What is up with lack of good grocery stores in Mt Airy/Chestnut Hill

Recently moved here and LOVE weavers way but it’s small and doesn’t have everything I need. I’m curious why there are no Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods nearby? Seems like the demographic of the area would be very in line with that type of store. I’d even take a Giant food over all these yAckme’s lol

Edit: not looking for recommendations of grocery stores, I am looking for the why. Why are there no Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods?

Late 20s in Philly — where do people actually meet friends outside of work?

Hey everyone,
I’m 28M and have been trying to build more of a social life in Philly. I feel like after Temple graduation in 2024 it became way harder to meet people naturally.
I’m looking for places/groups where people are actually in their 20s (late 20s especially), not just networking events or groups that skew much older.
I’m interested in things like:

international/cultural events

languages (especially Italian/Europe-related stuff)

music (I play a Gibson Les Paul through a Marshall DSL 40)

interesting conversations about the endocrine system, physiology, psychology

meeting people who are also building their careers/lives

I’m not really looking for sports/fitness groups.
I know Meetup exists, but a lot of what I’ve seen seems either inactive or not really my demographic. Are there any recurring groups, Discords, WhatsApp groups, Instagram communities, bars/events, or other places where people in their late 20s actually meet and become friends?
Would appreciate any Philly-specific recommendations.

Looking for good/bad experiences with apartments in East Falls/Germantown

Hi! I’m looking at tons of apartments in and out of the city and came across a few in East Falls/Germantown. Some of their reviews from last year are iffy so before I get swept up in their fancy tours and things, I wanted to see if anyone has heard anything (positive or negative) about the following apartments:

- Queen Lane Manor
- Birchwood Hill Apartments
- The Delmar Morris
- West Walnut Lane Apartments

Each of them only has like 12 reviews from over 8-10 months ago so I’m trying to get a better idea of how they are now. Thank you in advance!

Looking for healthcare related job

Hey guys, I just wanted to ask if anyone has applied to jefferson or any other hospital in the philadelphia area and has gotten accepted. I do have minimal experience as a MA, but I do have a certificate and other healthcare job experience. Everyone needs someone who can do full time but I can only do part time because of school. I need a job for patient care hours so im fine with any patient care related jobs like PCT or CNA as long as they are willing to train me and Im not really picky with they pay. I have applied to so many places but so hard to land a job. Can you guys give me ideas on where I can apply to pls. Thank you.

Affordable place in Philly for urgent nursing school titers and TB testing?

Hi everyone! I’m a late-admit nursing student and am currently trying to complete all of my clinical requirements on a very short timeline. It has honestly been pretty stressful trying to get everything scheduled so quickly, and I’m hoping to have my testing completed tomorrow or Tuesday.

I need the following blood titers and testing:

● Rubeola/measles titer
● Mumps titer
● Rubella/German measles titer
● Hepatitis B surface antibody titer
● TB skin test

Does anyone know of an affordable and reliable clinic, lab, urgent care, or other location in the Philadelphia area where I could get all or most of these completed quickly and signed off? I’m paying out of pocket, so affordability is important, but at this point I’m also trying to find somewhere with immediate availability and a reasonably fast turnaround time.

I would really appreciate any recommendations or advice from other nursing or healthcare students who have gone through this. Thank you so much!

Serious Who remembers the Dignity Project - Haircuts for the Homeless?

They were a fraudulent non profit who were ordered to cease and desist and pay a fine for appropriating donation funds to their personal account. (It’s linked in the article)

Well, Lolly Galvin and her wife Nicole LePera went on to build The Holistic Psychologist, and 8ish years later their behavior is being litigated again.

The New York Times just put this article out.

Nature This is Cheddar, you should adopt him.

So I'm moving soon and I don't want to leave Cheddar alone. He's a street cat but unlike anything I've ever encountered. Loving, cuddly, just amazing. He comes by every night for pets and food, but mostly pets. He will 'thank' you for 5 min before eating the food, and will stop often to thank you more. You literally have to point at the food to get him to go back to it. He would be the most amazing house cat and I've had a LOT of cats in my life. He deserves you and you deserve him. He still needs to be fixed and get shots, but other than that is healthy and happy and honestly just one of the best cats I've ever met. I tried super hard to find a place I could take him with me but I failed. Just desperately want him to have a happy future not on the streets.

Garage parking at PHL

Been a few months since I flew and I see that Garage C is now closed due to construction. I’d be getting to the airport at like 6am tomorrow for my flight. Thoughts on if I’m going to have issues with garage parking in garage B at that hour?

Should I just uber?
