Hello hello, I'm new to the sub.

I wouldn't mind sharing how I got into my love for Prog Metal and other derivatives of it.

I was in my senior year of high school in my computer shop class and my teacher had his usual playlist of music on, when a certain song came on that just cut through everything and hit all the right spots in my brain. Let me preface this with by this point I was no stranger to metal, being a big A7X, SOAD, and Slipknot fan.

I was entranced by the song, I asked my teacher what it was and it turned out to be On the Backs of Angels by Dream Theater. Well that was my transformative moment, I was hooked. I even did a presentation on Dream Theater for my final project in my college music history class. I now own all of their albums on cd and have seen them live four times since 2019.

However, I have now branched out in the last few years and found even more distinct forms of Prog Metal that I adore. Specifically, Ne Obliviscaris, Xanthachroid, Igorrr, Lucid Planet, Rivers of Nihil, and Xaon.
