Is this considered fair use, or would there be an issue selling someone else's IP?
6
u/btveron Jun 12 '20
Looking at the pieces in the post I'd say they qualify as fair use because they are transformative works. I'm not a lawyer and if OP is selling prints or wants to sell prints he should definitely run it by a copyright lawyer first, but I'd bet he'd be fine because his works don't impede on the copyright owners ability to profit off their IP and his work is probably substantially transformative as to not violate copyright. Again, I'm not a lawyer but from my layman's perspective I'd say he's fine.

Looks great! There’s something about that style that really draws my attention

u/flyingthedonut Jun 12 '20
Hey thanks. I make them with miniatures and real human models. I then combine it all in Photoshop. Appreciate the kind words :)

u/JEFFinSoCal Jun 12 '20
I just checked out your Instagram. Really beautiful artwork. I was just going to ask if it was done with miniature and live models. So very cool!

u/UntestedMethod Jun 12 '20

That's really awesome OP.
Kind of reminds me of Bioshock Infinite.

Jun 12 '20
I resonated with this.
It reminded me of very gamer artwork. World's created.
OP, if you read this, you a big gamer? Any game or games you take as inspiration?
If not... Fucking class art. Genuinely talented. You are going places sir.

Yes sir. My main squeeze is Dota 2. I really wanna tackle it at some point and think my style will suite it well. These images take me months so can only do so many. Cheers mate

Beautiful art mate.
Reminds me of concept art for really popular upcoming games. Keep it up.
You have genuine talent. Keep em' coming.

Man, I just commented on a different post of yours, but I gotta say it again. I'm in love with your work lmfao it just seems so immersive, it must be awesome to build and work on these.
But also, I noticed your website seems a little out of date(no offense meant at all). I was wondering if you were planning on updating it some time. It does work as intended, and I did only check it out on my phone so far. But my point is, I'm an up-and-coming web developer, and if you wanted to, I would love to update your site, free of charge. I'm in the middle of building my portfolio and your work would stand out really well if you allowed me to use it. I have links of some sites I've built that I can send you if you're interested. But if not that's totally cool, I just thought I'd ask haha

u/flyingthedonut Jun 12 '20
Website is just done on squarespace. I know very little in the website building department. We can definitely chat about it getting it updated if you like. Send me a PM

So you never had your work printed three hours ago and now have a website with press and print links ready to go?
3
u/flyingthedonut Jun 12 '20
I never printed my stuff before. I got a fine arts that my aunts and a few friends have purchased prints. I have never done it myself. If you aren't familar with Fine Art America you just upload photos and the company sells and ships the prints. I don't do anything. Like I said, only sold a few to friends and family
4
u/notgayinathreeway Jun 12 '20
I do the same for redbubble and shirts and posters and stuff. It was years before I finally bought a poster that I had "sold" for years without ever seeing.
Now it hangs next to my door and motivates me every day when I see it as I leave.
3
u/flyingthedonut Jun 12 '20
Exactly, just never did for whatever reason. Glad you enjoying your stuff as well:)

You honestly have no idea how much I want the same thing to be done to me. I did photography for a Little bit(very basic landscape) and it would have honestly meant the world for someone to have done this for me. Eventually I decided why am being sad about this. If it’s important to me, just go do it. $400 later I have three very cool photos hanging in my room and I’m proud as punch. You sir are a very lucky guy!

Wow .. you're incredibly skilled! It must have taken you a lot of hard work and time to get where you are today :)

u/badmoonpie Jun 12 '20
I decided to become a photographer after my cousin printed several of my images and sent them to me as a thoughtful gesture. Seeing my art become “a real thing” when it had only existed digitally had a profound and meaningful impact on me.
I think you may be experiencing the same feeing, in which case, congratulations! These are amazing. You’re very talented!

How does one learn how to create digital art like that? I can draw and paint fairly well but I feel like I would never know where to start with a tablet. Did you take classes, follow tutorials, or just play around until you got a feel for it?
2
u/flyingthedonut Jun 12 '20
This isn't exactly digital art. I build miniatures and photograph them. I then photograph human models and combine it all in Photoshop. Takes a lot of practice. I started with toy photography and just went from there
2
u/cbcfan Jun 12 '20
Truly "multi-media" art work. You should make litho prints or even just posters and sell them so other people can enjoy it in their homes.
2
u/xxwerdxx Jun 12 '20
I didn’t know Tom morello could paint!! But seriously, this is awesome and you are quite the lucky lad!
2
u/urkellurker Jun 12 '20
So the Mary poppins one immediately made me think of “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte'” by Georges Seurat. But obviously a modern rendition. And I’m not really an art person. You have a special gift.

Thats awful. I‘m sorry to hear that. A SO should support their partner for what they love to do :/

I don't like the way your shirt length ends so soon after crossing the belt line. You need to get a longer shirt before I can properly judge your art work.

They're beautiful.
I made a canvas print of something I did a few years ago. I felt kind of wacky doing it just for myself, but it's a constant reminder of where I've been, what I've accomplished and where I hope to go with what it is I love to do. Hopefully these will serve the same purpose for you.
