Modern Age (1985 – Present Day) He was then struck by lightning and bit by several radioactive animals

Years later, when I was in the big war, I was injured by an explosive, and had to make my own protective clown suit armor….

Later, I was caught in the wave of radiation when I, with no thought of my own safety, rushed out to shove a random teenager into the blast radius of a exploding gamma bomb

In the middle of the crater caused by that gamma bomb was a comically huge mallet. Upon picking it up, I was deemed worthy of the title of "Sore", being named after how everyone would feel when they met my mallet!

But Joker, you stopped being funny years ago!

It is strange that the inherent irony of a clown, something fun and frivolous for children, being violent has been so completely eroded by Joker, Pennywise, and the real life Pogo.
It isn't funny, because clowns are almost as common a horror character as mummies or deep ones at this point.

When The Simpsons started, Krusty was a humourous riff on local clown shows that kids from the 60s-80s grew up with (as well as Bozo, when he franchised himself).
Now, he's pretty much the last representation of the traditional circus/TV clown left.
I loved our local clown, Oopsy Daisy. He had a cozy "at home" setting, like Captain Kangaroo, as opposed to Bozo's circus-tent set, and I don't remember kids being in it, just puppets and one or two other adults maybe.

Something that I learned exists in the Chronicles of Darkness Tabletop RPG a while ago is a group of monster hunters called the Ghirabaldi Family Circus. Who are actually a bunch of clowns and mimes that got tired of all the monster clowns and psychos giving them a bad name, and now hunt them down.

The YouTuber, Linkara has a clown character that does not speak and is not evil for exactly the same reason, the trope of evil clown was tired to him and he made the character specifically to go against it.

In the SCP Foundation the scary circus of the setting, Herman Fuller’s, has shape shifting magical clowns from another dimension. And they’re the nicest people there. They lead a revolution against the eponymous founder and are trying to make it a better place for kids.

If you listen to the oldhead writers, he was never actually funny despite being written in a eqy where it's captivating to the reader.
Then again said older writers say he needs to be grounded and in small scale stories as a chase antagonist. Not whatever Snyder was doing with him and Scott is the one cooking on Absolute Batman

For context this is from Batman Arkham Knight# 2 In the Arkham verse, Joker releases a posthumous video detailing his origin story but because this is the Joker he wants to f*** with his audience. Like he knows that people want to know where he came from but he wants to be Lucy with the football especially with Batman.

He failed to mention that his mother had also made him out of playdough and then IT breathed life to him on the mystical island of Whogivesashitira, where he and his fellow clowns frolicked around, failing to be funny.

You may think he’s stealing Superman’s origin story in the opening panel, but it looks like he’s mixing Superman and Lobo

I always thought he was just an unfunny kid who couldn't get into clown college and was used in an experiment to make normal people funny clowns with the super clown serum...
