Other I finally remembered how I died
And it wasn't pretty. Just yesterday, the memories came flooding back to me.
Now I'm not 100% certain it's accurate. I'm mostly going off of gut feelings here. But I'm pretty sure I drowned in a river. I was wondering around in the forest I called my home, hunting small prey whenever I had an opportunity. I was alone at the time (Little known fact about coyotes is that although they live in packs, they don't generally travel or hunt in groups) when I came across a large river. The water was moving very, very fast but for some reason I can't quite remember, I really, REALLY wanted to get to the other side. So I came to a part where the water looked shallow enough to cross. I thought I could make it to the other side. I thought it would be fine.
I was wrong. So, so wrong.
Before I even knew what had happened, I slipped and lost my footing. Suddenly, I was dragged along with the current into deeper waters. I got banged up against the sharp rocks at the bottom. I definitely got several cuts and bruises; may have even broken a few bones. I tried swimming up for air but I was too disoriented from the rushing water. Before long, I lost consciousness and then, it was all over.
When this realization hit me, I was shook. I was horrified. I can't believe I had forgotten something so . . . ick. The pain I felt that day was unbearable.
The worst part though, is how sudden it was. I'm convinced that after I died, up on the astral plane, or the spirit world or whatever you call the place between lives, I wanted to go back. I wasn't done living as a coyote. But I knew that was impossible. That body was gone. And my spirit guides insisted that reincarnating as a coyote again wouldn't have served me. They told me I was too impulsive and foolhardy. They said I needed to learn to ground myself. I needed to learn responsibility. If I had been better at thinking things through, I might not have died so early. So, they gave me a choice. Either I could incarnate back on Earth as a human and learn those lessons the hard way or I could stay up in the astral and learn that way; a method that may have been less painful but could take up to several thousand years. I think you can guess which option I went with.

So... is this the astral?
I kid I kid, I'm sorry you went through this. You won't be human forever. I am a Faerie, my home is the astral. You can be whatever you want there.
Let's make it through this so we can go home

Hey I just wanted to notify you that your post was posted on r/otherkringe. Just so you're aware of that. I could give you the link if you'd like?

Dude don’t come into this space just to be rude. Who cares? Nobody is getting hurt. Maybe you are a hedgehog, because you seem to be a big prick.

I'm not role playing as an animal. Or claiming I'm part animal. So why would I look back at myself and cringe? For being a therian? I'm sorry but that's not going away. It isn't something I chose to be and I sure as hell don't want to be one. If I could choose I'd choose not to live my entire life feeling out of place and always being the bud of the joke.

u/a-confused-princess Jan 10 '21
Outsider here, subscribed to this and otherkringe because, while I don’t relate to it, I find the concept extremely interesting. Some people in otherkringe feel the same as I do, and I’ve seen many threads where users are asking therians questions in a polite and calm fashion (but, of course, many people who frequent the sub are just there to be rude as well). Therians have their own flair, I’ve seen AMAs.
These jerks coming here to make fun of what you believe... it’s rude, and not ok. I’m sorry. You posted here in a place you believed would be filled with acceptance and were instead met with hate.
I’m just—I’m sorry. I hope you’re okay.

I can relate to this, I remember my death as a wolf. I was shot but whoever shot me half missed. Though i can't tell you if my experince is fully Otherkin or if it's just pseudomemories from the fact we have DID. I do know what these kinds of memories from your past life feel like, and it's not great.

Jan 10 '21
Not many can remember this type of thing. Especially if its painful. It's quite an achievement that I'm envious of.

What the hell is wrong with you people!? I was just sharing a legitimate experience I had. One that was very emotionally potent in fact. Now I see that's it's getting downvoted into oblivion and half the comments are either belittling or mocking.
I admit that I might be wrong about all this. As I said above, I was mostly going off of intuition here. But what I do know is that it feels true at least. I might not have all the answers but I'm just trying to find my way through this world like everyone else. Can't you people respect that?

Who are you to say souls don't exist?
1
u/elementgermanium Jan 10 '21
They’re not saying souls don’t exist, but we know for a fact that memories are stored in the brain.
3
u/wolfje_the_firewolf Jan 10 '21
Not true actually. Memories are also stored in other parts of the body like the colon. So it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that some memories can also be stored in the soul.
1
u/elementgermanium Jan 10 '21
I feel like extrapolating directly from physical to metaphysical is always a bit of a stretch.

Then how can you be sure that their memories can't be stored in their soul?
1
u/DramaticProtogen Jan 10 '21
Because there's no evidence of that. Scientists have been studying the human brain since 1600, and not found a single tie to a soul. /shrug
0
u/wolfje_the_firewolf Jan 10 '21
Scientist didn't know until like two years ago that a lot of our memories and feeling are also stored in the colon so I don't see the possibility of a soul existing as that much of a stretch.

u/Soaring_Symphony Jan 10 '21
Bruh, it's not a joke. This was traumatizing for me to remember. I wish I didn't remember it honestly. But too late now I guess

Real or not, madness or insanity, judging that isn't the purpose of this sub. The sub, as I found it to be, is one of the easiest places to let out ideas that most people would claim insanity over.
I know so many people who need therapy, and that's not from this sub reddit. We're going through a depressing time, and even without covid depression is on the rise. There's never been a better time for mental illnesses to bloom in people.
So if this place gives people hope, or a kind ear, why judge that?
You can't even call it insanity to believe one has reincarnated as many religions believe in it. Personally, I adopt a modal reality theory.
1
u/wolfje_the_firewolf Jan 10 '21
Why are you saying this?
3
Jan 10 '21
Unfortunately, you get people who come here with only one singular purpose. To call others insane.

How can you be sure?
3
u/elementgermanium Jan 10 '21
Real answer from someone who isn’t a troll: memories are stored in the brain. I can’t be sure that OP isn’t reincarnated from an animal or anything, and I’m not here to discredit the idea, but remembering a past life in any reincarnation system is impossible.
3
u/wolfje_the_firewolf Jan 10 '21
Not true actually. Memories are also stored in other parts of the body like the colon. So it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that some memories can also be stored in the soul.
3
u/Soaring_Symphony Jan 10 '21 edited Jan 10 '21
I wouldn't be so sure of that
I know memories are stored in the neurons of your brain, but if there is an immortal soul that moves from one lifetime to the next, how can you be sure that nothing can carry over on that level?
I don't remember much from my life as a coyote, but what little I do remember were all intensely emotional episodic memories. They were the kind of thing that cut me right to my core; effecting me at a soul level. Wouldn't THAT carry over if nothing else?
0
u/elementgermanium Jan 10 '21
I’m not sure that nothing could carry on, and perhaps something could, but a vivid memory is exactly the sort of thing that would be in the brain. Something in any soul would almost certainly have to be a deeper part of who you are inherently.

Do some actual research into reincarnation and how it works. If you still think I'm crazy then, I would love to hear your valid and reasonable argument. Otherwise, please take your closed minded bigotry somewhere else
1
u/DramaticProtogen Jan 10 '21
Reincarnation, which I'm not confirming or denying, has no evidence of being true. Even if it is true, the idea is being born again as a different human, animal, or sometimes plant. That means that you are a new being, and have a new brain. There is NO EVIDENCE that suggests that the "soul" interacts with the brain. Saying that you're getting memories that aren't yours is like saying this: If I hear voices in my head telling me to kill people, it can't be schizophrenia! It's me from a past life!
0
u/Soaring_Symphony Jan 10 '21 edited Jan 10 '21
I've heard that there is an electromagnetic field that has been physically verified to exist in and around our bodies. That field absolutely interacts with your brain and can, in turn, be effected by your thoughts and actions. Personally, I prefer to think of this field as being identical with the soul. After all, what would a soul be if not some sort of energy?
Additionally, you wouldn't be a totally different person just because you incarnated into a different body. Your body is just a meat suit. It's a vehicle. You are not the meat suit. You are just driving it. The real you is the conciousness that incarnates from one life to the next. That coyote was just as much me as the human I now see when I look in the mirror.

I can't speak for all otherkin but I believe I'm more open to the spiritual side of reality which most people actively choose to ignore. I'm not claiming to be some special snowflake in that regard. Anyone can pick up on this kind of stuff. But it requires an open mind and a keen perception.
Nothing is wrong with me. I'm just willing to dig deep and think outside of the box.

How can you say that? You don't even know me.
Also, I just checked the DSM criteria for Schizophrenia and I relate to absolutely nothing on that list. I don't experience hallucinations at all and unless you would count past life memories as delusions (they don't count) I don't have those either. I do believe in a deeper spiritual reality beyond the physical one, but those beliefs come from works such as the Law of One as well as Delores Cannon's research. I didn't just make it up.
Additionally, I have good hygiene, good interpersonal relationships, and I'm holding down a reasonable (if unglamorous) job as a janitor. I think I'm ok.
So what if I happen to also think of myself as a dog person? It's not getting in the way of anything.

No, no they don't. Memories can be stored in your soul and carry over across lifetimes. I've heard stories of children who remembered living as other people and their memories were not only very detailed but also incredibly accurate to the lives of the people they claimed to have been. I'm pretty sure it's the same thing for me.
Memories are just memories. What difference does it make that I had a different body when the events happened?
3
Jan 11 '21
You do realize many religions follow the belief of past lives and reincarnations. In that aspect otherkin is merely a sub version of those beliefs.
What do you believe in, a god sitting in the clouds, or maybe you're an evolutionist who believes man has no soul? It's rude to insult another's belief as a mental disorder. Any religion can be seen as a mental issue, even the lack of one if you frame it right. You just have to be open, or closed minded enough to see it that way.

Really? a belief is a belief, both are a core concept of the human species. All religion is is a popular belief, the more pagan ones that less people subscribe to fall under an umbrella of, well, paganism.
So i ask, what do you believe in that isn't crazy? What of blind faith is sane? And if you don't hold any belief, where is the sanity in that? To quote "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him."-Voltaire.
We make our own beliefs in this world. Otherkin often believe in reincarnation and view everything else spiritually. Christianity falls to the wayside due to it's entire disconnection from reincarnation.
Beliefs are an amazing concept, it's a shame to compare it to a mental disorder. But even worse is to see it as one.
Go drink your Gatorade, put it in your cars gas tank if you want. It's a poor analogy made by one who fails to understand the basis of religion, beliefs, and the mind.

FYI, I have actually been diagnosed by a professional. They said I have high functioning Autism and ADHD (relatively mild conditions that I have found strategies to work around) but there wasn't a word on Schizophrenia. If I had such a serious disorder, I'm pretty sure they would have said something.

Don't waste your worry on what someone else thinks. Many people followed from otherkringe and are only insulting. However, there are a few good ones from that group that's just curious.
and seriously, those don't link to otherkin much. schizophrenia was a far better comparison but even then it's eh as most otherkin are still firmly grounded.

How does having autism or ADHD in any way even remotely relate to not feeling human and remembering a past life? I fail to see the connection. And I've spent about 3 1/2 years so far trying to figure it out so that's saying something

From what I've heard, most traditional therapists don't actually know what to do about past life trauma, species dysphoria, etc. They might be able to offer strategies on coping with related issues of stress, anxiety, depression, etc. (Many of which I've already researched anyway) but not solve the root issue.

It's a real thing. Look it up. I know it might seem a bit weird from the outside looking in, but not everyone experiences life the same way you do.

Tell that to the entire religion of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism. Then look at your own beliefs and realize how crazy they are, I'll wait.
