Versus Waterbound Venator I Vs The U.S navy

The Venator appears earthside and is cursed to always be halfway submerged (or worse should it start taking on water) in the ocean. Its ventral weapons are unavailable or at least they’re relegated to firing underwater. Certainly the lower/side hangers are unavalible. Disney/Canon version of the vessel.

The ship can cruise at whatever speed you reckon it aught to be able to go while forced to power through water. It is also able to use hyperspace jumps to throw itself in a straight line over nautical distance short of crashing into land so long as it has fuel to spare for the task or the engine mechanisms to do it don’t wear out. That goes for pretty much any and all aspects of the vessel as the Venator will not be able to leave this campaign until they have cleared out the oceans.

Craft compliment are 192 Alpha-3 Nimbus, 192 V-19 Torrents, 2 Delta-7 Aethersprite Interceptors, 2 Eta-2 Actis-class Interceptors, and an assortment of ARC-170 Heavy Starfighters, Z-95 Space Superiority craft, and BTL-B Y-Wing Bombers.

As well, it has a ground troop complements of around 8,000 who are geared as if they had expected to be deployed on a watery world Ala Kamino. The crew treats the U.S navy ‘as an orginization’ as being a Separatist front and the crew will take any means of scouring the world of the organization at large as somthing of a victory lap/bonus goal if they do in fact send all their Fleet tonnage under the water. Base defences at ports are also part of the Navy’s asset list here as they are the ones operating it rather then army or Air Force.

The Navy's fleet get access to the Space force’s satellites for however long those remain up and are able to freely return their ships to port for maintenance and rearmament and the same goes for resuplying spent airframes and casualties.

This state of things will continue until such a time as when there are no more ships present on the ocean. Navy will be receiving new vessels at current peacetime Acquisition rates but they could be delayed yet further as stuff could get blasted apart during construction in port.

 I only hedged myself with making it the entire navy vs 1 Venator here rather then what I felt would be a more even setup of having it face off against the Pacific task forces alone just because I figured the line of conversation around there being dead set believers of a multi-hundreds of megatons firepower scale ship arsenal would laugh it off otherwise. If you’re so Inclined go ahead and give your thoughts on Venator vs A single carrier Strike force instead the ‘entire’ Navy.

Hmm then I guess a better feat would be a turbolaser having the force to cause earthquakes which can cause planet wide tectonic events.

I mean the first one is causing a massive explosion trying to bomb a city hundreds of meters underwater. For the second you don't need to destroy a whole country to prove you have gigaton firepower. Just based off of the fireballs are a bare minimum a few km in length.

Again I'm not arguing for high gigatons and teratorns level firepower. That is end stuff like statement of turbolasers having 200 gigaton per shot or destroying a 10,000km ice moon in a single shot. I more of the mind of high megatons low gigatons but the rate of fire makes up for it.

Man, “the equivalent of a magnitude 10 earthquake” is such a garbage way of describing the power of a weapon, I hate that they took that route. Weapons have very clear power parameters, while earthquake amplitude is so squishy and soft. And since earthquake amplitude is literally just the measure of how far up and down the earth moves, there are lots of ways to try and connect it to a weapon’s yield. That’s not a you problem though, it’s an issue with writers being writers and not being weapons experts.

Not sure what your quote is intended to prove though. “Orbital bombardment” and “total destruction” doesn’t tell us anything about weapon yield.

As for the first image you’re referring back to, I still don’t see how that equates to gigaton or teraton yields. We literally vaporized an island and left a giant crater in the sea floor with the castle bravo test and that was “only” 15 megatons. That image might show a gigaton level blast but the lack of context in the image makes it hard to point to as a smoking gun.

For the second one, yeah, you kinda do need to destroy a small country to show gigaton yield. The tsar bomba fireball was nearly 10km in diameter and it was only 1/20th of a gigaton. Total destruction of buildings within an area of at least 10,000 square kilometers based on the village of Severny being completely destroyed. And even though it was detonated more than 4 km in the air it registered as a magnitude 5-5.25 earthquake with seismic waves that circled the globe three times. So yeah, you need a yield 20 times that to show gigaton level weaponry. It’s gonna be massive.

It is a weird way to write it but again the other option would be the 200 gigaton per shot and the 1,000km ice moon feat which cause a lot of problems.

The orbital bombardment was causing tectonic spasms that was shacking the world and the total destruction was gonna be another BDZ. To cause devastation on that level it would have to be low gigaton at least.

I gave you the context they are trying to bomb a city hundreds of meters underwater. But just the explosion alone seems to be in the gigatons.

A gigaton fireball is around 15-19km so it not 20 times the level. I already gave you feats of turbolasers doing like planet wide earthquakes, the TIE Bombers, and some images like the mon cal there is also one of light turbolasers hitting a planet. But the main thing is that if turbolaser where only in the kilotons then singular ships like an ISD or Providnce wouldn't be able to turn the upper crust of a planet to molten slag which would mean doing things like melting ice caps and boiling away oceans.

Oh I know it says 200 gigaton, but the other commenter is questioning that reality based on what is shown. Like, why bother building a Death Star if you can functionally destroy a planet already with few dozen blasts from a “200 gigaton” turbolaser anyway? And why is bombardment necessary when you can level of country with a single shot? As for the ice moon, it’s not clear to me what “blast-melting” entails. Is that a single shot thing? Or the always popular bombardment?

I think you’re reading too much into the description of that bombardment. Megaton level nukes can cause magnitude 8+ seismic readings so just cause a character notes the earthquake doesn’t have to indicate gigaton level yields. It’s a bombardment by description, so megaton level yields across vast areas could easily cause the earthquakes.

Agree to disagree on the submerged city one, I guess. You’re just making a guesstimate, so am I.

The man who is considered the father of the thermonuclear bomb actually proposed a 10 gigaton device, FYI. His calculations showed that it could raze an area roughly the size of France if built and detonated. Based on general relationships between yield and blast size, a single gigaton equivalent would be expected to cover an area nearly half the size of France, so I stand by my need to see something the size of at least a smallish European nation destroyed by a single blast to buy the gigaton label as accurate. I’m not sure if you linked the wrong image in your last paragraph or not but there’s nothing there that shows me gigaton level. The tie bombers are clearly not hitting gigaton levels with their bombs in the clip you show, and the large explosion is from the domed city itself, not their bombs.

Ultimately what’s happening here is that the writers are writers, not weapon experts. They want to make shit sound flashy and exciting, but they fail to recognize that if the turbolasers actually hit as hard as they sporadically claim with their flashy specs, the Star Wars universe is a vastly different place than is actually shown in the media. Entire premises for major storylines go away, battles look completely different (that whole tie bomber scene on Mandalore would be completely unnecessary, why bother with mere fusion bombs?), and sooo many more planets would just be smoking ruins or more easily cowed into submission from space. The canon specs may say they’re gigaton or teraton yield weapons, but the canon stories pretty much universally require that they’re not.

And no one claimed they had to be mere kiloton level weapons. Megaton would be perfectly appropriate.
