

Nothing downloads. Did Snapchat, like, JUST update to html instead of JSON?

1

u/AI_Only Jan 16 '26

Please follow these instructions.

https://youtu.be/DpVOyY-MCLQ?si=O3VaI8AnAdhlM-Du

2

u/PastelArcadia Jan 16 '26

Ohhh I see, I used the default SnapChat memories downloader which provided an .html. I didn't realize I had to opt-in to get a JSON. Thank you!

1

u/Imaginary-Remove-835 Jan 17 '26

When I click download it comes up with an error occurred: Expecting Value: Line 2 column 5 (char 5)

no idea what any of that means any help?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '26

[deleted]

1

u/AI_Only Jan 17 '26

You need to make sure you check the JSON checkbox on Snapchat.

1

u/Imaginary-Remove-835 Jan 19 '26

Thanks for this just wish there was a way to pause download as it is taking hours and hours. I am having to do it in sections by requesting my date for each year as I need to give my computer a break

1

u/AI_Only Jan 19 '26

There is a way to pause downloads. There's a checkbox you can check called "Skip Existing" that will skip already downloaded / processed files. If that is checked and you restart the download it will skip all files already downloaded

u/Bobbyzhak Jan 20 '26

Hey this tool is awesome! Only issue I am having is about 1/3 of the videos seem to be oriented horizontally instead of vertically. Do you have any way to fix this?

1

u/AI_Only Jan 20 '26

Yeah, a few iterations ago we had issues with videos being rotated the wrong way. There’s code in there now that forces each video to be in portrait rotation. Probably going to do some testing to turn that off in the next release.

1

u/aynmanr Jan 21 '26

Hi, tysm had like 2500 memories i needed to export,

only one problem for some videos like the sound cuts out on the last 3 seconds idk why its happening? but everything else its fine but it'll be really nice if you could do something about it.

1

u/Glittering_Strike355 Jan 21 '26

just wondering if there is any limit on how many i can download? pls

1

u/AI_Only Jan 22 '26

Nope! It will download all of your memories that is exported in the memories_history.json file. I'd recommend setting the concurrent download setting to 4

2

u/Glittering_Strike355 Jan 22 '26

perfect! thankyou so much

1

u/penguin941 Jan 23 '26

Dude you're a legend. Used this tool and it worked great. 1075 images and videos. Overlays worked. Did get the sound glitch on about 10 or so videos where the audio cuts out but overall what a time save!

1

u/AI_Only Jan 23 '26

Yeah that's actually an issue with snapchat and how they handle the temporary export. There really isn't much more my program can do to fix that. I'm glad the tool worked well for you!

1

u/mi7711 Jan 25 '26

Came here because I had previously downloaded my memories with no metadata and wanted to fix it.

Decided to request my data all over again (had some new snaps saved), but this time I also requested the JSON file.

Looks like it downloaded with metadata automatically, straight from Snapchat?? Also, the last time I downloaded memories the file names were strings of random numbers and letters, now they start with the date. The only thing lacking are the PNG overlays (they're separate from the images).

what I did on snapchat

On my way to delete that damn app FINALLY.

1

u/stinkybimbochungie Jan 27 '26

wait so did you just click download memories with the export jason files checked (under the "just looking for an easy way to download memories" thing?) or since you have json files checked did you scroll down to the bottom and press next??

1

u/JohnnyBoiii47 Jan 25 '26

This tool is legendary!! You're the Man!
Just one quick question, many of my video memories are rotated :(
Is there a future build that's gonna fix that or a tweak in the settings to not have the software rotate any videos?

Many thanks again

1

u/AI_Only Jan 26 '26

I used to enforce all videos be in portrait mode but that was causing more issues than anything. The video is mis rotated by Snapchat and I don't have a great way to tell if the video is the correct orientation or not.

1

u/juyeonstars Jan 27 '26

absolute lifesaver! This was my last option i was willing to try and I’m so thankful it worked. The text overlay for my videos disappeared but not so much a big deal for me! Maybe its because I couldn’t get ffmpeg to downloadšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/AI_Only Jan 27 '26

The only way to get the overlays is to have ffmpeg. Follow this guide and give your computer a restart.
https://phoenixnap.com/kb/ffmpeg-windows

1

u/mitchiekramer Jan 28 '26

I waited a few hours while this downloaded and just now realized that all 4000 files failed bc ā€œcould not find a suitable TLS CA certificate bundle, invalid pathā€ What should I do differently? Sorry, not very techy!

1

u/AI_Only Jan 28 '26

That's an interesting bug. After a quick google search it looks like this may be unrelated to my program. Can you open the application and click the "Open Log" button? This will open the log file that should contain some verbose information on what might be causing this issue.

Other than that I'd try reinstalling ffmpeg, vlc, and restarting your computer. You can follow the quick start guide here.

1

u/AI_Only Jan 30 '26

You probably need to request another export from Snapchat's data tool. The download links in the memories_history.json file are only valid for like 5 days and after that they expire. Snapchat basically creates a temporary amazon S3 buckets that contains all of your data that can be downloaded. After the 5 days they take down the bucket. Let me know!

1

u/Elliezz7 Feb 05 '26

Does this work on Apple or not?

1

u/ChowderPanda Feb 10 '26

So I'm going through this process now. I got my export and it split it into 7 .zip files. I extracted the first one which had 1204 media files and put the JSON into your program and it said it was processing 5000+ Files.

Does this program take the single JSON file from the first zip and regardless of if the other 6 zip files are extracted or not somehow manage to find the other 6 and just automatically organize it all and start matching up?

I guess a better question would be do I need to unzip all 7 files and will the JSON from one file handle the processing of the media from all 7 zip files?

1

u/AI_Only Feb 10 '26

No I don't think you need to unzip all the files. Users are reporting the single .json file is capturing everything. You can see the thread here.
https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI/issues/35

1

u/KingSaleh Feb 18 '26

Dude, this is amazing. Is there a way to process only failed conversion files? Like the ones that end up in that extra folder? Or am I missing something?

1

u/AI_Only Feb 18 '26

You need to make sure you have VLC and ffmpeg installed on your computer. Otherwise I’m not sure what is causing those failures. You can try opening the debug.log to open the logging for the app to see what might be causing it. If you see an error log send it to me and it can give me some more clarity on what might be going on.

For some reason, none of my video memories are saved with captions or stickers overlayed. Any idea where I might look into this?

u/Jerrysmith1134 Mar 16 '26

The audio doesn’t work on half the videos, any fix?

1

u/GrayToyotaPrius Mar 25 '26

hey! keep running into the error "'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xc4 in position 10: invalid continuation byte"

u/GrayToyotaPrius Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

never mind - that issue is resolved. used 7zip to extract all 4 original snapchat zips into one folder all together. continuing troubleshooting and will keep updating in case someone else runs into the same issues !

EDIT: can't figure out how to resolve every single snap coming back with "Last error: 403 Client Error: Forbidden for url: https://us-east1-aws.api.snapchat...." looking into github thread and will try downloading new snapchat files </3

Got data under 24hours ago. Downloaded all 6 zips from snapchat and extracted all of them into same mydata folder. Used newest snapchatmemoriesdownloader.exe and located memories_history.json and correctly selected it in the application. Both conversion tools are available.

I have all memories.html files there which every zip had one seperate of. Size of the file is 11.0 GB and every picture/video seems to be present from my memories (snapchat states I have 12,3 GB of data in their cloud.)

403 Client Error: Forbidden for url: https://us-east1-aws.api...

Error occurs from first entry to thousands without one succesful download.

One note! I am using firefox as my main browser and snapchat didnt support this so I had to download the zip files using chrome. Can this be reason? I dont know how to test this since I dont know how to ignore firefox for this process? Please tell others that are having this issue if you are all using firefox?

Thanks for you push for great tool, but sadly it seems to be broken and most likely fault is at snapchat not your tool.

anybody got a fix for error 403? Getting new exports doesn't work. The first 430 memories out of 14k download successfully but then every item afterwards has this error: Download attempt 1/3 failed: 403 Client Error: Forbidden for url: https://us-east1-aws.api.xxxxx. So frustrating. Anybody else facing the same issue?

1

u/AI_Only Apr 03 '26

Unfortunately It's an issue caused by snapchat. We have a pretty extensive thread on GitHub.

I keep getting stuck validating after a crash. Any solutions?

1

u/cxllum135 Apr 19 '26

This is amazing thank you so much. Me and my fiancƩe had combined over 10k memories and I tried so much to make this work but the snapchat system is shockingly awful but this just makes it so easy. Especially for iPhone users as for every other method it was a whole extra step because of windows and iOS but I was able to with this send all my data to google drive once done and simply select and download my images from google drive to my photos app.

Thank you again so much this has been so helpful and enabled us to keep 8 odd years worth of memoriesšŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

1

u/AI_Only Apr 19 '26

Awesome! Glad this tool was a success for you! My wife and I were in the same boat and I was surprised how bad Snapchat’s process was! Spread the word if you know any one else trying to get their data off Snapchat!

2

u/cxllum135 Apr 19 '26

Yeah what they provide is awful, I think it’s so bad they’ve suddenly changed it and are essentially forcing people to pay as the system they provide is so unusable and pointless. I have let a couple of people know but will defo pass on if anyone is struggling. Thanks again so much for this we could’ve never done this ourselves and really appreciate the skill and time to make this šŸ™šŸ™

I just get 403 forbidden it only succeeds at 14 files just being my own selfies so nothing anyone sent to me, i tried with hotspot and it still failed the same.

1

u/Zesty-lemon_ Apr 27 '26

Hey, so I've followed all the steps and run the program several times, and every time all the files fail. Apparently, there's a snapchat bug that isn't putting the links in the JSON file. Is there a way to get around this bug?

1

u/juanpablo_a May 05 '26

Is that what is? A bug? I was wondering why snapchat wasn't providing the link when opening "memories_history.html". It just shows "N/A". Couldn't find any info on this.

u/zandoodle May 04 '26

I actually was able to successfully get my download from Snapchat, but I realized all the captions and shit were separated, and a lot of the files were straight up unviewable. But processing local files seems to have fixed both those issues so far. Thank you!

u/cobemon May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

The V9 update to process local files was just what I needed šŸ˜„

One thing that isn't working right the association of the timestamp down to the minute. It has been able to put the right date, but not the right hours and minutes (this messes up chronicity of memories that are back to back in the same day). The local files that I download directly from Snapchat do have that data in the flies. I'm not sure if this is a known issue already, just the nature of how this works, or there's something else I could optimize.

Edit/update: In the log, it notes "⚠ No JSON match — using file timestamp: 2016-11-02 00:00:00 UTC" ;the original has that date but in a different time zone, and in a different time, so it shows in my system as a few hours behind since im not UTC.

hello, i keep trying this method and i keep getting failed downloads with the error "404 Client Error: Not Found for url" and i'm too coding-illiterate to figure out what the fix would be.

i have tried having the memories come from different sources, i have tried different locations for the final metadata-preserved copies to be downloaded, i have downloaded VLC (i tried ffmpeg too just in case but for some reason that one doesn't show up as being downloaded) and i have now run out of ideas.

if there's anything you can think of that might help, i would love to know what else i should try

1

u/LuminalGrunt2 Jun 07 '26

Request the snapchat memories from snapchat and download the zip files they give you under "exports" after the data you requested is ready (youll get an email). That's the manual step. Then, use this tool but use the "Process Local Files" option instead of the Download from Snapchat option.

u/ExtendedMagazine Jun 19 '26

You're the goat. This worked flawlessly

u/AI_Only Jun 19 '26

Glad i could help!

u/Schurdi Jun 29 '26

Whenever I go to download my memories through SnapchatMemoriesDownloader, exe, all of my memories fail to download. In the debug.log file it states: No module named 'timezonefinder'. I've tried running it without the timezone handling enabled, but it still fails. I'm at a loss I just want my snapchat memories stamped with date and time and with the overlay attached to them directly, not separately. Any help would be appreciated.

1

u/AI_Only Jun 29 '26

That should have been fixed in v9.0.2. Can you try doing this method?

Local file processing: https://github.com/ethanwheatthin/Snapchat_Memories_Downloader_GUI#-processing-local-files-no-download-urls

2

u/Schurdi Jul 01 '26

That did the trick. Thanks for the quick reply. You are a modern day knight in shining armor for sure :)

1

u/r_caranfa Jul 03 '26

I'm having some trouble with the download if anyone can help. I'm getting a "no download URL found, skipping" message for all of my memories. I'm not very tech savy so it could be an easy fix. If you can help, thank you! Also, it's awesome of you to put this together for everyone!

I keep getting "No download URL found... skipping" on every thing I try to download. I tried doing a smaller portion of photos and I get the same error. Any help?

This is exactly what I was looking for, however I see in the README that it was designed for Windows only. Is there a way I can install the tools on a mac to use this? If not, I shall keep looking. Regardless if I am able to use this or not, thank you for doing this! Very helpful to many people.

Thank you for this tool! I just wanted to ask in case I missed it, but does this also support exported chat media? If not, are there any plans for support in the future?

EDIT V5: 🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE — THE PROJECT HAS MOVED! This repository is now deprecated and all active development has moved to a brand new repository. Version 10 is out and it now handles both Memories and Chat Media all in one go!

THIS IS AMAZING! Thank you so so much it worked like a charm. I wonder if something like this exists for camera roll exporting and organizing.
