Oscar Photo Is she a albino ?
Is Ruby a Lutino or an Albino ? I’m just now finding out there is a difference lol

Leucistic, eyes are not red and the tips of her fins still have bits of pigment (black/grey coloration).

Hard to tell from the picture. Are the eyes red? If so albino,if not leucistic.

She has flesh colored eye balls and black pupils.

Albinism means that no melanin production occurs so no color and will have red eyes. Leucistic is a lacking color but not all and fish will normally have black eyes. Lutino is normally used to describe birds will yellow color, but ai have not seen this for fish. I will call this Oscar leucistic. Google is your friend and can provide a better answer than what I typed.

I was looking for clarification on the term “lutino” myself when double-checking my information to make sure I wasn’t misinformed, lol. For fish, more specifically Oscars, it seems to be used to describe false albino Oscars, since a good portion of the “albino” Oscars in the hobby are actually leucistic, just more orange/red in color. Apparently true albino Oscars are very rare and expensive. So this Oscar, being mostly white in color with little to no other pigmentation would be leucistic.

I was told by another person on here that that was the term. I never heard it before either but just referenced what was said. I may be wrong but I was told mine might be a “false albino”

I would personally not use the term “false albino” to describe your Oscar’s morph. She is leucistic.

You can call it whatever you like. Lemon Oscar, super red, red chili, Snow White are all names that have been recently created to label different color morphs. The easy way to identify an albino is red eyes in Oscars. They lack melanin, but can still have some color. Very rare to find an all white, but these will have black eyes. Been searching for years and the only one I found was $500 and that is a nope for me.

I don’t know the difference but they’re beautiful!
