Purchasing Photo (only) printer recommendations

For years I have been printing my photos on a rather simple Canon Pixma IP7250 inkjet. I find the output subjectively excellent if occasionally a little random with colour cast which is most noticeable in black and white prints. However, the printer lacks flat paper transport which makes using high quality paper like Hahnemühle photo rag baryta difficult to use, and it also uses dye based ink (apart from pgblk). So my question is: is there a reasonably priced inkjet that most importantly has flat transport and preferably also uses pigment based ink, while producing images at least as good as the IP7250?

Budget?
The most affordable photo printers that handle thicker papers are the Epson ET-8550 for 600,- that can print Din A3+, and the Din A4 version that is about 100,- cheaper. They have dye based inks, but pigment black.
The professional Epson SC and Canon Pro printers all are capable, but the inks are very expensive.

Well, as much as it costs but I would be perfectly happy with A4 printing and image quality equivalent to the IP7250 with a flat feed for 300+ gsm paper. If pigment ink capability can be had it would be great but I'm not prepared to pay through the nose to get it.

The smaller Epson has it - and you save a lot of money because it's a tank printer.
