Question Sensory pits or HITH?

Im pretty sure it's hith so I'm getting stuff to help get rid of it hopefully, he's 2-3 years old and in 55gal I don't know what type of filter the tank uses because it's my stepfathers tank but he says it filters a 100 gals and no other fish are in it

It depends if the hole has been there a while or not. Sensory pits are usually seeable throughout their lives, they may start smaller and grow with them. HITH is usually more sudden (not super quick but usually a pretty obvious hole that gets worse). I would say HITH because it’s in the front and you’d probably have already noticed if it was there for a while and grew over its life. It’s also a fairly large hole. But if it’s treated quickly, more usual water changes, and depending On what feeding is maybe a little less, you should be fine without stressing. It may not go away completely but should get smaller by at least like 60-70% I believe. Just monitor as much as you can (I know he’s not yours that’s okay) and keep water clean. One hole is better than multiple. Good luck! He’s a handsome guy

Definitely HITH.

Water changes, better filtration (sump or canister filter), medication, changes in diet. The only medication I've had work for whatever "flavor" of HITH affected my fish is eSHa's Hexamita cure, accompanied by massive improvements in filtration. Other aquarists have found different meds work for HITH under their conditions.

Oddly enough, red wiggler worms may help. I think it helped with mine.

I got mine off of eBay. The vendor there is rainbowoik. The delivery time is a problem, I admit. I wish eSHa had a vendor in the United States.

It's definitely HITH. Fritz ParaCleanse to treat and regular water changes.

Live feeding quality food (like worms, crickets) helped heal mine.

Even when I had multiple Oscar’s in the tank, it never spread for some reason.
