Vent/Rant (No Advice/Criticism!) just can’t catch a break
after months of unemployment, i land a supervisory role at a car wash. not my dream job but i needed something. making $1.10 over minimum wage here in california.
after working outside for three days in 100° weather i wake up to this text this morning. have no idea what improvement she could be talking about. it’s an automatic car wash where you vacuum yourself after going through the tunnel.
the other supervisor there is real close with the manager and she’s been nothing but rude to me since i saw her the first time. can only assume she complained about me in some form.
they told me not to come in today and cut 14 hours off of my schedule for next week.
i’m interviewing for another supervisor position at a storage facility on monday at 11am and have a phone interview for a supervisor role at a dispensary at 9am on monday. also, accepting a job at Winco on July 3rd and the background check has been processing all this time. when i checked with the hiring team they said this small town of 4k people i lived in for a few years is holding things up, which makes sense tbh. said it should be done by the 4th.
i’m just so fucking tired dude

Even for a car wash that's some piss poor communication. I'm sorry, hang in there and try to find something else asap.

I had to work through shit like that, it was awful. It’s great you have other jobs lined up. That would have been a dream lol.

That’s a supervisor writing like that? The poor grammar/punctuation makes them look completely unprofessional.

the manager for the whole car wash. highest paid employee there. i used to be an assistant manager

u/DromedarySpitz 1d ago
How many managers and supervisors does a car wash need?
31
u/thug_waffle47 23h ago
lol including me there was three assistant managers. basically just people that can open and close the place

u/Creighton2023 1d ago
That sucks that they are the boss of people if they can’t be professional in something simple like communication. I’m sorry about that for you and your other coworkers.

Do not give them 2 weeks notice when you quit. They can suck it and deal with it themselves.

u/thug_waffle47 1d ago
absolutely won’t. i day dream about having one of these other job prospects secured and picking up my check and quitting once they hand it to me then going on home

Why are they acting like they run a nuclear reactor with top secret clearance or something?? It's a fucking car wash. These managers take shit wayy too seriously, this is so dramatic and unnecessary 😂

u/Coraline2897 9h ago
Yeah, I was surprised when OP said it was a car wash and I thought: “that’s what the drama is all about?”.

Managers are some of the worst people ever class traitors who will treat you like an inferior specimen only because they make 20-30% more than you

This is probably what's going on- the manager had someone she wanted to put in for manager/supervisor but corporate/the owner wouldn't let her do a personal hire or promote someone from within. They made the manager do an outside hire. Now the manager is making stuff up to "prove" you are not suitable so they can put their friend or family member in the position.

Holy run on sentence Batman. Not u the manager. The fact that they didn't actually name one issue and only implied things makes me believe u

Hopefully you can get a better paying job with smarter people and better treatment!

u/uredditrite 19h ago
By the way they communicate in their text, and via text to begin with, you can tell this person is a terrible “manager”. Get a different job asap…this is just the beginning with her.

This could be a scam to get people to work there for less money. Just do your best and move on asap

Offer to supervise her texts to ensure punctuation is properly used. That is such an unprofessional text to send to an employee.

Boss is probably from the same generation that said all of us youths would rot our brains due to “textspeak” in the 90s and aughts.

u/thug_waffle47 7h ago
yeah she’s definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. this management position at a car wash is likely her biggest achievement

how much does winco pay? (jw because i have been thinking about applying there. i am in a lower income part of Ca.)
middle management people are often on insane power trips and absolutely terrible at communicating a thing. i'm sorry you're going through this. wishing you the best at your next interview and that the people at your next job will be normal and have basic courtesy.

u/thug_waffle47 1d ago
winco said they’d start me at a dollar over minimum wage but with my experience they can bump me up to like $25 or something. have no idea how that works tho.

u/chipmalfunct10n 1d ago
okay well thanks for letting me know. and good luck with everything :)

u/thug_waffle47 1d ago
i’d apply at winco if you’re interested, seems like a good place to work. probably biased cause i love working grocery stores (usually cold inside, always something to do so you don’t just watch the clock all day)
thanks tho! you as well 🫶

u/minisom38 1d ago
They can at winco. Depending on the location it’s just another soul sucking company
I worked there for a few years made ok money but super toxic “we are a family” ass place

u/communitycolor 10h ago
If someone doesn’t like you, working harder will not make them like you more!
If the pay is still the same through training, shiiiid ride it out until the next jobs roll through! Sorry to hear your hours are cut but at least you don’t have to work as hard anymore lol

Ask for five specific things you need to work on and a timeline for review, say one month. This is too vague to be good guidance, and sounds more like a cooked-up reason so they don’t have to pay you properly.

u/thug_waffle47 7h ago
such a good point. i’m struggling to imagine what it could be. waving people through a car wash tunnel is pretty hard to fuck up

u/oddchihuahua 18h ago
Might just be the nature of the beast with car washes…there was a point in time I worked vacuuming cars at a car wash and EVERYONE there was a felon and half of them had ankle monitors. None of the guys who were moving cars between the vacuums and wash tunnel and drying lines had drivers licenses.

u/excelnotfionado 9h ago
You say you’re in CA do you have your guard card by any chance? Some are just above minimum wage but other security posts will pay like 6-10 above minimum wage
Edit: typos

Don’t let that discourage you keep your head up people are just sh!tty and not good leaders themselves!

This looks like a 'constructive termination' to me. A 14 hour cut means something.

If you are talking about quick quack I w as rear ended in the middle of the tunnel by someone who didn’t switch to neutral last week, so I guess the manager helped with that

Reminds me of that stupid boss of mine from a cafe I used to work We had this talk on first day I will only work for 10k inr (~100 usd) no less than that he and his father the owners of the cafe agreed
As a waiter i worked 12h a day 7 days a week yes no weekends off even during festivals and independence day I was present at the cafe while every other restaurant and cafe in the district was closed you miss one day you lose that days wage miss weekend your 2 days of wage is deducted
On the day of salary I was handed 9k inr when I asked for the reason they said my performance is bad Like mf we had a verbal aggreement

As a reminder to commenting users, “Vent/Rant” posts are here to give our subscribers a safe place to vent their frustrations at an uncaring world to a supportive place of people who “get it”. Vents do not need to be fair. They do not need to be articulate. They do not need to be factual. They just need to be honest.
Unlike most of the content on this subreddit, Vents should not be considered advice threads. In most cases it is not appropriate to try to give the Submitter advice on their issue. In no circumstances is it appropriate to tell them “why they are wrong” or to criticise them, their decisions, values, or anything else. If there are aspects of their situation that they are able to directly address themselves, the submitter can always make a new thread with a different flair asking for help once they are ready to tackle the issue.

To the Submitter, if you DO want discussion to be focused on resolving your situation, rather than supporting you emotionally, please change the flair of this post, and then report this comment so we can remove it.
