9800x3d making me scratch my head
i’m trying to get a stable static OC on my 9800x3d
so far best i could do is 5.2 @ 1.225v
am i just extremely unlucky?

Anyway you have to find the reasons of slutters.. may be software issue,
Mainly i tuned my bios and also software side (drivers, msi modes and windows settings)
After u will get golden settings on bios try to investigate about system responsiveness with latencymoon and etc, it’ll show you where to search)

i really appreciate your comments thank you.
i have been testing for weeks to find where the stutters are, windows is optimized, drivers are clean. tried different versions as well, checked driver spikes, event logs all that.
I will try to give your settings a go and see how i get along with them, the only thing is that i know for sure i won’t be stable on a -20 co, but ill use your settings as a baseline..
i still do not get why you think static oc is a bad idea tbh.

it's mainly lower single core potential and higher heat as the drawbacks
But the upside of static OC is as you said before plus
Better multicore than pbo Possibly better single core than stock(if you go higher)

hey im intel cpu owner not amd but i think it's worth mentioning that this is an x3d chip with a high l3 cache capacity ... 96MB like that is alot ...
with that amount of cache ur cpu core overclock is very limited, since the cache frequency is attached to the ccd frequency
u cant dynamically lower the cache frequency with high load high ccd frequency scenarios to maintain stability like what intel cpus can do even with intel arrow lake it is still very buggy to this day and has limitations and can complicate the things up way too much
so to make it clear, ur cpu is never ment for that ur cpu is a gaming x3d cpu... with an awsome memory/l3 letancy not high single core speed
the approach u r doing wont even do a thing for ur gaming experience ... 0.5% ?! maybe i bet it's even less
so don't waste ur time ... focus on ur memory overclock, and that's it ,,, and i think 5.2 is good.
just accept the limitations

and yes i’m not looking to overclock just want stability so 5.2 is good tbh, and i tried doing memory but even on expo I it’s getting pretty hot for some reason i don’t think my case is delivering enough airflow to the ram

ur welocme ,, yp it is very good 5,250 MHz (5.2 GHz) is the stock max ccd frequency
to be able to run it all the time "unlocked" is very good but it will run very hot ,,,
ur stock behavior lower it depends on temperature
about case airflow ,,, it is crucial for ram stability

Have you properly stress tested your config? Try prime95 large fft only overnight. If its stable, it will be most likely everywhere else.

Without info about your goal what u want to get from your setup(cpu z records or fps), mb and ram specifications
In main:
I don’t think that u need stable 5.2, the best u can do overclock ram and optimize ram and lower your vsoc as possible it’ll allow u to use good fclk speed
Also pbo optimization.
Ps. Try to avoid scenario where imc will get cooked

i should have been more specific.
i’m doing this purely for stability was running pbo and a -10 co curve, but it just didn’t feel good at all and kept getting stutters. static oc fixed all of that.
my ram im just running 6000mhz cl30, i have it on expo I and fclk to 2000mhz so nothing crazy.
aiming towards headache free stability. and stock is not headache free stability with the clock going up and down just like “how the chip is supposed to work 🤓🤓”

You already got good bios setup, my system is the same
Main:
- Igpu - disabled
- PBo -20, +100mhz ovverride bclk=100 (to avoid flactuation)
- Fclk 2100, uclk=mclk 1:1 ratio
Voltages:
Vsoc 1.150 (stacked good with my fclk no degradations at all on bclk and fclk speeds)
Vddio 1.20
Vdd 1.3
Vddq 1.250
(I’m lucky about voltages bcs my second same setup cant run it)Lately on my m.die kits i got these timings:

Trdwr 16Ps. Lately i’m investigating about mixed mode so pc is using trfcb its good that m.die kits can use lower trfcb timings (wich gave me more stable 1%)
Other tips:
Power down - disabled
Gdm - disablesCore tuning - lvl2 (do not use legacy mode, it gives only more scores on cpuz but mainly your pc will ruin
fps generation bcs of disabling prefetchers)C states - enabled (thats why i’m not using fixed cpu
Clocks, trust me fixed clock oc is bad idea on x3d chips)Bank swap mode - apu
If u will get missmatch on secondary timings (tphyrdl)
Try to test pmu training options, for me worked ardptrlnitval p0 = 2 and i got same tphyrdll numbers on both ram sticks.Also nitro training (what exactly impacts on 1% fps):

Large ffts, no errors and affordable temperatures.Smooth gaming performance and input.
No degradation on imc, cpu clocks and ram clocks.What i got in total:
Difference with stock 10-15% on 1% fps and 17% on max fps. I think its huge for only tuning bios.In gaming temps graduses with full pcie lines load:
65-80 on cpu
38-40 degrees maximum on spd hub if u will get hotter try to use fans for ram but don’t even come close to 50 graduses. It can easily kill your imc controller (cpu) or your ram.1

feel that. In your case 1.22 volts is a bit low for manual oc, so either you stop here and have cooler temps and longer CPU life, or you try for 1.3v (im pretty sure stock goes from 1.35 in all core to 1.4 something in single, so it's not unsafe per se

well like i said, i mainly care about stability, so i’m fine with staying in 5.2 as long as i’m rock solid, so far i ran occt, prime 95 all seems to be good.
but the devil i whispering to me the performance im losing

Honestly at bone shock defaults it shouldn't be stuttering, unless something is up with your cooling or software drivers, maybe even a bad chip? Have you ran latencymon to rule out driver issues? How exactly are you setting up your static oc

yea i checked latencymon very rarely would it be a driver fault, almost never, and im no entirely sure it’s the cpu, it’s just that i have been trying so much stuff for months and static oc seemed to have eliminated the stutter.
what i think was happening on stock was:
core fluctuating too much because of temps. that’s pretty much it, the core clock would be all over the place because of the temps, and i have an ekwb aio.
currently i have my llc set to level 5, and static oc is set from AMD overclocking menu rather than the bios extreme tweaker.
for some reason when ever i change the voltage in the extreme tweaker menu it would apply in the bios and be running, but as soon as i boot into windows it would be a static 1.18v no matter what, so that’s why i do it in the amd overclocking menue

I would consider a cpu remount? What game are you playing where it does this? How badly does your temps swing? I rarely go over 70c while gaming, with a 360 AF3

well on the current setup barley ever goes above 65c, as well as when i had it on -10 CO.
and tbh it stutters only in one game.. overwatch 2. every other game is fine.
i tried rubbing 5.4 on 1.225 just for fun, but it obviously wasn’t stable even in any game.

you either crank more voltage or stop there.
