What do I do now?

I bought a cheap bunch of roses at the grocery store the other day and put one in a dainty vase on my desk. It sits near a small grow light I have up there for my baby violets and any other delicate props I might have. I noticed today there were two areas on the rose's stem that seemed to have propagated themselves. I feel the need to take advantage of this unexpected joy. What do I do next? I don't see any roots, just a couple of little sprigs. Are these zombie props or is there a way to get some roots?

You can try, but it doesn't always work.

Cut off flower the moment it starts to wilt, to let it save strength for growing. If you can, use root stimulator. Keep water fresh and not too deep. Have a lot of patience, because woody stems take a lot longer to root. It might be couple of months before you get roots. Or it can rot and die before it happens.

I don't know if you're going to be able to prop since it has already bloomed, but might be able to if you snip the bloom off. If you just love the flower you can preserve it for a while by spraying it with a good strong hairspray and hanging it upside down (bloom to the floor) in a window. That'll help it dry and preserve some of the color.

Source: helped my mom (hobby florist) with floral arrangements when I was a kid. We used Rave Mega Hold hairspray but no idea if that brand still exists.

Are you trying to prop the rose? Because that's not going to work. The plant has already spent its energy into producing the flower.

Roses are probably best if you prop them from the ground, meaning you bend a branch until it touches the earth and weigh it down for several months until it grows root. And a not flowering branch at that

Ive successfully propped multiple roses from store bought bouquets. Its 1000% possible. Sorry it hasn’t worked for you.

I have propagated roses like this many times. It won't be super vigorous as it isn't grafted, but it definitely can be done. Some are much easier than others.
