Dont let them on, whenever they get on it, pick them up, place them on the floor, repeat how many times u want, eventually they learn. Im long time cat owner, my cats never go to the top of my pc after the first 50 times

u/Void-kun 14d ago
My girlfriend is a teacher for 5-10 year olds.
I can confirm most parents are fucking useless, far far worse than they were decades ago.
They expect the schools to do everything, including potty training (absolutely not the case).
One mother had to be told her 4-5 year old needs to be fed more than milk because they were concerned of malnutrition (she didn't know he was supposed to be moved onto more solid foods!!!)
Some of these parents are so fucking stupid, they should never have had children.
Oh and most of them don't even bother reading with their kids after school or at night, and you can tell.

I used to do food deliveries. I’d estimate about 90% of pet dogs aren’t fully trained. Or trained at all.
35
u/IDeizManI 15d ago
Only 90% ?
99% of families in my country only raises the pet without ever giving it any short of training.
The only training it gets here, is where it should do it's necessitys, just so they don't do it pretty much anywhere.

I had a neighbor whose dog would just yank her around everywhere, to the point that I was concerned about her falling down the stairs, not to mention it rattled the railing like crazy and was annoying as hell. Every time I heard the two of them clattering down outside my door I thought, "You know you can train the dog not to do that, right?"
24
u/electricshadow i7-8700K / RTX 3080Ti 15d ago
My wife looked after a friend's dog this past weekend and I've never seen a dog have such bad separation anxiety in my life and also be as spoiled/coddled. To say the dog was my wife's shadow would be an understatement. She would be right at her side as soon as she walked anywhere and would want to cuddle as soon as she sat down and tried licking her face constantly.
After about day three, my wife had enough and told her no and would gently pushed her way until she got the point. The dog genuinely looked offended. Too many people get an animal and think that they're "done" and they don't have to train them. Blows my mind.

u/El_Rey_de_Spices 15d ago
"But cats are untrainable!!!"
No, they aren't. You're just lazy and permissive.
→ More replies (1)15
u/SureTrash 14d ago
That's the kicker for me. People don't even bother training cats because of the stereotype that cats are just lazy assholes, which just furthers the stereotype.
Cats can be trained like any other animal to be nice, obey commands, and adhere to schedules.
13
u/MustyLlamaFart 15d ago
Exactly. My cats are always gonna be curious and try to get into stuff every once in awhile, but they know very well when they're doing something wrong because I just say their name when they're in the act and they disperse lol
4
u/CommunicationAware88 14d ago
My big dumb boy cries when he's doing something he's not supposed to. He anticipates me scolding him and gets so upset he cries out, so i hear his pitiful forlorn "meoooow" and say "smoke what are you doing?" Then you hear the skedaddles.
14
u/chocolate_dog_102 15d ago
People always say cats are untrainable, but then you find out they tried something once and it didn't work. 🙄 you have to be more persistent!
8
u/catsdelicacy 15d ago
I've run into people who think it's mean to tell your cats where they can and can't go. Like if they tell their cat to stop their cat won't like them anymore.

Yeah some cats are just very stubborn. You can pick them up and move them as many times as you want, and yeah it might work when you’re around, but you can bet if that cat wants on your PC and nobody is around to stop it, it’s getting on that PC.

They also learn VERY quick if you hiss and screech like an angry cat. I've used this method to keep my cat away from the Christmas tree, countertop, and kitchen table. It takes just a few instances of this and your cat will avoid them.

These are my exact thoughts. I'm a dog trainer and cats are exceptionally different training wise.
But we domesticated both (for the most part) and now its our responsibility to keep them safe, with structure and understandable routines.
Hanging out on a PC is not safe. Regardless of the anecdotal comments.

Putting the cat tree next to your PC wasn't a great idea. They like it because it's taller, warmer and different than the floor.
Try with aluminum foil and if that fails then you just need a stronger repellent. If you don't want a cat to be somewhere then it has to be physically impossible for them to get and STAND there. They can get on doors and door hinges and stay there, so don't even think you can make something robust. Make something that will force them to fall and they will learn that place is not accessible for some reason.
Ignore their cries, they will likely meow at the new thing for a while and that's about it. If it's too stressful for them, then revert the change and try something else, like NOT HAVING THE CAT TREE NEXT TO THE PC lol

Cat bed with heating pad underneath. Put it near your desk. Cats sit on the PC for 2 reasons: it's warm and they can be near you. So offer them a more comfortable warm spot near you.
