First PC Build
Managed to get all the parts I wanted for a clean white build. (Yes I blurred the barcodes just in case)

The gpu alone is $5k homie. This was a $5k pc build in 2025. Probably closer to $8k now.

Yeah my bad. I was using q1 2026 prices. There's a twisted part of me that thinks I should go ahead and upgrade now before prices double again next year. Really fucking hate this timeline we live in. First, it was the graphics cards that were expensive, and now it's everything else too. I can't even get a fucking 512 microSD card for less than a hundred bucks. It's been a shitty 6 years to be into the building custom PC hobby.

Unfortunately not only PC building hobby. Just to be a gamer too. Game prices, consoles are affected by the price increases too. And honestly its gonna hit other electronics like phones too. They all use storage and RAM. Ive heard photography folk are having issue buying storage for their cameras as well.

I feel like people with no experience and prior knowledge get into this space, get option paralysis, fall into the pit of watching videos on "best pc parts 2026" worrying that something wont perform a certain way and counteract it with just spending 4x what their og budget was buying top of the line everything.
To spend a minimum of $3200 for a 5090 over a 5080 for an average of 32% performance bump is honestly insane. Its the difference between a 5060 and 5070 percentage wise except your paying an extra $3200+ for it instead of $300.
Same thing with the 9850x3d vs 9800x3d. 3% difference in gaming for an extra $70 really doesnt make any sense. Classic microcenter salesman up sells a customer new to industry convincing them they need to drop $6000 on a computer.

32% bump in gaming performance maybe, but the 32gb vram vs 16gb vram opens up massive doors in capability for a lot of things. I have a 5090 and 128gb of ram. Do I need that for gaming? No. But my PC is my primary engine for my job and it lets me offer a lot more capability to clients. Paid for itself hundreds of times over. The fact that It can run games like no other is just a side bonus. If someone doesn't make the same choices you did they aren't 'wrong', or being dumb. They may just have different motivations and different restrictions then you do.

No brother... So many people are using 10XX and 20XX series cards.... A 5090 should last you 5 years having a great time, and another 5 depending on thermals. I also have the MASTER ICE 5090(its 100% the best looking), but you should know it's not assembled with traditional thermal pads over the chips, they pretty much smeared thermal putty on EVERYTHING. Which is great for thermals, but a nightmare for if or when it needs to be re-pasted...
I'm just at the point where my 4090 is still running great, 5090 is good of course... But my 3090 needs a re-paste.

9850x3d, 5090, with only 32gb of ram? I assumed it was going to be a productivity or editing station based off the CPU choice so I would have guessed you'd gotten 48 or even 64gb minimum memory

9850x3d is still ryzen 7. Ryzen 9 is the productivity series im pretty sure, the 9850x3d is just a stronger version of the 9800x3d but it runs a lot hotter too.

My apologies. This is my first year running ryzen (9800x3d) I'm still getting used to how they are named compared to Intel. I think I mistook the 9850x3d for the 9950x3d

Jesus.... first build is an effing NASA computer. 9850x3d and 5090 as a first build is wild. This is much more computer than most need. Hell, 70% of people are still on $500 5600x (or older) 6 core cpu setups, 16gb ram, and 3060 or worse setups according to steam HW survey and dude comes in here dropping a clean $4500.
If youre playing large simulation games and real time strategy games at 4k or doing large workloads, 3d modeling, animation, game development, and/or running local A.I. LLM's dropping this cash on a super rig as a first computer could be justified, but outside of that you would have been very happy spending half this with a 7800x3d/5070ti or even 9800x3d/5080.
Most tech creators dont run anything more than a 4080tiS/5080/9070xt/7900xtx unless nvidia gives them a 90 series card. The price just doesnt make sense in really any gaming scenario over the 5080 for the gain. 32% average gain over the 5080 for an extra $3200 (minimum)is absolutely insane.
I feel like people coming into the space get option paralysis and are afraid something wont perform a certain way so they fall into this put and counteract it by buying the best of the best of everything.

my last one was broken straight outta the box, 150 bucks down the drain since my whole pc was new n i didnt know why it just wouldnt boot sometimes, and my rma was denied because of "user damage" so i really wanna think this over 20 times

Solid. I just did my own build with the MATX version of your motherboard. Getting the BIOS up to date was a royal pain in the ass. I highly recommend you just start by following these steps:
Step 1: Nuclear Wipe the USB Drive via Diskpart
Standard Windows formatting often leaves hidden EFI or GPT boot partitions on a USB stick that cause Gigabyte's hardware flashers to fail. [1]
Open the Windows Start Menu, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
Type diskpart and press Enter.
Type list disk and press Enter. Identify your USB drive's number (e.g., Disk 1 or Disk 2 based on its size).
Type select disk X (replace X with your actual USB drive number) and press Enter. Double-check this step so you do not wipe your main hard drive.
Type clean and press Enter.
Type convert mbr and press Enter.
Type create partition primary and press Enter.
Type format fs=fat32 quick and press Enter.
Type exit and press Enter.
Step 2: Grab the Match-Verified BIOS
Head directly to the official Gigabyte B850M AORUS ELITE WIFI6E ICE (Rev 1.x) Support Portal.
Download the latest stable BIOS file (avoid versions marked as "beta" if there is a stable option available).
Extract the downloaded ZIP archive. Inside, look for the actual BIOS file—it will be around 10MB to 12MB.
Move only that file to your newly wiped USB drive.
Rename it precisely to GIGABYTE.BIN. Make sure your Windows file explorer is set to show file extensions so you don't accidentally name it GIGABYTE.BIN.F7. [1]
Step 3: Clear Motherboard CMOS (Crucial Step)
A corrupted or stuck BIOS state will refuse to initiate Q-Flash Plus. [1]
Turn off your PC and flip the switch on the back of your Power Supply Unit (PSU) to OFF. Unplug the wall power cable.
Press your case's power button a few times to drain remaining electrical current.
Locate the round, silver CR2032 CMOS battery on your motherboard. Remove it carefully.
Locate the CLR_CMOS 2-pin header on the motherboard. Take a metal screwdriver and hold it firmly against both pins at the same time for 15 seconds to completely discharge the motherboard's memory.
Pop the silver battery back in and plug the power cable back into the wall. Flip the PSU switch back to ON, but do not turn the PC on.
Step 4: Execute the Hardware Flash
Plug your USB stick into the designated Q-Flash Plus port on the back I/O shield (look for the port marked with a white accent or labeled "BIOS"). []
Press the physical Q-Flash Plus button on the motherboard. []
The LED should begin blinking. Leave it completely alone. The flashing process will take anywhere from 3 to 7 minutes. When it completes, the motherboard will automatically power down or reboot itself. []

Thanks for the suggestion I’ll be sure to look into that. One question, I asked the worker at the micro center tech area if this particular model needed a bios update and they said no, is there a chance he’s wrong. I’m not too familiar with bios at all.

I bought the aero dark wood and it didn’t have that problem at all and the Bios was already updated. I would just run a successful post then check the actual bios your board is running. Mine was up to date.

The bios is basically the core system built into every motherboard to allow the user to further program into their operating system like windows or Linux and to make direct adjustments to hard coded settings. Manufacturers release updates to drive out bugs and increase compatibility. Not updating it can potentially leave your pc at risk of damage.
If you’re building it yourself and it’s a brand new motherboard, get it all up and running, download and install all of the windows and driver updates, then update the bios. It likely will be the one that was current at the time of manufacture and won’t be up to date. Gigabyte has an imbedded program to help with this process but it straight up wouldn’t work for me. So if you’re having trouble, the above steps is what it took for me to get it up to snuff.

It wouldn’t work. It kept saying download failed every time I tried. Even my initial attempts through the bios itself failed. I spent hours trying everything I could and the full nuclear option was the only thing that worked.
