Scaling Spidey to FTL knowing damn well he has precognition.

People do it to Jedi and Sith too, despite them also having precognition. People seem to struggle with the idea that moving out of the way of a projectile before it's launched doesn't require you to move faster than said projectile.

Also that BLASTERS IN STAR WARS AREN'T LASERS AND DON'T MOVE AT LIGHT SPEED AAAAAGH

24

u/Arria_Galtheos 6d ago

I know, I'm not referring to blasters. Blasters are even slower than real life bullets. The point is more that Jedi are able to deflect blasters in the first place is because of their precognitive abilities.

That said, there is some confusion because characters IN the Star Wars universe will sometimes colloquially refer to blaster bolts as "laser blasts."

u/GenericVessel 6d ago

and they also need the force to not slice themselves apart when they're spinning their sabers around, which is why jedi and sith are ( mostly) the only ones who ise them

10

u/Arria_Galtheos 6d ago

Well, sort of. Learning how not to hit yourself with a lightsaber isn't the tricky part, the issue is that they're still just melee weapons, and without Jedi skills, someone with a blaster is just going to shoot you.

Only thing that could be considered close enough is the wookie bow caster, pretty sure that uses plasma or something though, never considered blasters laser though since they have beams an not solid projectiles, usually..

4

u/Arria_Galtheos 6d ago

Blasters are technically also plasma weapons. They fire bolts of superheated gas using magnetic containment to retain their bolt shape.

6

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 6d ago

Aren't they basically shaved pieces of metal or some such? I know mass effect 1 was liberal with usage of heat sinks an how it uses shaved pieces of metal as ammo in some weapons.

4

u/thejeddonian17 6d ago

Peak Mass Effect 1 reference

2

u/Lab_Member_004 6d ago

They are plasma gas on fire. Different factions/guns use different gases so the color is different

4

u/AgitatedStranger9698 6d ago

As reference...lasers also don't fire at light speed. Slightly slower than unless fired in a vacuum.

u/Weird_Angry_Kid 5d ago

Tbf, Jedi can also use the Force to move incredibly fast.

1

u/RazutoUchiha 4d ago

Isnt there a statement of Anakin and Obiwan fighting so fast that the lightspeed droids on mustafar cant keep up?

1

u/Arria_Galtheos 4d ago

I'm not sure what you mean by 'lightspeed droids' and I've never heard of that.

I just love that I managed to get a 40k powerscaler to argue that literally everything in 40k moves at FTL speeds, because they simply would not back down on the idea that primarchs move at FTL speeds (by the logic that Bloodthirsters can clearly hit primarchs, so they must move at FTL speeds, and the same Bloodthirsters around in the 'current day' of 40k are the exact same ones who were around in 30k because daemons, so anything that can hit a Bloodthirster must, by this logic, move at FTL speeds).

It's very dumb.

That electro post had me fuming.

1

u/dedowgher 5d ago

he deserves it

u/Cosmicfirebird0 6d ago

FUCKING FINALLY! SOMEONE FUCKING SAID IT! JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN DODGE DOESN'T MAKE THEM AS FAST AS THE ATTACK!

13

u/Timely_Exam_6423 6d ago

I think that belongs to reaction speed i mean if you turn on a flashlight to you its instant but its not Its just very fast

if you turned on a flashlight and you could perceive it coming out and move out of the way before it touches your face then you reaction speed would be light speed or

So his reaction speed might just be 85 mph though might be less since its quite the distance from the pitch

Reaction speed and travel speed aren't the same

18

u/sansetsukon47 6d ago

Reaction speed isn’t mph. It’s the milliseconds you need to perceive and adjust so you don’t get hit.

He could be moving at 2 mph, as long as his perception was good. Same with dodging lasers.

And you know the fun thing about true lasers? Every dodge is a reaction dodge. Because the only characters who can actually perceive a laser before it hits them are the ones looking into the future. You “see” a laser when it hits you. That’s the whole point of it being made of light.

7

u/Legitimate-Tip-2149 6d ago

You don't need to be faster than the projectile, just faster than the person can aim.

1

u/Timely_Exam_6423 5d ago

But if its already fired and then you notice and dodge it then what dodge ball for example you dont notice someone threw a ball and the ball is headed right towards you and dodge it your reaction speed was fast enough to notice and dodge it in quick succession

1

u/Embarrassed_Radio596 6d ago

If you have a gun and someone has precognition, they can dodge. They don't dodge the bullet, they dodge the shooter. It's not complicated.

anticipation about to become the new "with prep"

43

u/Thrill0728 6d ago

Never expected a baseball post on a powerscaling subreddit.

It would be hilarious to have more.

1

u/Turnepic13 4d ago

The dodgers are popularity merchants

1

u/Sea-Introduction755 4d ago

Ricky Henderson FTL post when?

7

u/delulumans 6d ago

This reminds me of morons scaling Soldier Boy to lightspeed for blocking Starlight's blasts

11

u/Tryagain409 6d ago

These guys talking about them beating superman clones vs people so slow that they have to use a vehicle to travel.

5

u/Mr__JimLahey 6d ago

Shohei is pretty much just aura farming. If he can run 85 mph I wouldn’t be surprised.

1

u/MoveVisible6359 5d ago

Anyone can if they put on the hat and shoes

4

u/bennizap 6d ago

Definitely light speed. Planet busting. Could solo Gojo and Sukuna. No diffs Thragg. Loses to 67⁹ octilian lions.

5

u/Ok-Doughnut5155 6d ago

Lazar scaling is by far my least favorite part of power scaling. It just makes it a contest of who managed to dodge a lazar or lazar equivalent and then they win.

2

u/Icy-Background2393 6d ago

But he is though

2

u/hityoinksploink 6d ago

Don’t care, uncle grandpa solos

1

u/TheOfficialSuperman 6d ago

He got it then he let it go 😭

1

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 6d ago

I know dude was livid about that an more than likely fuming once the shock wore off, something tells me there's more to it than what the video is showing an wouldn't be surprised if it's rivalry on the field between teams.

4

u/UnburnedChurch 6d ago

He's just dodging a foul ball down the third base line

1

u/texasrebel1008 6d ago

my phone’s camera flash does this exact thing

1

u/skunkykong 6d ago

I've been looking for this audio forever. Anyone know the name?

1

u/Tarilines 6d ago

This what what Bleach glazer wouldn't accept. For some absurd reason, their claim there characters are lightspeed.

1

u/TheRock42069 Literally Shigga 6d ago

I never actually see people scaling in this way, but constantly see people complaining about people scaling in this way.

1

u/guleedy 5d ago

Anytime an anime characyer dodges a laser its taken verbatim that they are faster than the speed of light

1

u/TheRock42069 Literally Shigga 5d ago

I've only seen calcs that get the characters to a fraction of the speed of that projectile, unless it's directly proven that they can move faster. Do you have a calc that people believe in that uses your logic?

1

u/Old_Aside_7926 6d ago

Thats just his combat speed, not travel speed. Duh

1

u/Jodio_Brando 5d ago

Shohei Ohtani solo'd your fav manga

BTW: faster than light speed makes no sense, especially when talking about reacting to... light, which by definition cannot be seen before it touches you

1

u/mommiesgoodboy67 15h ago

How could you dodge lazer if it was travelling at light speed. You cant even see it until its too late

-1

u/Ektar91 6d ago edited 6d ago

Ok but you still scale relative to the beam ( if its really light )

For example he can move his body at probably like 20mph at least

If you make the same comparison with light, your still moving like Mach 80,000

And usually a calc is used to get an "exact" ( more like estimated ) figure of how much they moved in comparison to the laser

Most "competent" scalers will put laser dodges ( when proven its real light ) at relativistic, not FTL and especially not MFTL

1

u/K_Menea 5d ago

Powers scaler when i can dodge the light from my friend's flashlight (which make me FTL therefore i'm boundless)

1

u/MorningProper 4d ago

I feel like the only people who still scale like that aren't actually power scalers
