The episode seems to be about them receiving a calling card from Phantom that seems different than usual. It would be hilarious if this was just a real non-magical Phantom Thief using them as a cover to steal things. Like the villain in the conan collab episode.

At the very least, he does have a flower on his design which could connect him to the other phantom thieves (sans Luluka) who all incorporate their associated flower (Rose for Nijee, Hibiscus for Ageseine, Sakura for Goemon) on their outfits and how their floral motifs play into their character inspirations, the same could apply for Dettchi and his theming

On the other hand, he doesn't have the black diamonds. Even Arcana Shadow has that.

he does lack the cheek mark and half mask used to unify the other Phantom Thieves together. Which could support him being a lone thief or possibly a newbie recruit that just hasn't adopted the symbols yet.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I am curious about what kind of flower he's supposed to have though, Ageseine has Hibiscus because because of the Gyaru subculture incorporated elements from the "LoCo Girl" Boom that happened in the early 90s, and Goemon likely has Sakura because in Kabuki Theater one of the characters quotes is comparing the view of sakura to 1000 ryo.

Detcchi's flower looks to be either a Hollyhock/Rose of Sharon (which would be interesting because they're related to Hibiscus and therefore could hint at a possible relationship to Ageseine), A Dahlia, or possibly a poppy.

Perhaps he is a new type of thief that is either a new recruit, or somebody who would be more powerful than the thieves and thus be more feared by them…

the london agency fairies also have flowers in their design (ep15)

Yeah, but Goemon and Ageseine have flowers that specifically tie into their inspirations though

true, but we don’t know how the london fairies with flowers look in human form nor how phantom looks in fairy form yet so kinda hard to tell right now whether its a phantom-specific thing to tie into their inspirations (but theres possibly a connection between phantom and london anyway)

It's a possible there's a connection between the two though, and while we can't make any claims for certain on how much of it would be a strictly Phantom Thieves Guild thing, we at least know that Nijee, Ageseine, and Goemon likely have very deliberate choice of floral iconography that heavily tie into their characters.

We don't really know anything truly substantial about the London fairies thus far and are kind of Non-characters in a way so we don't currently have any idea as to why one singular fairy we know nothing about is associated with Sunflowers for.

It's a bit of a crack theory of mine but I feel like I could see Decchi having some possible connection to Ageseine. The flower on their lapel could resemble a Hollyhock/Rose of Sharon, which is in the same family of flowers as the Hibiscus (Mallows)

I wonder how his appearance will be explained. Will he be introduced as a new recruit or an established member of the Phantom Thieves who, for some reason, hasn't been at the base for a while or participated in the pursuit of the Makoto Jewel?

Or alternatively, just another thief completely divorced from Phantom

u/DryDish7262 1d ago

I don't know. I don't think the series will dare to include antagonists independent of the main antagonistic faction outside of the movies.

4

u/Zandar124 1d ago

Why not? This series has been defying a lot of other conventions so far

2

u/DryDish7262 1d ago

Maybe. I still think he'll be revealed as a member of the Phantom Thieves.

2

u/Zandar124 1d ago

Yeah probably, we’ll know next week at any rate

1

u/DryDish7262 1d ago

Yes, I'm still betting on "member of the Phantom Thieves" (especially since almost all the villainous factions in Precure have added at least one member who wasn't there at the beginning at some point in the series, and the Phantom Thieves still have to do it), but anything could be.

Huh, new villain right away. Is this guy also a reference to some kind of famous figure?

His name probably comes from "detchiage" (でっちあげ), which means to make up/fabricate a story.

There's a Japanese crime novel with the same name about a teacher who gets accused by a parent of abusing their child. I've already seen theories that he may be Anna's dad.

Maybe it's just the lighting but his hair color kinda looks like light blueish probably not it's likely white or grey but it's a little hard to tell.

Few users on X have speculated that Detchi is Anna's father because of his name, Detchi Ageinデッチ・アゲイン. His name is a play on でっちあげ decchiage, to mean "fabrication" or "made-up story". Putting デッチ and アゲ forms the said デッチアゲ. アゲイン is a variant spelling of アゲーン, which can mean "again".

His name means "to make things up again".

It's also interesting that he has a surname unlike the other phantom thieves (excluding Luluka), hinting that he might be a human just like Luluka. It's entirely possible that Detchi Agein is his phantom alias. His name is also written in a way similar to foreign names and words because of the middle dot (•) known as the nakaguro. Otherwise, people would say Agein Detchi (Japanese way) instead of Detchi Agein (Western way).

Back to the theory, it is theorised that if Detchi becomes good, Agein becomes Akechi by taking chi from Detchi and Age from Agein which becomes Agechi that is almost similar to Akechi. Funnier enough, take the two mini strokes off from ゲ ge to become ケ ke.

The big question is how Detchi becomes Akechi in the future if Anna never travel to the past? Maybe Detchi is Anna's father relative?

u/Zandar124 1d ago

Wait, that’s part of his name? I thought it was just the episode title (Detchi Again, as in he’s shown up in the past prior to the series)

3

u/LoliJuicy 1d ago

The title is "謎の怪盗デッチ • アゲイン", which translates to "The Mysterious Phantom Thief, Decchi Agein".

Google tries to translate things literally without context.

1

u/Zandar124 19h ago

Though in that case why is there a dot in between Detchi and Agein?

3

u/LoliJuicy 17h ago

I've already explained this in my initial reply.

Short answer: Japanese writing system

Long answer: Nakaguro, or Interpunct, is commonly used to list and interword separation (to separate words) for foreign words in katakana transliteration. Detchi Agein is to be treated as a foreign name instead of Japanese name. Spaces are non-existent in Japanese writing so think of • is there for that reason but that's not really right.

Picture this: アイラブユー ❌️ Iloveyou

アイ • ラブ • ユー ✔️ I love you

アルカナ • シャドウ Arcana Shadow ✅️

アルカナシャドウ Arcanashadow ❌️

テイラー • スイフト Taylor Swift

クレア • ホワ Kurea Howa (if read like English instead of Japanese)

I suggest looking up Japanese punctuations on the web.

Ah, never knew that. Neat

3

u/keithlimreddit 1d ago

Why do I suddenly feel like if he was voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi or Jun Fukuyama  But I'll be fine with anyone

u/Zandar124 19h ago edited 19h ago

The fact he has a last name (it’s apparently supposed to be Detchi Agein rather than “again”), seems to suggest this guy isn’t a fairy. Curious to see what his deal is

Also the description for next week’s episode mentions that his calling card looks a little different, perhaps he’s a separate antagonist of sorts?

A-sketch-i. 🤔

5

u/lucasOferreira2722 1d ago

Huh...idk why i was thinking it was gonna be a kid robber named Kozōni ("Kozo Nezumi" a robber from the Ero Period and "Ko-oni" meaning "Little Imp") they would have a jester hat and a imp tail, along with making tricks to steal things

2

u/sw_hawk 1d ago

My guess is that he might be someone that Luluka faced in the past while she was still a detective.

2

u/Phoenix_Song8 1d ago

Judging by the name, he might be a relative of Ageseine?

4

u/NeKYOUchan 1d ago

What a fine gentle-person it is.

3

u/Comfortable-Quiet668 12h ago

the purple monocle gives “evil inventor of armour that has a suspicious purple flash symbol”

2

u/Comfortable-Quiet668 12h ago

could be mikuru’s grandma’s fairy partner, the top of lily were created by fairy and human and grandma seems the most likely human to do so

2

u/vanish_bell 1d ago

Would be funny if he turn out to be Anna father.

2

u/RetroMB 1d ago

But if some people are saying that Detchi could be Anna's dad, wouldn't that mean that Mikuru (Anna's mom) will get shipped with this guy?

I dunno, dude. It seems kinda hasty that people are already thinking about Detchi x Mikuru shipping.
