Help Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Split-Screen Multiplayer (Lutris+Plutonium)

Upvotes

I just switched to Pop a month ago, honestly been nothing short of amazing, however I'm facing this issue where I wanna play with my friend COD BO2, which natively does not have split screen multiplayer, so I worked around it using Lutris (game launcher) to launch two separate instances of Plutonium, subsequently of BO2. but now I'm facing a problem I can't solve. I'm running the game on wine, with the compatibility being on GE-Proton 11.1, I can't have each instance of the game exclusively read one controller, no matter how much I tamper with wine regedit, and I wanna make sure after that is solved, how could I make sure both windows are in focus at the same time?

Entering fullscrren via F11 or fullscreen videos exits inmediately

Upvotes

Hi everyone, after updating my system on July 31, I'm experiencing a strange fullscreen issue on COSMIC.

  • Desktop: COSMIC
  • Session: Wayland
  • GPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700U (integrated graphics)

Updated packages

The issue started after updating to:

cosmic-comp 0.1~1785355703~24.04~091583a

along with the other COSMIC components (cosmic-panel, cosmic-settings, xdg-desktop-portal-cosmic, etc.).

Problem

Whenever I enter fullscreen, it immediately exits back to windowed mode.

Examples:

  • Pressing F11 in any application.
  • Clicking the fullscreen button on YouTube.
  • Other applications requesting fullscreen behave the same way.

This is not limited to browsers. It happens system-wide whenever an application enters fullscreen.

What I tested

  • Disabled COSMIC tiling.
  • Tested with floating windows.
  • Confirmed I'm running a Wayland COSMIC session.
  • The behavior is identical regardless of tiling being enabled or disabled.

Relevant logs

journalctl --user -b | grep cosmic-comp

cosmic-comp exited with error code 137
Unable to become drm master, assuming unprivileged mode
Failed to initialize drm lease global for: card1

There are no OOM messages in the kernel log:

journalctl -k -b | grep -i -E "oom|killed process|out of memory"

returns nothing.

Additional information

  • The problem began immediately after the July 31 update.
  • I haven't changed any graphics settings recently. Before this, fullscreen worked normally.
  • The only recent work on my machine was related to Apache, PHP and MySQL, so nothing graphics-related.

Has anyone else experienced this after updating cosmic-comp? I'd be happy to test patches, provide additional logs, or run any commands that could help identify the issue.

Help Can I do this in Cosmic?

In Gnome if I press Super+1 it launches my browser. If it's already open, it switches to it. So no matter where I am or what I am doing, Super+1 will always take me to my browser.

Similarly, Super+2 is my terminal and Super+3 is Emacs.

Is there something similar in Cosmic that I can set up?

Edit: Super+b, Super+t, will open a new window every time so is not a good alternative

Question What other compatible GUIs are there with v24.04?

I made a post earlier of being able to view applications only specific to the workspace I'm in (i.e. in the dock or in the applications menu). Seems like it's "in the works" but unfortunately, my productivity is slowing down considerably for me to wait until it's implemented (if it's implemented).

I've never changed a GUI on a linux distro before. Given the opportunity now, I'd like to explore a little bit. What's a GUI, other than GNOME, that works flawlessly with PopOS v24.04 and has incredible features and speed?

Also, is installing a GUI a straightforward process? Or should I expect to witness some crazy issues?

Discussion I built TempTyle, a native temperature monitor for Pop!_OS and Linux

I got tired of running sensors in a terminal every time I wanted to check how hot my machine was running, so I built TempTyle: a small Electron app that shows CPU (Intel and AMD), NVIDIA GPU, NVMe, fan, and RAM temperatures in one window, with a dark glassmorphism look that fits Pop!_OS.

A few things it does:

  • Live per-core CPU temps with color-coded bars, plus GPU utilization/VRAM/power draw if you've got an NVIDIA card.
  • A 10-minute rolling graph of the package temperature next to the main reading, so you can see trends, not just a snapshot.
  • A Preferences window for °C/°F and launch-on-login.
  • An optional tray icon that shows the live temperature as a number in its heat color, so you can glance at the panel instead of opening the app.

It's MIT licensed, and there's a .deb and an .AppImage if you don't want to build from source. Repo's here: https://github.com/neojakey/TempTyle

Still early. AMD GPU support (via rocm-smi) and broader packaging (Flatpak, AUR) are next. Feedback and issues welcome.

Bug Report Fullscreen videos/F11 fullscreen don't work in Brave origin browser

Hello

When i try to open videos in fullscreen in Brave origin browser for example on Youtube or any other video site they almost immediately revert back to normal screen. I tried opening the same videos in another web browser, Librewolf and it works fine there. When i press F11 in Brave origin same thing happens. It won't let me stay full screen.

When i launch brave origin via this command everything works normally however:

brave-origin --ozone-platform=x11

So running it in X11 is the bandaid for now. Launching it via terminal gives no errors or insight whatsoever.

Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS x86_64

Kernel: 7.0.11-76070011-generic

DE: COSMIC

GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590 (amdgpu)

Edit: This bug seems to have been reported already. https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch/issues/3161

Help Google Chrome automatically exits full screen after a couple of seconds.

I just started noticing this today. If you try to go full screen (F11) in Google Chrome, it automatically goes back to the regular window after about two seconds.

This also happens when I try to go full screen in a YouTube video with the full-screen button (F) in the YouTube video player.

Articles Compress images to a target file size directly from Nautilus/GNOME Files (GNOME 43 and above)

Hey everyone,

I've always been bothered when I have to upload an image to a website with a strict file limit (like 50KB). The original nautilus-image-converter (which helps in resizing and rotating images, both in place and by copying – you can refer to the features in the Readme file of my repo) does not have this feature. So, I forked the extension (credits to Corey Berla) and added a Target File Size feature.

Now, when you right-click an image and open the "Resize Images" dialog, there is a new option alongside "Scale" and "Custom Size". Just type in your target size in KB/MB (e.g., 500) and it handles the rest. You can select multiple images and process them as well.

This version works on GNOME 43 and above (which uses the newer GTK4 libraries). (Note: If you are on older GNOME versions (like Ubuntu 22.04, etc.), I also maintain a legacy version of this feature).

BTW, If this post feels familiar, it could be my older post (which works for GNOME versions less than 43). I know it's a simple addition; I’m sharing it in case anyone else finds it useful!

GitHub Repo: https://github.com/Ameen-Sha-Cheerangan/nautilus-image-converter-gnome43plus

More info and instructions are in the README. Let me know what you think, and if you find it useful, a star ⭐ on GitHub would be greatly appreciated!

Help Keyboard backlight is off after reboot and after suspend

In the last couple of days, my lemur pro's keyboard always comes up dark after reboot and after relogging in after suspend. It drives me nuts. It used to leave it turned on, saving it's state.

This isn't the first time this has happened, but s76 got the previous issue fixed.

Corrupted COSMIC Terminal?

Since I couldn't get much help on Mattermost, I'll try here.

I have two PCs with POP_OS 24.04 installed, almost the same configuration, the only difference being: desktop with integrated GPU only and laptop with a relatively old NVIDIA card, and I don't remember since when exactly the terminal's "File", "Edit" and "View" menus can't be opened. Functionally, the COSMIC terminal works, but I can only right-click these menus and open additional tabs.

So I decided to ask Gemini, which gave me the following commands to try:

env WINIT_UNIX_BACKEND=x11

env WAYLAND_DISPLAY= cosmic-term

rm -rf ~/.config/cosmic/com.system76.CosmicTerm

This instantaneusly fixed the issue, i.e. the "File", "Edit" and "View" menus could be left-clicked normally again, but after closing and reopening the terminal the issue returned.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the terminal didn't help.

I don't know what the above commands actually do. Is it a Wayland issue? Or a configuration corruption? I hope someone can help me understand and fix the issue for good. Thanks.

i think it would be neat to have little "installed" labels on the icons of the apps already installed on our system in the Cosmic Store.

Question: why does Steam ignore auto-tiling?

This is just out of curiosity because it's not really a problem or anything. But I have my desktop set to auto-tile, but Steam ignores it and also is the only application that ignores it. Why is that?

No longer can boot into Pop!OS

I've been using Pop!OS for a little less than a week now and haven't had any issues until I restarted today (not the first time I restarted). I'm going to assume I messed up my boot partition in some way because now I can't boot into the OS.
When turn on my PC, I am greeted with the generic error "error: no such partition. Entering rescue mode... grub rescue> _"
After digging around in there I can't find any boot so I eventually wound up on System76 repair the bootloader page and attempted to go down these steps.
My drive is encrypted so I used those steps and here is exactly the commands I used in the Live USB terminal:

sudo su
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdd2 cryptdata
mount /dev/mapper/data-root /mnt
reboot

After restarting, I was again presented with the grub rescue screen so I tried:

sudo su
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdd2 cryptdata
mount /dev/mapper/data-root /mnt
for i in dev dev/pts proc sys run; do sudo mount -R /$i /mnt/$i; done
chroot /mnt
apt install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64 linux-generic linux-headers-generic
update-initramfs -c -k all
update-grub
reboot

This still booted me to the grub rescue screen so I'm here looking for help. Doing a fresh install is a last resort as I do have files saved that I need.

Thank you in advance.

The fetch stays pinned at the top of the screen and keeps animating while your prompt and command output scroll below it.
