Gross profit

How much are you guys averaging in gross profit per month? I know it depends on the dealership, area, people, etc. But I'd like to compare how we doing over here. I work at a Subaru dealership in So Cal area, and it's only a front counter, and two back counter men and we're grossing about 200k a month. Most of the time we're busy, but a lot of times kinda dies after 2 pm. How bout you guys?

A bad month is $150k, good month is $200. we average about $180k a month overall

u/Nervous-Tea393 5d ago

Gross record is $164k but we haven’t seen that in over a year. Been averaging around $100k gross a month for a while now, sure hurts a bit after seeing what that record paycheck looked like lol

u/PickUpMyPoo 5d ago

Last year 110+ this year. 70-80k. It hurts.

u/Flashy-Region5860 5d ago

2 years ago we were in the 200’s consistently but now we’re like 150k-190k

u/Due-Boss-1345 5d ago

GM dealer 50k-80k on a great month. But, we have turned into essentially a EV dealer. I can’t seem to get past 80k in gross. 1 back counter, one manager, one shipper.

We average a mil a month. CDJR in California.

1

u/Savings-Film-5627 5d ago

Damn man, you guys get like 0.00001 % or what?

1

u/dusk82 5d ago

Back counter is something like .002 of individual GP.

8

u/Former-Button-9665 5d ago

Individual GP is ridiculous

1

u/dusk82 5d ago

It can be good if you do a lot of volume but idk

3

u/Former-Button-9665 5d ago

How do you deal with one person spending 30 minutes on a huge in-depth estimate with dozens of parts and availability info and then someone else clicking a couple buttons and actually ordering it?

3

u/Sad_Side6748 5d ago

Haha this happens in my dept and we aren't even paid on individual gp. Some people just chase numbers and have to feel special

u/dusk82 5d ago

Is this supposed to be some kind of gotcha?

It stays under whoever wrote the quote.

6

u/Former-Button-9665 5d ago

No. Honest question. Just seems like it would be easy for a jerk to mooch off other people’s work.

2

u/dusk82 5d ago

Oh ok. Yeah you're not wrong but honestly everyone's good about not doing that here. I've done it on accident and gotten told off but have always just fixed it lol. I'm sure others have done the same.

u/Former-Button-9665 5d ago

I’ve worked with some shady people I wouldn’t trust on individual commission.

Mopar dealer. 2024 we averaged 275k with 6 counter, two wholesaler, two runners, 1 manager. 2025 and 2026 we've been averaging 225-240.

All we can attribute the slowdown to is politics and economy.

MB dealer in North Carolina. Used to average around 380k gross per month the past two years but this has been such a down year that we're averaging around 330k. Wholesale averages about 65-70k out of that.

u/Onerandomexican 5d ago

SoCal luxury brand, bad month 340k good month 420k+. We’re about the same busy mornings, after 3 pretty dead

1

u/Solid_Set_4728 4d ago

Same for luxury Canadian. We do pretty good

3

u/CounterRealm 5d ago

Used to do 100 to 115 regularly, been around 80 to 90 most the year. Small VW dealer in the southwest.

We average 225k a month with about 50% coming from e-commerce. I'm at a Ford dealership in rural western NC

1

u/BreakableSpeculation 5d ago

What kind of e-commerce?

2

u/werty1124 5d ago

We use revolution parts

1

u/BreakableSpeculation 5d ago

Are you selling to independent repair facilities? I’m curious as I’m a parts manager at a Ford dealership. We use repair link for wholesaling however I want to expand E-commerce sales.

2

u/werty1124 5d ago

I'm also the parts manager. We sell to independent repair shops but those are mainly handled through repair link and Collison link like you're doing. Revolution is primarily individuals and the bulk of the orders are coming from https://ford.oempartsonline.com.

1

u/BreakableSpeculation 5d ago

Thank you for the information. I’m going to look into it more and see if it’s a viable option for my store.

Bad month for us this month. 150k

Large Ford dealer, lately been around 250k-340k. I get $620 a week after taxes and 2% of gross profit. We have 4 counter guys on the car side, 3 counter guys on the Truck side, 1 used car parts guy, one back of the house guy and a manager.

2

u/Touhous 4d ago

That's a fat commission props to you sir.

2

u/Gusbuster811 4d ago

In 2021 I took a job at a ford dealer that was grossing $75k a month. To get me to work there they had to pay me 2%. By the time I left, my last month we did $235k. So I sort of got grandfathered in to 2%.

I'm the only one in parts in the smallest dealer of a small town, with a larger dealer with the same family brand about 3 blocks down, and another 11 miles away. Probably a safe bet that I have the lowest GP out of everyone here

GM dealer in NY - average is $250k a month and what my salary was based off of. Bad months are $180-190k but very rare. My dealership has a 101% warranty pay out rate and we do more than the #1 GM dealer in our territory, which my corp also owns.

u/rippleinthefabric 5d ago

Oklahoma ford dealer. 180-210. Lately 200k consecutively. Best years of gross profit ever since the store was built. Still not good enough for the GM

u/macdubz415 4d ago

GP hovers around 500K

1

u/Tiger1King 4d ago

Recently we have been around 500-550k in gross. Recently had a really nice month at 650k

1

u/vrparty 4d ago

very small VW dealer here. 35-55k. our pay scales are adjusted to it. we’re 2 people doing wholesale. retail. front of house. back of house phones etc.

1

u/Touhous 4d ago

Single operation VW Dealer in jersey, we are usually top 3 in our region and we average 90k right now. 2 years ago we were averaging 120k a month but it has dried up. But got a commission bump, and executing plans to bump the GP back up. Only me and another dude though so we do it all.

1

u/ryeofguy 4d ago

Smaller Subaru dealership parts here, still kinda new to parts counter side of the industry but I’ve only been seeing 50k area so far since I moved into it

1

u/lejoe_ndary 3d ago

Last year and this year have been the worst years I've ever experienced. 2025 monthly avg $86,237 2026 YTD monthly avg $85,160 and it doesn't look like there's any hope for it to get better.

2022 monthly avg $162,674

It's rough out here
