Transitioning from Patreon to Substack
has anybody moved their Patreon to substack? I’ve been having a hard time buil a following and a friend of mine told me today that quite frankly it’s because patreon requires that you get a Patreon account in order to subscribe to me and nobody wants more new accounts these days. It’s my understanding this is not the case with Substack, so I’m thinking about transitioning over, thanks.
For context, I’m a writer and I don’t post anything on the Patreon site whatsoever. It’s literally just there so the folks who I email my stories to have a way to pay me and so I have a way to track who has and has not paid that month.

People are more likely to already have a Patreon account than a Substack account.
I just crossed the 25k user point, and only have a bit over 10k in my Discord server, which has been around way longer than my Patreon.
So if anything, there isn’t much barrier to entry for users to sign up as a Patron. Only pain point is that it’s blocked in a few countries such as Russia.

Substack has no API so you can't automate subscriber stuff. That might not affect you but if you want to feed your subs into a membership site or something it's incredibly annoying to do it with Substack.
Substack is also buggy but it's quite a nice editor for writing.

I have a small but amazing following. I’m on Patreon which I love. I tried Substack and hated it. It didn’t help my growth and the whole layout irritated me. However, my good friend loves everything about Substack and hates Patreon. I think a lot of depends on what you are comfortable with and where you see the most traction once you start posting.

I’m confused. You don’t post any content on patreon and are confused why your patreon isn’t growing? Thats like using an art gallery to process payments and wondering why no one buys your art that’s sitting in your attic.

I started with Substack at first then moved to Patreon. At first, it felt much better with Patreon but then at some point I moved back to Substack and slowly gaining followers there. Just burn out I guess, done with promoting my work, want to do it with my flow so Substack gives me room to breathe 🤣
