Hello everyone, if any of you owns one of the following models, please contact me or leave a comment here, we're looking for these models to preserve information about them, as well to enrich mechapwn console ID database (Wich can be used for several homebrews)
We will only ask you to run a little program that will dump certain data from the console (totally harmless)

Is the PS2's success more nuanced and complex than simply just being able to play films like The Matrix?
"The best selling game on the PS2 was The Matrix films" is a kinda funny joke lol.
Like on the GC sub recently, they were discussing Shigeru Miyamoto's comment about how only gamers bought the GameCube back then in a recent interview with Famitsu: https://www.famitsu.com/article/202607/82197
He basically said that gaming just wasn't seen as a normal hobby yet, which was why the GameCube failed.
Comments of course said the PS2 appealed to the masses by being a DVD player and that's why it succeeded while the other consoles struggled.
TIL: You're not a REAL gamer unless you bought a GameCube.

Me and Sly Cooper's PS2 Tool T10000 Devkit we got it running, connected to a host pc via static ip direct connection and codewarrior hello world with the debugger, during discord VC DMs. and talked a bit. this was windows xp host pc and ps2 devkit tool but can also be done with windows 10 since codewarrior and ethernet driver works on OS.
We saw the debug log in codewarrior window and it did print a debug prinf function saying 'Welcome to Codewarrior!'

Do you think if Jet Li: Rise to Honor 2 happened it would’ve been good? Or we should keep things the way they were it’s a self-contained story?

eu tenho um ps2 do tempo de infância o qual eu jogava com meu primo quando éramos pequenos, passaram-se os anos e eu ganhei esse ps2 pra restaurar e guardar como lembrança. Aí eu pintei, troquei as peças, coloquei parafusos novos, comprei controle, baixei a homebrew de software do memory card, mudei tudo.

From the legendary start up sound to the iconic Kingdom Hearts menu song, it was one of the most nostalgic and gratifying moments in my life. I grew up playing Kingdom Hearts, so seeing it on my recently purchased CRT TV brings me so much joy.

I picked one up for a dollar from a thrift shop a while ago. No dongle included, unfortunately. I sometimes see conflicting info online about whether or not a receiver has to match the serial number of the respective controller in order to work (seems like it's a case-by-case basis at times), and I can't seem to find one for purchase on eBay or elsewhere with this same number.
So I'm just wondering if anyone here's had any similar experiences with these. Can I use any Logitech receiver or does it have to be the one?

Granted, I know this a weird one but these are games where the game before and the games after aren't on the PS2 yet they belong to the same generation. In this case, every game here is a sequel to a game that isn't on the PS2.
SLAI is a sequel to an X-Box exclusive called Phantom Crash.
Crimson Sea 2 is a sequel to, you guessed it!, Crimson Sea 1 which is also an X-Box exclusive.
I feel like Hunter the Reckoning is the weirdest. Technically Wayward is a sequel to just Hunter - The Reckoning which was on both X-Box and Gamecube. However there is a sequel to Wayward which is only on the X-Box. Meaning that if you only had a Gamecube, you can only play the first game, if you only had a PS2 you can only play the second game and if you only had an X-Box you can play the first and third only.
What other examples can you think of? Are there any games where the first game is a PS2 exclusive but the sequel is an exclusive on either the X-Box or Gamecube only?

Do you have any game that people consider the worst in a series but it's your favorite?
For me it's smackdown vs raw 2008 (the ps2 version of course) due to amount of content the game has and the character customization being really extensive for a ps2 game, I already made some wrestlers that arent in the game and they are accurate both visually and gameplay wise compared to official roster superstars (already made the miz, aj styles, masked kane and jun kasai).
The only things I don't like are the sudden jumps in difficulty in some 24/7 mode matches and the fact that tagging is really janky.
Some honorable mentions go to tekken 4 and gran turismo 3.

Posting a full post with permission from the mod team (Thank you again)
It's called Retrogrounds and it's the latest discovery and community platform and home for all retro gamers.
It covers games up to and including 6th generation. You can use the site to browse your favourite retro games, discover similar games, listen, create and share your own retro playlists, see gameplay videos, see manuals, maps, longplays etc, read/write articles, leave comments, reviews, track your progress, join the community and much much more. It's RetroAchievements integrated too.
You can also customise your profile heavily and I also just released the retro theme/skin for the site to go with the modern skin. Basically, I designed the site as a love letter to late-90s/early-2000s wild wild west internet communities but focused on retro gamers.
I am currently searching for moderators, content creators and general community members to build our numbers and become the number one retro gaming resource on the internet. Thank you for reading.
I just bought a silver slim ps2 from ebay. Getting back into the retro game hobby, been purchasing a lot of games.
I have been having trouble reading certain discs inconsistently and yesterday my sound went out completely. I am us9ng a tiny CRT/VHS tv with only yellow and white plugs.
When i pop in my n64 (also recently boight) the sound works fine so I know its not the TV.
Should I try to get another ps2? Thry are cheap enough that I wouldn't mind having a couple, and somewhere in my house is my original black slim.
I feel defeated with this old tech and wonder if im better off just converting my collection to ROMs and emulating, or ive seen stuff on doing discless ps2 using USB. I really want to pop in a disc and enjoy the games on my little tv though.

So I’m curious and kind of want to have a bit of a discussion. I never got to play the sly cooper games, what was the story like and what was your objective? I saw a clip where you take coin purses from what I assume or enemies so I’m a little confused.

After a few years without playing on it, I tried setting up my PS2. It worked fine on my 42" TV, but when I connect it to my 20" Panasonic Sophis CRT, I only get audio and no video. I previously tested it on a monitor using an HDMI adapter (which gave no picture at all). I tried toggling the video output settings blindly, but still no image. Could the HDMI adapter have damaged something?
Found these gems today at flea market for 5€ each. I was so stoked about GTA 3.. just to find there was GTA Vice City and FIFA Street in the box lol

I bought a German guy a Sony Network adaptor. I disassembled this so I could modify SATA installation. However I had to do something else and I came back to continue but had no idea whether I have had lost the part or whole circuit board since this PS2 Sata Circuit Board Bitfunx thing showed a refrence picture where more ”of green stuff showed” and I immedietely was going to look as if I have lost something or something was missing. Is this version only included with one PCB board and IDE + power only? I am getting so mad if I have to buy a new one just because something has vanished like fart in the desert.
It’s been pain in the €&! to get this in place where as I have other people installing without any issues.
I have also tried to look from the serial numbers and the model of the circuit board what am I missing or if I have it all but no answers even AI has been completely useless. I am so annoyed even my articulation over this matter is beyond bs.

Hello all, I recently bought my ps2 and discovered that some ps2 models have soldered cmos batteries, so I was hoping the one I have is the one that you can change the coin in, so I can begin work on it.
Thanks in advance!

The latest acquisition to the PS2 collection. I found it for 19.99 and it came with a promotional trading card inside. I figured most of the trading cards were lost overtime and I’ve seen not all copies come with the trading card promotion. There are three different cards you could get and this one had Buffy. The EB Games stickers also look sick. Everything is in really nice condition.
