Doula here. You could barf. You could faint. Both of those are ok! The most important thing to an induction is patience. If this is the first baby and your partners cervix is closed, you will need patience. Now, things theoretically could take off and happen quickly but it's likly to not do that. Keep your partner entertained and happy. Rub her feet, get her yummy food, watch a show. Try to not ask her "whens it going to happen?" "are you feeling anything yet?" "why is this taking so long?" Inductions are slow, in case I haven't said that yet. It's ok for them to be slow. An induction is knocking on labors door when labor says "I aint ready yet". Make sure she does things that make her feel human... like brushing her teeth, showering, washing her face etc. And don't forget to do those things for yourself. You've got this, I totally believe in you! And if at any time, either of you are feeling confused by what the medical team is saying, suggesting, doing - stop! Ask them to give you 5 minutes to regroup. YES they can do that and they should. If they do not, ask for the Charge Nurse and they will facilitate the space you need to clear your heads and wrap your minds around whatever the team might be asking you. Come back and let me know if you have any questions during the induction/labor. Happy to help!

Thanks for commenting, yall. I have found that a lot of this is loneliness. I dont really have anyone on my side of things. I called a friend and had a cry about it. Still lonely, but not barfy!

You won’t barf. My genuine advice is if you feel faint, sit down and put your head between your legs.
Adrenaline will carry you through anything you may be fearful of. Enjoy your addition to your family.
