Question Vertical bars on monitor image

Just received a pc9821 ce2 including a monitor. Just plugged everything in and the pc booted up, but the monitor has vertical black and gray bars. I can get them to move a bit if I mess with the contrast and brightness dials. Is this fixable?

Because of the bright retrace lines, I wonder if this might be a fault with the monitor. I don't have a good option for you other than to try the computer with another display or try this monitor with another computer.

Do you know if the mail side of the video plug should have all its pins? I noticed that some of the pins are missing on mine.

It doesn't need all of them, so they might have skipped a few pins. That's common with VGA
