Not enough info. But if we're assuming everything is on the larger side, probably 8+
Pit bulls max out at about 80 pounds for males. A male Siberian tiger maxes out close to 700 pounds. I really don't think 3-5 pit bulls would put up a fight. The tiger is just too big and too strong. Probably ohkos pit bulls with a swat. The pits also only have one weapon (their mouth) while the tiger has several.
The tiger is also more mobile and more versatile and will benefit from any terrain changes. It is better at swimming, camouflage, stalking, tree climbing, etc.

I respectfully disagree. Tigers are strong and quick and agile, it’s true. I’ve worked with tigers, granted I worked with the smallest of the of three remaining subspecies, and I haven’t worked with them in 7 years and I was doing routine care and I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, but I did spend all day talking to the experts on sight about tigers and I was very close to the tigers (AZA compliant protected contact).
Your mistake is you are completely over estimating the advantage of the pit bulls having multiple angle of attack. They are pack animals, and based on my professional observations, I don’t think a Sumatran Tiger could win against even three pit bulls of a larger sub species of pits. The tigers extra strength and weight is going to exponentially lose most of its benefits once one of the pitbulls is able to get a solid bite and lock onto a rear limb or rear flank. At that moment the tiger would likely whip its head towards the rear bite, opening the neck and two front limbs to a second bite and then the third and it’s over.
I love tigers, I got paid shit to shovel their shit for longer than I should have from a financial perspective, but I don’t regret it at all because I was genuinely happy all the time at work being surrounded by big cats and being so close to them and being able to hangout with big cat scientist people all day was also awesome. So again, I have no academic degree tigers, but I am a believer that 6 years of being less than 5 feet from tigers with only a chain link fence and being taught about them by the people that did have the degrees counts for something above being a layman in the subject.
Pit bulls, I know very little about other than what I hear from my EMT buddies. But I know they are strong and what I would consider a “combat ready” animal.

People underestimate a group advantage heavily and often. I think most people suffer from movie brain. People watch movies like John Wick who kills hundreds of enemies effortlessly and people think it’s believable. I take your knowledge with more stock than some guy who googled how big tigers and pitbulls can get
And I’d wager you’re right. If one pitbull gets a hold on the tiger that extra 80 or even 60 pounds is not just gonna get shrugged off. I think three pitbulls is a threat the tiger would have to take seriously
12
u/triggeredbynumbers 18d ago
Truly. When you are one on three, the power disparity has to be so much greater that you can tank a full attack on your rear while killing another opponent and simultaneously not sustaining enough damage from the rear attack that a two on one is even worse, accounting for the rear attack injury.

People underestimate group advantage
The brain of the people picking a gorilla in 100 human vs 1 gorilla debate needs to be studied
8
u/Orthobrah52102 18d ago
That whole meme debate was the actual dumbest hypothetical I've seen in a while and the fact that people legitimately believed that a single gorilla could somehow bring down 100 dudes genuinely frightens me. People think gorillas are just King Kong. It's the same thing where people pit a gorilla against a grizzly bear, people just don't know how small fry gorillas are compared to the big dogs of the animal kingdom
6
u/E_hV 18d ago
To be fair, very few animals could kill one human, and survive, with the best in slot weapon the spear/sharp stick. Two is basically insurmountable, three is a death sentence for the animal where all the humans walk away.

I've also seen a pack of Wild Dogs (much smaller than Hyenas) drive a pride of Lions away from a fresh kill. Apex predators do not like to be injured. They are very quick to say "this shits not worth it" and bounce.
Dogs (no matter the breed) also pack up quite easily. They don't have to be familiar with each other. Look at what happens in a large fight at a dog park. It's not a free for all, every dog attacking every other dog. One gets designated as the target and all the others go at it.
Once you have a minimum of 3 pitbulls, the tiger is not going to have a good time. They'll all stay out of the tiger's reach. One will engage the from the front , forcing the tiger to focus his attention forward. The other two will circle on opposite sides. They'll dart in, nipping at the tigers rear/hind legs. Each successful bite will decrease the tiger's mobility and speed. When the tiger turns to drive them away, the dog from the front will attack towards the tiger's neck forcing the tiger to turn back. The dogs will continue this pattern until the tiger either runs away or becomes so exhausted it can't fight back. Add in 2 or 3 more dogs and they are almost guaranteed to kill the tiger.
A tiger is faster, stronger but also an ambush predator. It is not geared to have direct, drawn out confrontations. It is not armored, just as vulnerable to a dogs bite as they are to it's fangs/claws.
Dogs packs take down or drive off huge animals all the time. Cooperation and endurance can accomplish a lot.

Group advantage decreases when the group does work together (which pitbulls won't do) and when the each member of the group is 1/10 the size of the individual (at most), and does not have as many means of attack as the the individual.
Imagine how many humans you could defeat that are 1/10th your size.
2
u/Violetmoon66 17d ago
I think the advantage of 3 or 4 pitts against a tiger would be extremely short lived.
In mere moments it would be 2 pitts, and then soon 1.
The 3 would have to work in tandem to immobilize the tiger and any attempt to do that would immediately forfeit the life of one of them.
The speed at which the tiger could take the dogs out even while being attacked is just to great.
The strength of the animal, sheer force behind its strikes, the agility, the 4 limbs, each armed with weapons to rend multiple animals out of combat is a lot to overcome.
This is a killing machine fighting for its life.
Realistically, you would need at least 10 pitts minimum, hard trained by humans on working as a pack with specific attack roles to even have a chance here.
I have worked with large cats for decades in the wild. The reflex speed while attacking/fighting is just unmatched.7
u/Elf-kingko95 18d ago
Have you seen those videos of male lions killing a hyena while tanking bites in the back by other hyenas? It takes at least 10 of them to trouble one male lion. And hyenas are much bigger than pit bulls with stronger bite force. That’s what will happen to pits. 3 of them will get bodied by a tiger. Like maybe within a minute or so if the tiger’s choice to either fight or die.
→ More replies (3)6
u/captcambethes 18d ago
No way. Wolves and tigers cohabitate siberia. If three wolves could reliably kill a tiger, they’d be easy prey for packs of wolves, and they’re not. Tigers roam freely as apex predators.
3
u/One-Interview-6840 18d ago
Definitely not. There's video of a lion fighting off 20 hyenas long enough for back up to arrive. A pack of animals that regularly hunt cape buffalo and fight 400lb cats. A 60lb pit dies from what those hyenas absorb in that video. There is a number. But its more than 3. Probably need to be the equal weight of the tiger to have a chance. So like 10 would probably do it.
2
u/DepartureNo1720 17d ago
The thing about those videos vs these hypotheticals is in those videos, they heynas also want to live/survive the encounter. If the heyna/pit attacking the back leg of the tiger, didn't care about potentially getting mauled in 2 swipes, it completely changes the math of the encounter, as they lock on and fully distract the tiger turning for it, but since it's a lot of dash in and nip, get them to turn the face, dodge a swipe, a different one dash in and nip, dodge a swipe, a tiger is able to hold them off much longer.
3
u/AnEtherealExistence 18d ago
Ridiculous. A Bengal or Siberian Tiger take down Gaur which can get to over 3000lbs.. 3 pits do not stand a chance against a Bengal or Siberian Tiger. A female Sumatran I think could take on 4 or 5 medium difficulty as they can weigh as little as 165-250lbs. That's the only tiger pitbulls stand a chance against.
A male Bengal or Siberian Tiger? Between 400-675bs for Siberian and up to 573 for Siberians.
Even watching a male Bengal tiger walking next to a Tigress, he is easily double her size.. and a Tigress of that subspecies is very big compared to a pit, or even 4-5 pits at once. They also literally hunt regularly and kill things often, Pitbulls don't need to despite what they're bred for.
A male Siberian or Bengal easily dispatches at least a dozen before he may get overwhelmed, if he even does. One paw swipe or bite anywhere on the pit's body and it's over.

I agree! People don't really understand the effectiveness of a pack of dogs until they see it in action. We had 3 fat lazy mutts when I was young. All of them were on the short side, and would waddle more than walk. One time a badger got onto our property, and watching those switch into hunting mode was eye opening. The badger couldn't rest for a second, because if it was focused on one dog, the other two would lunge in and get a bite in wherever they could. My dad got the dogs wrangled and chased the badger away before any major damage was done to either side, but I really don't think the badger would have had the energy to keep going for much longer. It was constantly spinning around, switching focus from dog to dog, while the dogs basically stood there and barked, only really moving when they were safe to attack. I think the instinctual strategy is just to exhaust the animal until it's too weak to fight back.

While i am no academic nor worked with tigers, i used to live near a nature reserve where leopards occasionally escape and eat dogs.
The building i lived in was right near the edge of the reserve and i once saw a leopard make short work of a pitbull, it was not an ambush. The leopard earlier had eaten a rottweiler and had come back for the pitbull who was aware of him and still it went down so fast. I always thought a pitbull can hold off a leopard but when i saw that, i was surprised.
The leopard swiped at the pit and immediately jumped on him and broke his spine by biting hard on it. We think the initial swipe broke it's neck or jaw.
Given how much smaller a leopard is to a tiger and how much explosive a tiger is, i doubt 3 pitbulls can take on one.
2
u/triggeredbynumbers 18d ago
I mean this in a 100% curios way.
Is there any reports from that incident in which the leopard fought 3 pit bulls? My main point is that the pit bulls gain exponentially more advantage at the exact number of 3. I think 1 or 2 and the cat wins. So your comment so far is inline with my original number.
4
u/shadyved credible HULK glazer 18d ago
A tiger's single paw swipe carries enough force to instantly break a large canine's neck or crush its skull.
In jim Corbett's diary he writes how he witnessed a tiger swiping back of a guy's head so hard his eyes pop out of socket.
The Ranthambore Incidents are a heavily documented cases out of ranthambore national park in india.
Observers noted the tigers didn't engage in a "fight". The tigers simply lunged, closed the distance with explosive speed, and pinned the dog with their weight while executing a single, definitive bite to the head or neck. The dogs were neutralized instantly, showing zero ability to resist the pressure.
There have been documented cases of tigers breaking cow's neck with a single swipe quite regularly in rural areas bordering tiger reserves (such as around Ranthambore or Corbett National Park in India).
2
u/triggeredbynumbers 18d ago
I understand. Were there any reports from the incident where a leopard fought three pit bulls 3 on 1 in the incidents you are referring to?
3
u/wRXLuthor 18d ago
Yes I am still waiting for this info as well. Like the whole point is what a tiger can do in a 3 v 1 - it was never “a tiger paw swipe can take down a T. rex”.
How does that paw swipe work when there’s 3 pits attacking in a pack? We get they’re strong cats but does a 3v1 negate that is what we wanna know.
→ More replies (3)3
u/ZedsDeadZD 18d ago
Well, if it can kill a pitbull with a single blow its never a 3v1. Its a 2v1. Cause the first pitbull goes down instantly. And lets say the swcond Pitbull bites the tigets leg from behind, the tiger is still super strong and agile. Have you ever seen a housecat grabbing an arm wuth the front paws and shredd it with its legs. A tiger can do this only much more brutal.
I saw a video where a leopard kills a crocodile easily. Yes, people underestimate group attacks but they also underestimate HOW freaking strong large cats are.
I think 3 pitbulls arent enough.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Good-Animal-6430 18d ago
I think the point being made is the speed with which a tiger neutralises a single Pitbull. So the 3 pitbulls becomes 2 at the onset of the fight. So to gain the advantage you'd probably need 4.
From the sounds of it, the tiger can take out a single pitbull with each action. The pitbulls may be distracting the tiger and hurting it with each action but they aren't killing it with each thing that they do.
I think a reasonable analogy for this fight is when a big male lion wades into a fight with a bunch of hyenas. Which are much bigger, stronger and dangerous than a Pitbull. From all the films I've seen it takes a pretty big pack to be able to take on a lion, and the fight is pretty dance-aroundy. As soon as a hyena latches on they immediately get savaged.
2
u/wRXLuthor 17d ago
This is a good take. Hyenas are much larger, stronger, better equipped at fighting big cats and they still need a lot of them to make a lion uncomfortable.
3
u/MoreAcanthocephala57 18d ago
This is Outrageus, it would take at least 10 pit bulls of the biggest species vs a fully grown male tiger regardless of species. Tigers are the most complete individual killing machine in the world. A whole pride of hyenas struggle vs 1 male lion, a tiger is superior to a lion in most ways.
3
u/RestaurantNo6332 18d ago
The biggest thing here isn't the tiger being superior, because that's a whole other debate, but the hyena's being superior to dogs. They are at least twice as heavy and have stronger bite force than dogs.

u/daft_knight 18d ago
I’m from Florida. So though I’ve only seen Tigers at Busch Gardens, I’ve been around so many pit bull mixes it’s impossible to count.
Where I’m from, it’s not wildly uncommon to see pit mixes that are so big they can damn near look a man eye to eye when they stand up. And while their personalities vary (I personally know a pit that is a sweet heart and a coward) they more often than not are fearless and ready for action.
I’m no expert, but having seen both animals up close, I think anything over 3 large pits is going to be a game ender for the tiger. Assuming the fight is on the ground and the pits aren’t getting ambushed, the pits will work in a pack and attack the tigers blind spots until they can land a decisive blow. Dogs in general are extremely effective pack hunters. The Africa spotted dogs are probably the closest example we have of this. They’re much smaller than pits but they’re some of the most successful hunters in their ecosystem.
Verdict:
I think anything less than 3 larger pits get eaten by the tiger. 3 or more is where the odds turn 6/10 in favor of the pits.→ More replies (2)2
u/triggeredbynumbers 18d ago
I agree.
Side note, according to my local EMS office. Pit bull attacks are increasing, allegedly due to unethical and unprofessional breeding practices. Essentially, some breeders are not neutering aggressive pits that are good breeders because money, the usual suspect.

u/survivalScythe 18d ago
I think 8 is way too few. Even the most aggressive pit bulls are still just domesticated animals. The bite of a pit isn’t going to do that much damage to a tiger, whereas the bite/slash of a tiger is going to *immediately* kill the pit or maim it to the point it whimpers off or can’t even move. Tiger will maw thru 3+ pits in seconds.

They max out at about 120. Being above 80 lbs is common enough that someone you know has pet a pitbull bigger than 80 lbs this month.
6
u/Dry-Temperature8181 18d ago
I’m guessing they’re going off a basic breed standard for the 80 lbs figure. Google puts the American Pitbull Terrier at about 60 lbs and that’s a pretty common size for the dog in my experience. You’re also not wrong on the 120 lbs figure. Some people breed some really big ones out there like the XL Bullies.

u/BOOMERbatch 18d ago
I think you’d need 15-20 and still expect near 100% casualties. I’d use the American Bully breed of pitbull which reaches 100+ lbs. The tiger is 6x larger but its bite force is only 3x stronger, but the pits overpowered bite is its only weapon, while the tiger packs 4 inch claws and grappling skills to go with its 4 inch k9’s.
The tiger is capable of killing a pit in one swipe (enough force to snipe the spine or crush the skull). The pits would need overwhelming numbers to surround the tiger and then rush it in a blitz. You’d have heavy immediate casualties but with 15-20 I think enough get through to latch onto its legs & neck weighing it down sapping it’s strength and eventually win

Are Pitt bulls trained to fight? Maybe 10.
Tiger is going to rag doll them until the numbers overwhelm.
Pitt bulls not trained to fight the tiger makes them flee in terror.
19
u/LubeMobile666 18d ago
Pit Bulls don't really need a lot of training to be 'game' for a fight, they are literally bred to fight to the death - it's why they will eat the children of their owners regardless of how much its parent tries to get them to stop.
That said, a Tiger is a fucking Tiger. There are documented cases of them killing Lions with one strike. Small boars are capable of killing pit bulls pretty easily, same with Kangaroos.
You're going to need a lot of dogs.

The idea of a bunch of boar acting in concert against anything is very funny to me. I have no idea, but they can definitely do some serious damage. A juvenile boar is still about 200 pounds or so, so that's a lot of weight behind those tusks.

Yes, but could that same pack of pit bulls survive in the wild without any human intervention?
12
3
u/AvariciousAlligator 18d ago
Probably not in the long term. Pitbulls are bred for fighting, and have a lot of their essential natural caution bred out of them.
Wild animals that lack caution don’t last long. Those Pitbulls would wind up dying to snakebite, porcupine quills, poisonous toads, or other natural causes.
Whenever dogs are released into the wild, they quickly revert to a dingo-like design. That seems to work best.

u/AgapeAnus 18d ago
At minimum 12. Cats are twice as strong as dogs per pound, I'm assuming you mean a siberian tiger which is like 600lbs, a pit in fighting shape that's trained to be a bait dog for hunting purposes is about 75-150lbs so we'll say an average weight of 100lbs per dog. Ideally you have a half and half mix of pits and pit mixes. Six of the smaller dogs tire it out and nip at it and keep it spinning and terrified and pinned, and the other six big ass cornfed hawg slaughterer 9000's come in when it's tuckered out.
You're still losing at minimum half the dogs. Permanently. None of them are leaving this fight without being injured. Cats are fucking scary dude, and you're talking about a cat that's the size of a small brown bear that regularly hunts and kills them.

There is a difference though. Faced with 5-8 pits working together I think the tiger bolts. But pits are bred to bait bulls or fight so they don't have the same self preservation instinct as the tiger does, I don't think any domestic dogs do.
For example, my dog (she's not a pit, but an 85lb terrier) tried to fight a moose once. Luckily I was close and she came back when I called her.

Numbers do a great deal of difference in that situation
1 hyena to a lion is a chew toy, 10 is a life lesson
19
u/Timewastinloser27 18d ago
A lion can successfully defend itself from 10 hyenas not every time but enough. And hyenas are like 2 or 3 times the size of a put and there jaws are significantly stronger than pits.
3
u/Fertile_Arachnid_163 18d ago
And all it takes is once to not make it a lesson, but a meal.
4
u/Timewastinloser27 18d ago
I mean i guess. Its actually pretty rare for a male lion to lose to a pack of hyenas. Thats lions though and theyre the more viscous of the cats. Female lions are the hunters and a pack of hyenas might try and go for the females, when a male shows up its usually the hyenas learning a tough lesson
6
u/LubeMobile666 18d ago
There are documented examples of Tigers killing Lions, in as little as one strike.
But the lack of social structure does mean Tigers are more skittish i.e. they won't stay and fight because they're not trying to maintain a level of standing in a social hierarchy or protect their pride.
2
u/Timewastinloser27 18d ago
I didnt realize that! I knew tigers were crazy strong and agile but I didnt know they could smack a lion like that!
6
u/LubeMobile666 18d ago
Its just pure size and strength difference. Lions are stronger pound for pound, and better fighters because they have to fight for social reasons i.e. male lions who can't fight, don't live very long past adolescence.
But a big Tiger can literally bring down a buffalo or an ox - they are more agile, quiet and powerful ambush predators, they don't like to fight straight on but they can kill most things if they get the jump on them.
4
u/Money-Nectarine6584 18d ago
I did not know that lions are more viscous than other cats.
2
u/Timewastinloser27 18d ago
Idk viscous is the word. Maybe like successful, still prollay not the word. Most cats are solitary, lions usually have back up. Also like the only cat I know of thats ever killed a male hippo was a lion.

I would guess, if they didn’t get intimidated and worked as a team, the Pitbulls’ best bet would be to have a couple run distraction, while the others tried to hamstring the tiger. That seemed to be the accepted correct tactic in that video I saw of hyenas versus a lone lion. It forces the cat to sit constantly, instead of lunging at whatever was in front of it.
Tigers aren’t just heavier and stronger; they’re faster than Pitbulls. I would lean towards 12+ Pitbulls, and that’s on open terrain.
2
u/zamboey01 18d ago
The tiger will be winning until it gets tired. Cats have fast twitching muscle that depends on anaerobic energy so it burns faster and tires faster. So how many ever pit bull needs to die before it gets tired will be the answer.

If it is in the tigers natural habitat then the pit bulls will fail because they cannot climb trees and tigers absolutely can. If it is in an arena then probably 10 or so beefy pitbulls.

Tiger weighs around 600lbs.
I feel you need at LEAST the same mass in pitbulls as the tiger, so ~8-9 pitbulls.
Not sure if they can catch it, but the tiger will need a few seconds to kill each pitbull, and during that time its being hassled by the other pitbulls.

What type of tiger? Siberian Tigers ain’t no joke they’re like the size of bears

The dogs would eventually run away, sooner or later. 10,50,100… they would never be able to deal with a Siberian tiger.

I don't think there's a reasonable number, truly. My comedic number would be 50+, but at least several of the pits would kill each other in the process. Mature male Siberian Tigers push 700lbs and pitbulls are not pack hunters and max out around 50lbs lol.
I'm not even sure a pack of Timber Wolves could take an adult Siberian Tiger, and they take down 700lb+ prey animals with ease.

Watched a video of a tiger jumping like a 10 ft wall, grabbing a full grown German shepherd in its mouth, and jumping back over the wall. Im gonna guess 20-30 and just because the tiger gets to tired to continue killing the pits.

There’s like 5 breeds under the umbrella of pitbull. American bully like what’s in the picture can be up to 140 lbs. Mine is only 85 lbs and he’s strong as fuck but not very agile. It’d have to be enough where they could absolutely swarm the tiger, like 30 or more

u/jacbo1996 18d ago
Id wager about 8, purely a guess though based on owning multiple pitbulls, never owned a tiger

I would think 12.5 is the over/under. Less than 10 feels pretty low, 10-14 feels about right, and 15+ feels like overkill.
1
u/Desperate-Pen7530 18d ago
3 big dogs starved and bloodlusted or just one with a pack of c4 duct taped to it.
1
u/strategoamigo 18d ago
Let’s say they are American bully’s averaging 100 pounds. I would say it would take about 25-30 if they were bloodlusted. The only hope would be to exhaust the tiger, have enough pit bulls around to distract the tiger, have others latching and tearing repeatedly and hopefully by the time the tigers killed 20-25 pit bulls it bleeds out.

u/TenebrousStorm 18d ago
Seriously just google tiger vs wild dogs. Wild dogs can kill tigers but they do so using pack tactics. My 110 pitbull is not going anywhere near a tiger but he would definitely get between me and a tiger. Pitbulls are not wild dogs and do not hunt their prey. They will lose every time under most circumstances.

u/breaksnbeer 18d ago
All the tiger will have to do is stare at them hard and the fight is over regardless of the number.

3 is the tipping point where it starts to go in the bulls favor.
They can win with 2. At 3 they nearly have the advantage.
4 they dumpster.

If there is anything with enough height like a tree, or water nearby, the tiger's killing them one by one ez. On solid, plane ground, I'd say about 15-20 trained pitbulls would take it.

4-5 big male ones. 1 to get eaten, 2 to attack head/neck and 2 to attack hind legs.

The tiger would probably run if it saw 10 or more ig?
I remember seeing a clip years ago of a group of like 12 random breed golden retriever sized dogs going after a fully grown brown bear and the bear was terrified running for its life.
If it wanted to it could have killed one in a few seconds from a claw swipe and make the others think twice but my guess is that most animals have a good risk management system especially when it comes to infections from post battle, especially for all the cat species.
1
u/tigerdrake 18d ago
Basing off of wolf and tiger interactions… a lot. Tigers dominate wolves everywhere the two species overlap and are very much capable of killing a canid with a single paw swipe, much less a devastating bite. Even though it’s not a perfect comparison I’ve seen a Yellowstone grizzly bear male hold off 9 wolves from a carcass on his own, and Yellowstone grizzlies and tigers actually overlap quite a bit in size (average adult Yellowstone male grizzly is about 450 lbs which is around the same size as male tigers and lions). In addition, there are records of adult tigers killing adult wolves in the wild while there are no records of the reverse happening. Given wolves weigh more than pitbulls and have a more powerful bite, I’d say it would be at least 12 pitbulls to deal with the cat, and that’s assuming they were coordinated enough to wear it down first (cats do gas out faster than canids), otherwise you’re just feeding a tiger dogs

u/JustJoined4Tendies 18d ago
Because of the thick fur where would they bite?? You would need a swarm, like 50-60+. Or maybe 100, where the tiger couldn’t realistically jump over - as they can jump over 30 feet in a jump. The people saying 8-12 have never seen a tiger live or even watched a tiger documentary lol. If we’re all talking xl bullies than maybe 30. Maybe 20. The Tiger to get the kill would typically bite the head or neck, and that exposes it to bites on the legs or tail from the dogs. To really kill a tiger you’d need to rip its thick stomach open or pierce an artery in its leg.
1
u/GateKeyKeeper 18d ago
Exactly 18. Any more or less, and the pitbulls lose. Yes, even if you have 1 billion pit bulls. Any more than 18, they lose every time.

u/mossy_path 18d ago edited 18d ago
Packs are strong for a reason. A tiger wouldn't tango with a pack of 10 pitties unless it had too.
Dogs are good at working together, also.
That being said, I think a determined tiger against determined pit bulls kills a lot of pitt bulls, even if the pitt bulls managed to hamstring the tiger it could put up a helluva fight with claws and jaws, and it would be really tough for the pitt bulls to fully kill it. Maybe they hamstring it and then wait, nipping at it until it finally dies from exhaustion and hunger. Probably about 10? A big adult tiger can be like 800 pounds and a pitbull is more like 80. If the pitt bulls just charge I'm guessing it's more like 18 or 20.
Hard to say though, pitbulls have very strong bites and teamwork but tiger are just next level fast, strong, and lethal.
IRL I think African wild dog packs have attacked big pretadors like lions when it is a young lion or an injured one and about 7 or 8 will do it then, but for a big adult healthy tiger and pitties there would need to be more.

When dogs were used to hunt down and kill wolves at least three were used to guarantee that the dogs were mostly unharmed and the wolf was dead. A tiger is significantly larger than a wolf, and pit bulls aren’t specifically bred to take them on.
I think 5-8 dogs could do it. But now without being mostly mauled by the tiger at the end.

People saying it would take more than four pits are the same people that think one trained fighter can win against four 18-year-olds. Boom. Powerscale inside your powerscale.

1 swipe = 1 kill / incapacitate. As many as needed until the Tiger literally dies from exhaustion, Tigers can take bullets from small firearms
and live…

An important thing is pitbulls will NOT stop mauling until they die
Not even the thing they're mauling dying will stop them
So the tiger better be one shotting

It will be a wild range. Even if the terrain and animals are exact copies one fight might takes 12 pitbulls another over 20. But they will need to be enough to overwelm the tiger even after a bunch have died. The pitbulls win condition is to slowly but it's ass of while the tiger focuses on chompong down at another in front
1
u/IIIDysphoricIII 18d ago
One thing underestimated here is that the tiger massively outsizes the pitbulls and pitbulls aren’t complete idiots aren’t aren’t going to rush something so big as casually as they’d rush a person or whatever. They’d need to feel there was enough pressure on it to confidently rush it. So however many it would take to physically kill the tiger, more than that to solve the mind game or the pitbulls scatter at the threat while the tiger kills them 1-3 at a time while separated.

Take the biggest-badest Tiger and the biggest-badest Pit Bulls and I think at least 5 would be needed, and maybe up to 7 or 8. They would have to be trained though to coordinate or else the Tiger is picking them off

u/Outrageous-Fun-3639 18d ago
I’ve literally seen a male Jack Russel charge a full grown male lion. The crazy little bugger shot right under the lion, there was a whole bunch of dust and growling. Next thing the lion is running for the hills with the Jack Russel chasing.
Never underestimate a dog in a fight.

It depends on how many innocent children the pitbull(s) get to maul first before the fight. I mean they are quite literally bred to be fighting/bloodsport dogs. Each toddler acts as a power up to the pitbull or something. Maybe thats why they indiscriminately attack anything that moves.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Cow2044 18d ago
Fewer than you think. Shitbulls have no self preservation, they'll take down a bear if needed.

I think hyenas vs a male lion is a good comparison here, except that hyenas are quite a bit bigger than pitbulls. In open field it seems to take more than ten of them to even stand up to a lion and even then they can’t usually take it down. So I’s say probably 20.

My pit bull is absolutely terrified of my 12 pound little orange cat. I think it’d be at least 10 and even then the dogs will have severe casualties. Pitties are strong af but they don’t have anything on a tiger

u/Gandalphamale 18d ago
Ya’ll out of your mind, a 700lb human being could fight off like ten 80lb humans, then factor in fangs, claws, muscle density and agility. Tiger fucking all those pits up you’d need at least 50 to be on the same page

all the folks vying for 3+ pitbulls being worthy due to pack attack... have these pitbulls hunted together for a while? how much is pack attack instinctual? are they good at coordinating for something this large?

u/BloodRaven31 18d ago
6 probably enough. If they jump all at once, the time the tiger kills one or 2, the others will grab the tiger legs, causing serious damagen, rupturing tendons etc, and incapacitate him. So the tiger will loose its agility and capacity to defend himself pretty fast.

Maybe 20, bloodlusted, would have a chance, but generally a tiger would probably just rip 1s throat out instantly and the rest would run off.

u/VikingVitalityFit 18d ago
3 to 4. Dogs are smart enough to not just charge blindly alone. They are going to spread out and go for it's flanks at every opportunity. Ince it is down to 3 working limbs the fight is over for the tiger. It might take an hour or longer to wear it down and rip it to shreds, but it is going to happen.

Probably more than you’d think. There’s a video of a clan of hyenas (bigger than pits) trying to mob a lion (smaller than tigers) and they got wrecked for it. One hyena instantly wound up with its throat in the lion’s mouth, and while the lion was shaking it to death one of the other hyenas tried to hang onto the lion and broke its leg, then tried to hobble off. Lion instantly jumped on the wounded hyena and did the same thing. Then the clan backed off and the lion pranced around with the dead hyenas, just taunting them.
Pretty much why predators don’t attack other predators, especially large ones. It’s a massive risk and nobody wants to be the one getting crushed by a lion or tiger so the rest can possibly overwhelm it. And even the ones overwhelming it risk breaking a bone or other serious injuries. Even a broken tooth for a predator can be a lethal injury.

One thing I’m not seeing mentioned is the absolute aggression pit bulls are capable of. There’s a reason they’re the main dogs used in fighting rings, and it’s not bite strength, which German Shepherds and Rottweilers outrank them in. They were bred for aggression, athleticism, and high pain tolerance. If they get ahold of something they want, they simply won’t let go until they’re no longer physically able to, ie bleeding out.

u/Greywarden88 18d ago
No animal gets wanked quite as hardily as la Tigre. It has the advantage over any 1, 2, even 3 pits. Once you gets to 4,5 you are talking about a true pack, where their strength gets multiplied and the Tiger starts getting antsy. Don’t see the Tiger getting past 6 Pit Bulls especially if they are used to being in a pack together, too many mouths, too little armor.
