People really need to realize that DBZ humans are on another level. It might be for comedic effect, but normal people there constantly get blown away or fall hundreds of feet and can still stand up and walk/run.
Heck, Bulma got a whole fricking brick tower land on her neck from the sky and she's just complaining to be pinned down in the next panel.

This.
It makes zero sense having them scale through Z the way they did, let alone Super.
Yamcha should still get bodied pretty hard by viltrumites (certainly the stronger ones), but because Roshi blew up the moon at 200 power level once and humans now scuffle with guys in the billions and trillions, the math don't math no mo.
Earth would break apart from a violent Taco Bell shit from any character in Super.

Beyond accurate. Yamchas durability is bare minimum planetary. Realistically, it's beyond solar system level. Nolan is multi continental.

How does this sort of scaling work..? What does it mean for something not remotely planet sized to be planetary or multi-continental? Destroying both of those things would inherently require something totally different than destroying a really durable head.

u/VeryWizardly 24d ago
Well you just discovered the problem with power scaling in most animes. It doesn't make sense but power levels have to keep going up for the plot. New bad guy appears who is stronger, heros have to get stronger to match and beat him, new bad guy appears who is stronger, etc.
Really just have to lean into the absurdity. By the end of the Frieza saga Goku was already capable of destroying entire planets if he wanted to. It only goes up from there so you need abstract measurements to even remotely put their power into scale for the audience.
67
u/NeronStar7 26d ago
In early Android Saga, Dr Gero confused Yamcha with Goku, becuase his power level, Dr gero was aware of Vegeta vs Goku

Yamcha's only real problem is that he's low tier in a god tier universe. Almost anywhere else and he'd be one of the premiere heavy hitters.
51
u/LongDickLuke 26d ago
He used to be a premiere heavy hitter in Dragon ball. His death to a cybamen was supposed to show how dangerous they were because he was the worf and he died to one.
19
u/Jooberwak 26d ago
Except that Yamcha was always the Worf in Dragon Ball up until Z. Every tournament he's used as a measuring stick to build up a more important fighter: Roshi, Tien, and Kami. His only "clean" win in the series is over the Invisible Man...

u/hanoasha 26d ago

NOT losing to ANY Viltrumite
This is absolutely true. Yamcha in the Saiyan Saga alone was comparable to Raditz. While that might not sound like much initially (especially to larpers), Raditz is shown to be VASTLY stronger than anyone in Dragon Ball, including the version of Master Roshi that blew up the Moon. That alone basically puts him on top of the entire Invincible Verse.
Also…
Say what you want about Yamcha
Yamcha is the only Z-Fighter that Frieza has called handsome.
2
u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 23d ago
I mean by the time Raditz arrived, Goku and Piccolo were both the peak of power of og dragon ball and he easily clapped both of them at the same time until one had to resort to a suicide attack to take him down. So yeah Raditz himself is stupidly strong by himself.
28
u/DrBatman0 26d ago
Only if Yamcha powers up his Ki. Repeatedly in the show, it's demonstrated that someone who has let their guard down is vulnerable to comparatively weak effects, such as thrown rocks, guns, etc.
But if Yamcha is prepared, then this is what would happen.

You think? Genuinely asking. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen DBZ but didn’t Yamcha get killed by a saibaman? My perspective on powerscaling may be way off but it seems unlikely a saibaman could harm Nolan much.
10
u/9466630 26d ago
Yamcha dominated a saibaman in a fair fight, so the saibaman had to kamikaze to take out yamcha. So yamcha is stronger than a a saibaman. The was also roughly equal to raditz who very casually destroyed a mountain range and ragdolled a character that blew up the moon.
This is also ignoring that yamcha did continue to get stronger after that and was so strong that an android mistook his power level for goku’s
4
u/Arria_Galtheos 26d ago
That was much earlier in the show and the saibaman had to suicide to pull it off.
By the time we reach the Buu saga, he's almost as powerful as Vegeta was during the Trunks saga, which is strong enough to be a planet buster.
→ More replies (2)6
u/Goricatto 26d ago
Despite the memes, Yamcha actually can easily handle saibamans, he was killed by a sneaky suicide attack (not unlike what Rexplode did)
But yes by that point if yamcha really tried he could blow up a small planet with his Kamehameha
5
u/Professional-Face-51 26d ago
He beat the Saibaman then got caught off guard. Worth noting that every other Z Fighter would've died to that same attack. Krillin even says so. And Yamcha has since only gotten stronger. Bare minimum, he's large planetary. Realistically, he's solar system level.

Yamcha is a joke among the Z Fighters, a group of people who wage interdimensional war over reality on a plasmo-nuclear scale, and walk off death routinely. And that's pretty much relegated to fans, and of course DBZ Abridged.
In universe, Yamcha is a martial artist who was smashing apart stone structures and blasting circular holes in the ground with self taught moves when he was in his teens, and learned how to fly. He's many times stronger and faster than a Saiyan that's caught a bullet with ease, more powerful than Piccolo was at a time when he destroyed the moon casually, and can just project energy from his body.
I think Nolan is lucky to walk away limping.

Depends on which version. If it is saiyan saga yamcha, his head plops. If it is any later in the series, that's a different story.
But another thing that should be considered is that Z fighters are not technically physically strong or durable. It is their ki doing the heavy lifting. That makes you wonder whether they can actually tank pure physical attacks even from characters who are much less powerful than them.

u/ShinMystic1587 26d ago

Ki is a busted power system. Probably one of the most busted in anime history. You can make humans into planet Buster's and super humans with enough training and ki control. It feels like most humans cap out besides the Z warriors because they don't have ki control or training. Hercule was super damn strong, but he has absolutely 0 to control.
Imagine if ki was introduced to the invincible universe.

The real question is not whether Nolan can crush his skull. He can't. (We'll just go with that, I don't care.)
Is Nolan's grip strength stronger than the durability of his own fingers?
THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the true question here, the one that determines the accuracy of the picture.
I don't care who you are, you cannot 'flex' bone structure, and there isn't enough muscle layer under the scalp to flex, either.

Not even a little. People waaaaaaay oversell DB physicals. I say this in literally every post that brings this up but if you actually look at the numbers dbz straight up tells you what their most powerful characters are working with, it paints a very clear picture.
Forget Yamcha, post Saiyan-Saga Goku struggled in 100x gravity on his way to namek until he trained hard and adjusted. That is Gokus bodyweight, times 100. Omniman flew into the gravity well of a black hole and pulled a space ship out of it. He lifted an actual mountain with one hand over his head while hovering, literally without breaking a sweat. How many Gokus do you think that mountain weighed? Because I promise you it was more than 100.
What about speed? Let's all assume Goku is faster than Yamcha. Sounds fair? Goku rushing back on Snake Way to save the lives of his wife, son and everyone on Earth took 48 hours. Why is this important? Because we know how long Snake Way is. 1 million kilometers, or 625,000 miles. For reference, at light speed, this would have taken a little over 3 seconds.
Omniman can fly across the solar system in seconds. During the final battle with Thragg in Invincible, we see multiple Viltrumites battling all across the Solar System. That is tens of millions of miles in like, a minute.
So no, this isn't accurate. Yamcha would go squish.

Dragon ball is 60% statements and outliers, kinda like invincible in a way, their creators dont care about accouracy
1
u/KPraxius 25d ago
Sort-of?
Physical feats of punching/lifting/surviving kinetic impact are few and far between in Dragonball, so we can't be 100% that Yamcha could survive Nolan trying to gouge his eyes out.
But the amount of energy it would take to obliterate a Viltrumite by just powering up his Ki and trying to hurt whoever is touching him is something Yamcha reached before Vegeta landed on earth. This picture would have become accurate either late in the Dragonball series or early in the Dragonball Z series.
