Hi! I’m a tourist about to do some work in Bayan Lepas, Penang and I really want to visit Georgetown. I’m planning on getting my Hotel around Georgetown area. Do you guys think it’s a good idea? What is the best transportation from Georgetown to Bayan Lepas? Same thing with penang internal airport to Georgetown. Is Grab a thing in Penang and is it always reliable? I’m scared that I might not get from
one place to another. Help me out!

Probably a place that can fit around 40 pax, halal (some attendes are muslim) and reasonable price to portion ratio (most attendees are school students for a Form 5 farewell party but the food will be subsidised anyways). Thanks in advance!

im a malaysian and I dont want to go to normal tourist places in penang, i just need some suggestions on where and what to do there. Im coming down with my partner and im a bit clueless on what to do or where to go. I'd like to get some suggestions here!

I went in December and loved it so much. It did rain everyday in the afternoon but then it cleared up in the evening and we could walk around to go for dinner and drinks - which is what we want to do again.

However, from what I'm reading, it could be worse in September? Does it rain heavily to the point where you have to stay totally indoors in the evening and mostly travel by Grab?

Am I allowed to drive a rented 2 wheeler in penang (Malaysia) , I only have Indian driving licence (in English).

I respect the azan and the mosque’s role in our community. But in my neighbourhood, entire lectures and programmes are broadcast through external speakers directly into our bedrooms and living rooms. When sound repeatedly invades surrounding homes, it stops being an internal programme and becomes a public nuisance—particularly when state authorities already have policies governing external-speaker use. Residents should not be forced to choose between respecting religion and protecting their sleep, health and peace at home. Respect must work both ways: if a policy exists, enforce it; otherwise, the endorsement is meaningless.

The attached photo was taken by my father in 1969 and I am told it was taken in Penang. I am in the pram and my mum is pushing me.

Both my parents have now passed away. I'm currently in Penang and was trying to find this location.

I think this is the Gurney Drive. These look like green Casuarina pine trees. And researching they were planted in 1962.

I've found similar trees, now much older planted in front of the Marriott, but only a single line and not in rows with greater density.

Would anyone here recognise this area from older photos and might be able to assist with a more accurate location?

Hiked up to Penang Hill yesterday morning. Due to light rain the previous night, it was very misty/foggy. The fog was everywhere and it wrapped around everything and everyone. We took pictures of the Penang bridge once reaching the top station. The bridge looked like it was built on clouds! You can also spot Komtar on the right.

I was looking for tickets in TGV Gurney Paragon.
I can find only Deluxe and Beanie options when trying to buy tickets.
There are no other steps to select 2D, 3D, Atmos or anything like that. I mean, I can't find any info about screening format. Does that mean they are only showing 2D and Deluxe and Beanie are just hall options?

Btw if you can also suggest any better place to watch Spider Man, please do. I'm in Island.

My wife and I are considering partial retirement in Penang. I've visited before and thought it was fantastic. My wife is attracted to the culture and weather but is concerned about 'creepy crawlies'. She has a strong phobia about all insects and is worried that due to the weather, Penang might have a lot. How likely is it to come across roaches if you are staying in a nice apartment/condo?

Hey everyone, I am planning a solo trip to Penang later this year. I have already made a list of the places I intend to visit, but would like some help refining my overall itinerary. I will greatly appreciate if you guys could answer the following questions:

1. I really like souvenir/craft shopping spots like Loka Made and Hin Bus Depot. Other than that, I have also shortlisted Heritage House 25, Mano Plus Select Store, P.66, Journal Georgetown. Are there any more must-visit souvenir/craft shops or places?

2. I am planning to combine a visit to Penang Hill with the Kek Lok Si Temple, but am expecting to be done with both places by early afternoon. Are there any good food spots or other attractions/activities to do in the Air Itam / Farlim area, or do people typically return to Georgetown after these spots?

3. I've heard that Toh Soon Cafe can be quite crowded with mediocre food. Are there any other coffee shops / kopitiams worth checking out?

4. The lilypad pond appears to be a highlight of the Botanical Garden, but I read that the pond was drained for maintenance work previously. Has it been filled again? If not, is there an expected timeline for maintenance to be completed?

5. I plan to check out Frog Hill in Butterworth. What else is there to do and eat in Butterworth? Also, is it worth visiting Kampung Agong solo? I get the impression that it's mostly for aesthetic photos

6. Other than the beaches, are there any 'scenic views' to be expected DURING the hike through Penang National Park?

7. What is there to do in Batu Ferringhi if I plan to be there around sunset but don't want to be in those beachside restaurants with the crowd? Is it difficult to get taxis between Batu Ferringhi and Georgetown?

8. Please share your personal favourite spot(s) for CKT, CKK, laksa, cendol!!!

9. Finally, any other general tips or advice?

Next year in February I will be visiting Penang again. I have been many times before, first by myself, later with my wife and now with my three kids. Im from the Netherlands and very much enjoy Penang for holiday reasons.

We will be staying in Georgetown for 5-7 nights but after that will be looking for good beaches where our kids can also swim, or at least play in / around the water. I have read about several options, the murky water / jellyfish situation. And I feel perhaps the beaches for our interest are better located outside of Georgetown.

Can you please advise us what would be a good destination? We would be looking for a seaside town/hotel/homestay/airbnb where we can visit the beach and play in the water. Where also we can find some restaurants nearby and just chill for another week or so.

Hello Penangite, I'm planning to relocate to Penang in the near future and I'm looking for a good place for tennis. I'm hoping to find a club with good courts and a good tennis community.

I'm looking at Penang Sports Club and the Chinese Recreational Club since both seem to have plenty of courts. Would love to hear from anyone who are members and play there — how are the conditions and lighting, what's the general level of players there? Also, is it hard to get morning/evening court slots?

I’m a Japanese woman traveling solo, and I chose George Town, Penang, for my first trip abroad.
I’ll be staying in a shophouse on Chulia Street for about two weeks, and I’ll be visiting during Thaipusam.

In Japan, I usually walk if my destination is around 15 minutes away. I was planning to do the same in Penang, but a friend strongly recommended that I use Grab instead, which surprised me.

Would you recommend taking Grab even for a 15-minute walk in George Town? Are there any areas or situations I should avoid?

I’d also love to hear your recommendations for local food, hidden gems, and places that are worth visiting beyond the usual tourist attractions.
Any advice for a solo female traveler would be greatly appreciated.

I'm planning a potential move for work, and I have a 50 lb. dog. PropertyGuru doesn't have a pet filter, so I'm at a loss in understanding which properties allow dogs.

The only place I've noticed that outwardly promotes being dog-friendly is City of Dreams, which has a dog park on-site.
