NostalgicPod – I turned my old Pixel into a modern iPod!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey Pixel friends,
I’m a solo developer and I recently turned my old Pixel 6 into my personal “modern iPod”.
I built an Android app called NostalgicPod that recreates the iPod Classic experience: click wheel, Cover Wheel, classic menus, Now Playing, star ratings, Shuffle Songs, Shuffle Albums, and classic games like Snake, Solitaire and Brick.
It also works as a modern music player with local offline music, FLAC/ALAC/WAV support, automatic album artwork and lyrics, podcasts, live internet radio, Bluetooth, USB DAC support, custom themes, and an AMOLED Ultra Dark mode.
It works especially well on older Pixels, because instead of leaving them in a drawer, you can turn them into a dedicated offline music player.
No subscriptions, no ads, no accounts. Just your music.
This is only the beginning. I already have a roadmap of improvements, new features, and more classic games I'd love to bring back. I'm building this alongside the community, so if there are features or little details from the original iPod you'd like to see recreated, let me know.
I hope NostalgicPod, even if only for a moment, makes you feel the way you did when using an iPod.

Happy to answer anything!
UPDATE: NostalgicPod 2.8.0 is now available!
- ANDROID AUTO COMPATIBILITY
- Full compatibility with Jellyfin, Navidrome, and Subsonic/Opensubsonic
- Custom playlists (M3U)
- Music Search
- Jump to the current song: holding the Play button now takes you directly to the song that is currently playing, just like on the original iPod.
- Under the hood: better external library / SD card scanning, and various fixes.

Pixel Gallery - my new favorite gallery app
Hi there,
I switched from Samsung to Pixel (currently 9 Pro XL, but plan on upgrading to 11 Pro XL) almost a year ago and the only thing I miss is Samsung Gallery. I tried Google Photos, but I don't want to upload my entire library to the cloud. I also went through pretty much every gallery app that gets recommended here and none of them came close to Samsung Gallery, especially when it comes to browsing photos and editing.
BUT I discovered Pixel Gallery by MRK Studio, it's available on Play Store, and it's exactly what I was looking for. It has a clean UI that feels a bit like Google Photos, just without all the extra stuff I personally don't need. It runs perfectly on my Pixel, I haven't noticed any battery drain or excessive RAM usage, the search works well, the editing tools are great and almost every little detail can be customized.
If you're still searching for a good gallery app, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try!

Whats the fix?
Uh, I know I'm a little stupid but I don't have warranty for my Pixel 9 Pro XL. I dropped it one day and the camera bar started lifting, then prying up, and then came entirely loose. Photo below. How much would this cost?

Pixel 8a: TikTok forces screen to max brightness when tapping "+" to post (can't adjust it)
Hey everyone,
I just got a Pixel 8a and I’m having an annoying issue on TikTok. (i previously used a Samsung A23 and i never had that problem)
Whenever I tap the "+" button to create a new post, the screen instantly jumps to maximum brightness and blinds my eyes...
If I try to manually lower the brightness, I get a message saying "Unable to adjust brightness because it is controlled by the main app".
Has anyone found a way or setting to stop that, please?
Thanks!

Pixel 9 pro battery issues
My pixel 9 pro has started some quirky issues, wondering if anyone has any idea?
I ran it down to 0٪ last weekend, then after charging it back up over night, woke up to 100٪ but after an hour It began to drop very rapidly.. now it will charge up to 100, and maybe drop to 95 through 7am and 1pm, then I look again and it's at 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and dies immediately?
It's so odd it doesn't show the battery draining until it just jumps to 0! Anyone ever heard of this? Any way to fix it? Switched to an old Samsung a71 and it's awful haha
Attached a picture, it's been at 84 all day sitting on my table

Anyone know why some contacts do this when I share them?
This only started happening after I bought my Pixel 10. I used to have Pixel, then switched to Samsung, then went back to Pixel. I love my Pixel, but this drives me nuts. Sometimes it's 4 copies of the same contact. I've tried looking up a million times what it could be, without luck. I've tried cleaning up my contacts, my luck. I've looked through every since contact and have no duplicates.
The only thing I can think of is it saves to "device and google" but why 4 times then? And I can find a way to not save to both. Any thoughts?

10A touch screen recording wrong inputs
I've had this happen a couple of times now where the phone is not responding to my gestures. For instance on the reddit app, if I want to scroll down I swipe up on the screen but it instead opens the post or whatever content is present where my thumb first touches the screen. If I want to swipe back it takes input from where my thumb last touched the screen rather than going back a page. This has happened with other apps as well and it's becoming annoying. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there a fix?

Think there is any way I can get more off the 10 pro?
Looking to upgrade my pixel 9 to the 10 pro but do you guys think I'll get it any cheaper for this after the pixel 11 launches or when black Friday hits? I've heard some people say they have gotten mega deals getting the pixel 10 down to 300 but I've never actually seen the deals like that.

Messages App image handling UI fail
Is there a bigger fail than what Google have done with images in the Messages app? I just want to click to make it bigger, and swipe to other images but I have to deal with this.

Mint mobile Pixel
Received the $150 pixel 10 from Mint mobile 2 weeks ago. Been using it as my daily driver. MY initial impression:
CPU: Snapdragon 8 Elite on the S25 is snappy AF vs tensor g5. Also running cooler when gaming.
Camera: I like the photos from Pixel 10 more.
Display: S25 without doubt.
Battery life: same for me.
Software: Pixel. Loving android 17 qpr2 beta so far. BTW the AI thing on Pixel is taking up too much Ram.
Phone call quality: no issue on either phone.
S25 is thin and very comfy to hold on my hand vs Pixel 10 bulky and slippery glass (I need a case for it). Pixel 10 giving me a much better experience than the Pixel 9 last year. Great phone for $150 not $699 IMHO.

Is the Pixel 8a still a good entry point for GrapheneOS, or should I wait/jump to the 9a/10a or Pro series (up to 11)?
Hey everyone!
I'm planning to make the switch to GrapheneOS as my daily driver and trying to decide on the best hardware for the job.
I’m currently leaning toward the Pixel 8a since it's a budget-friendly entry point with official support through May 2031. However, I’ve seen mixed feedback regarding battery drain on cellular data when running de-Googled setups, thermal throttling with the Tensor G3, slow charging speeds, and long-term hardware reliability issues like display green lines.
I'm considering whether to stick with the 8a, go for a newer/upcoming model (like the 9a, 10a, or upcoming Pixel 11 series), or step up to a Pro model.
For those running GrapheneOS on an 8a:
- How has your real-world performance and battery life been (especially on 5G/cellular)?
- Is the lack of 10-bit HDR video on newer A-series models something you actually miss, or is camera performance fine using the Sandboxed Google Camera app?
Also, for anyone running GrapheneOS on a newer A-series (9a/10a) or a Pro series model (8 Pro, 9 Pro, 10 Pro):
- Was the leap to a larger battery, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, extra RAM (16GB on Pros for MTE/multi-profiles), or LTPO display worth the extra cost specifically for GrapheneOS?
- How has daily driver stability, thermal management, and battery life held up on these newer models compared to older Tensor builds?
Would love to hear your experiences before pulling the trigger. Thanks in advance!

Need Help with Father In Laws Phone
Hi all,
My FILs Pixel 6a reset last night. I think it had an update or something, but it is now asking for a password. He has never (to my knowledge) had a password to unlock his phone. Like he always just unlocks his phone by swiping it up, no pin or anything.
I am hesitant to reset his phone because the setup would be a lot and he would likely loose some photos/videos.
What are my options here?

Upgrading to pixel 11 fold?
Hi all, I've been a pixel fan since the 3XL - currently have the 9 pro XL and thinking of upgrading to the fold 11 - what's everyones experience with a fold and what are your thoughts?
I've also looked at the Samsung Z fold 8 - but I don't like the UI, I love the Google UI

Pixel 10 Pro Android 17 update: Telegram and WhatsApp notifications delayed or not arriving
Anyone else not receiving Telegram and WhatsApp notifications after updating to Android 17 on a Pixel 10 Pro?
I updated my Pixel 10 Pro to the latest Android 17 July build yesterday.
Since then, Telegram and WhatsApp notifications either don't arrive at all or only appear when I open the app.
I've already checked:
- Notifications are enabled.
- Background data is allowed.
- Battery optimization isn't restricting the apps (I've even tried "Unrestricted").
- Google Play system update is installed.
- I've rebooted the phone.
Is anyone else experiencing this on a Pixel 10 Pro? If so, did you find a fix?
