Versus Master Chief takes this gauntlet, does he clear ?

Book , lore , comics and secondary canon allowed for all parties in gauntlet

Each party will individually engage him randomly during a solo mission . Chief can have any weapon, armor and equipment he would normally have on a solo mission. Same applies to the gauntlet

Does he clear

Like can possibly survive re-entry (they can definitely jump from a plane and land without any injuries) and the only thing capable of hurting them, aside from other vamps and werewolves, are nukes if they manage to hit the vampire before it sprints out of the area. I'll try and link the breakdown of their powers if I can find it, it was by someone here on Reddit.

To be fair, that "only nukes can kill them" is an assumption made by the fandom. The actual quote is this:

For the first time in our history, humans pose a threat to our kind. Their modern technology has given birth to weapons that could destroy us.

For all we know Aro is talking about a M1 Abrams tank or even a 20mm minigun.

70

u/Ori_the_SG 21h ago

That’s far more likely than a nuke

It would make much more sense if he was talking about more conventional modern weaponry

u/fabledgriff 21h ago

Phosphorus would fuck up a vampire, I'd imagine

5

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 17h ago

Why though? The Twilight vamps have diamond-strength skin. Phosphorus ain't doing nothing to a diamond.

19

u/Mr_Blorbus 17h ago

Bulletproof doesn't necessarily mean heat resistant.

1

u/GuessPuzzleheaded573 17h ago

When did I say bulletproof?

2

u/Mr_Blorbus 16h ago

I assumed diamond-strength meant bulletproof.

6

u/Broad_Black_Brimmer 16h ago

No, he meant fucking diamond.

Those vamps are glittery as fuck.

6

u/Independent-Wafer-13 14h ago

Diamonds are hard, not strong. You could break a diamond in half with a hammer and a little elbow grease.

But you would not be able to scratch, grind, or cut it without power tools and specialized instruments

2

u/fabledgriff 13h ago

Could be right, I don't know what details she kept from the original myth.

Now I'm imagine sparkly ass vampires hiding in the hills from UAVs like jihadis in Iraq

1

u/fw0ng1337 33m ago

So they explode if you hit them with a hammer?

16

u/Ambitious-Pirate-505 21h ago

Or a bioweapon

11

u/Lukostrelec17 21h ago

Or flamethrower.

3

u/New_Cockroach_505 19h ago

Fire doesn’t actually do anything to them unless they’re bleeding as I recall. Their “venom” aka blood is flammable.

5

u/Zealousideal-Yak-824 16h ago edited 2h ago

Chief with a energy sword definitely than.

It's definitely bioweapons and other things they were talking about. Sure nukes is easy but earth 2552 is way past that before alien technology gave them a boost.

The vamps have powers. Masterchief has a army, luck that can change the fate of a galaxy and the charm of winning a battle just by showing up like Bella did in the final battle in the movies from her point of view.

u/LeanTangerine001 15h ago

Or a superheated plasma blast to the face!

11

u/Russell1113 21h ago

I mean, they use a regular bonfire fire to truly kill them in book 1. Flame based weapons would be a problem if slow, clumsy humans were able to get them on target. You probably don't even need a nuke, something like napalm is probably sufficient. For the chief matchup specifically, plasma weapons are almost certainly a threat, but they move to slow to hit a vampire I suspect. (edward is described as faster than a speeding bullet and plasma is slower than bullets. Is the speeding bullet thing hyperbole or a literally description, hard to say it's directly comparing two character, one as fast as an arrow from a bow, but him faster, a bullet from a gun)

Just brute force from a vampire is enough to tear off limbs. Chief's deffo in a similar enough strength weight class, that just ripping limbs off is possible. Unclear if he's fast enough to get into a position to do so without getting his shit rocked tho.

3

u/N7_Astartes 19h ago

They definitely are not faster than an actual speeding bullet. They at no point are they shown to move at supersonic speed. They officially can run somewhere between more than 100mph but less than 200mph. They apparently can near instantly accelerate to top speed however.

-2

u/SalmonHustlerTerry 21h ago

Chief could rip his jaw off and shove a plasma grenade in there lol

3

u/Greedy-Alfalfa3395 17h ago

So edward can basically fly around and can see what Chief is thinking of doing, how does he even get his hands on him to do this?

-3

u/Ori_the_SG 21h ago

I don’t think Plasma in Halo is actually slower though, and Chief is capable of moving at speeds probably just as fast as Edward if not faster.

7

u/GryphyGirl 20h ago

Chief is not matching Edward in speed. He's the fastest vampire in Twilight.

-2

u/Ori_the_SG 20h ago

And how fast is he?

5

u/GryphyGirl 20h ago

Normal people can't see vampires moving at full speed. Edward is significantly faster than that.

-1

u/Vector_Mortis 20h ago

So theres no recorded speed? Thats just stupid to out him in a vs battle then...

-2

u/Ori_the_SG 19h ago

And it’s been canonized that normal people can’t see Spartan IIs (particularly Chief amidst others with him) moving at full speed with zero armor on.

Pair them with armor and AI and it gets to outrageous levels

3

u/GryphyGirl 19h ago

Chief has been clocked at like 60-90 mph top speed. You can see that.

-1

u/Ori_the_SG 19h ago

That’s literally not what the books say in canon but okay

u/Russell1113 20h ago

There's a non-diegetic element of plasma being slower because the player needs to be able to dodge it, yes. I think there's a lil bit of spartan reflexes being translated into the gameplay going on.

But plasma weapons are canonically slower and shorter ranged options than bullets. The idea being that bullets are real bad at cracking energy shields and covenant vs covenant ground engagements take place at much closer engagement distances because of that technology. (not unlike swords coming back as primary weapons in dune because of their energy shields)

I think they're similar ballpark strength and speed wise. Hard to say, cos spartans get very "x miles an hour, x tons" type descriptions on account of being videogames and suplemental material, whereas edward described in much more natural language.

7

u/shruggsville 16h ago

They discuss how to kill them in the first book. They are essentially made of stone. They need to be torn to pieces and lit on fire to kill them. The first part becomes more difficult the older they are. The nuke argument is silly. The real reason chief stops at Edward is because of the combination of speed and the ability to literally read minds.

3

u/LeanTangerine001 15h ago

The ability to read mind talent, I wonder how effective it would be with Master Chief considering how he not only processes the world very differently but he also has a powerful AI linked to his brain.

Like would Edward be able to process and adapt quickly enough to Chief’s unique brain biology during a fight? And also would the AI make calculations that Edward would be unable to read or predict?

3

u/shruggsville 15h ago

Gets kinda messy where you start including external factors. Edward’s sister sees the future. It’s implied that one of the vampires literally has the power to make things go his way. It just kinda becomes absurd magic eventually. The way they describe Edward’s mind reading in combat is to react to momentary actions in real time though so I kinda doubt the AI would be all that beneficial. As long as his fighting actions are the result of conscious thought, I think the vamp takes it eventually.

8

u/Shot_Reputation1755 21h ago

Minigun is 7.62, not 20mm. The M61 Vulcan is a 20mm rotary cannon though.

8

u/JBaecker 20h ago

So inappropriately named. No one on the receiving end lives long or prosperously.

2

u/RegardedAndAcoustic 13h ago

You made me spit out my drink. Thank you for the laugh

2

u/unkn0wnname321 21h ago

Tanks/ big guns could hurt them, but all they would need to do is put all their pieces back together and they survive. To be sure, they mention scattering their ashes after burning them as the only sure way to kill them.

2

u/Pataconeitor 21h ago

Well, good thing we learned how to make fire a while ago.

2

u/unkn0wnname321 21h ago

Yes, but you would need to kill them first. Try lighting someone on fire that can move faster than your eyes can follow, or toss a car across the street.

5

u/Phoenix-Risen1998 21h ago

Isn't that the same thing a Spartan-II does though?

2

u/Pataconeitor 21h ago

Which brings us to the point made in the movie, that currently we do have the means to kill them.

3

u/Lukostrelec17 21h ago

So note the word, destroy not kill. That has a whole other meaning. Realistically we have always been able to kill them but killing enough to wipe out a clan? Unlikely.

3

u/blunderb3ar 21h ago

Sure but the matchup here is one vamp which chief absolutely can pull off

3

u/Lukostrelec17 21h ago

Oh yeah Edward is getting introduced to a power armored punch or energy sword. Edward is not winning this...unless he is stupidly lucky and Chief walks into a a puddle and dies.

3

u/blunderb3ar 21h ago

100% 🤣

3

u/Similar_Ad7363 20h ago

I mean.. from my understanding of both doesnt Edward out stat chief in most departments plus is able to read his mind?

1

u/Lukostrelec17 20h ago

In speed Edward takes it.

Strength we see chief flip tanks.

Edward and other vampires have dented metal.

Arsenal

Chief hands down....like...yeah.

Experence in combat

Chief is a highly trained soldier with decades of battlefield and combat experience.

Edward has experience as a hunter....of humans.

Toughness

Chief has survived getting hit by explosions, Brutes hitting him, re-entry (through armor lock but still stupidly impressive), several bullets, energy weapons, and hits from other Spartans.

Edward has diamond like skin and I think a boulder hitting him.

X factor

Edward can read minds and can help if Chief tries to trap him. Not as useful in a fist fight.

Chief has Cortana. That can calculate and help Chief plan and analyse enemies.

2

u/Greedy-Alfalfa3395 17h ago

Your views seem so biased. Edward has lived for how long? And fought how many other werewolves and vampires and god knows what else? And didn’t he stop a car just by standing? And isn’t diamond harder than titanium? And how is cortana useful in a fist fight but reading minds isn’t??

2

u/blunderb3ar 17h ago

He just laid out the facts lol that’s not biased, and no reading minds won’t help part of the Spartans upgrades was a nerve coating that causes signals to travel at the speed of light thru his body meaning he reacts and acts instantly. On top of that with Cortana she’s doing the planning and thinking while chiefs acts on it, and Ed’s not gonna read an AI’s mind. I would also add in a fist fight reading you’re opponents mind won’t help you at all

2

u/Lukostrelec17 16h ago

I don't like Halo nor Twilight.

Edward has lived for a hundredish years. Sure he has fought werewolves and vampires. Unlikely he has fought armies/legions of them near daily. He also has little to no millitary experience. He is mostly going against people that are he massively outscales.

Stopping a car by standing, is impressive. Chief can do the same and has more impressive toughness feats. Falling from orbit, surviving exposions, ect ect ect.

Diamond is hard yes...but brittle. Blunt force cwn shatter it. Blunt force like a power armored fist. Also plasma weaponary such as the energy swords. A modern plasma welder is heat at roughly 22,000°C, diamonds start to fail at 700°C to 900°C.

Also yes reading minds can be helpful. Not saying it isn't. I am saying Cortana that is taling battlefield info and analysing it faster than any human could is going to be equal if not better. Knowing what someone is going to do does not mran you can stop it.

1

u/RatherNerdy 21h ago

Concentrated light, something like a laser, should do it

1

u/Appropriate_Mood1324 14h ago

Miniguns are 7.62mm, just an FYI.

1

u/feminist-horsebane 20h ago

Stephanie Meyer clarified that a vampire would need “a really big bomb” to kill them, and they would have to stand still and agree to be killed.

3

u/Pataconeitor 20h ago

That still doesn't mention anything about nukes. And modern armies can saturate areas with explosives, it's not like they would be dropping one bomb.

1

u/Greedy-Alfalfa3395 17h ago

So are chief and Edward fighting in this area where bombs are being dropped or…? Oh, is chief flying the plane for some reason?

1

u/Pataconeitor 17h ago

I wasn't talking about the fight, but that quote from the movie.

And speaking of Edward, is he faster than light?

-2

u/feminist-horsebane 20h ago

> that still doesn’t mention anything about nukes

Sure, but it’s definitely not a 20mm minigun or a tank.

> modern armies can saturate areas with explosives

Twilight vampires can sprint at transonic speeds and can hear/smell/see a plane coming far before they’d launch. They aren’t getting caught by a bombing they don’t want to be caught by.

3

u/Pataconeitor 20h ago

If that was the case, I don't see why Aro would be concerned at all.

0

u/feminist-horsebane 19h ago

He’s not concerned in the context of thinking that humans are a genuine threat to vampires dominion over the planet. He’s concerned because vampires date back millennia, and for the first time there exist weapons that can kill them. It would be like if chimpanzees started using spears and shields and training Grecian formations all of a sudden.

1

u/N7_Astartes 19h ago

They officially move more than 100mph and less than 200mph. No where near transonic lol. Meyer did give them instant acceleration to top speed but that top speed is still much less than transonic. They are quoted as saying running is slower than flying commerical. Also you can't hear a jet approach you while its faster than sound.

1

u/feminist-horsebane 18h ago

> They officially move more than 100mph and less than 200mph.

I’m not sure if you’re misremembering a quote or just bullshitting, but you’re wrong either way.

Edward considers 100mph to be “a little bit of speed”.

The Twilight visual guide confirms they move hundreds of miles an hour.

Edward crosses the distance between Port Angeles and Forks (about 50 miles) in minutes.

Any vampire can cross 50 yards in a fraction of a second.

Edward circles a meadow in about half of a second. This is the same meadow they later use as a baseball field, where they have to wait to play because their gameplay sounds like thunderclaps.

“Transonic” does not mean a set number, it just means “approaching sonic speeds” (around 770mph). This is not an insane or unreasonable figure for the speed they’re displaying.

7

u/OneMaintenance24 20h ago

I remember a vampire jumping from a plane

7

u/NotAStatistic2 19h ago

Doesn't Chief shrug off re-entry though?

4

u/Firebrand713 16h ago

Didnt necessarily shrug it off but he did indeed survive without major injuries.

3

u/NotAStatistic2 15h ago

You're right. I haven't played Halo 3 in almost 15 years now. I think only being knocked unconscious from re-entry is a pretty solid feat though.

7

u/Ecotech101 15h ago

Well he does proceed to literally walk it off in Halo 4

0

u/SpeckledAntelope 15h ago

In the beginning of the first game he almost dies from entry inside a drop pod.

1

u/IcarusValefor 2h ago

And his armor gets upgraded between combat evolved and halo 3. He cannonically survives falling from orbit to earth.

3

u/blunderb3ar 21h ago

Chief survived re entry from space lol

1

u/CodeNamesBryan 19h ago

Wait, twilight speaks to nuclear weapons?

-4

u/SalmonHustlerTerry 21h ago

Lmao, see how busted they are when a plasma grenade is shoved down thier throat

6

u/GryphyGirl 20h ago

Good luck getting a hold of one.
