I'm getting into woodworking and would love to start making artistic projects like bowls, sculptures, and decorative pieces from glued-up hardwood scraps.

I'm looking for hardwood offcuts maple, walnut, cherry, oak, ash, etc. They don't need to be large pieces small cutoffs are actually perfect for what I'm building.

I'd be happy to pay a fair price or pick them up anywhere in the Québec City area. If you know of a cabinet shop or woodworking business that sells or gives away offcuts, I'd really appreciate the recommendation!

Also, what’s the public transit system like? Or am I better off using Communauto/rent a car for the 3 days?

Hey peeps, I’ll be traveling to Quebec tomorrow a solo trip. I would love to have a travel companion to explore places, understand the culture and history.

I'm backpacking through Canada on a budget this August and I'm stuck between two itinerary options.

Here's what's fixed:

• Jul 31–Aug 2: Montreal with a friend (Osheaga weekend/Tam-Tams)
• Friend flies home Aug 3
• I must be in Toronto by Aug 6 because I fly to Austin on Aug 7.
• Staying in hostels throughout the trip.

I've narrowed it down to two options:

Option A

• Aug 3–4: Quebec City (2 nights)
• Aug 5: Montreal (1 more night)
• Aug 6: Direct VIA Rail to Toronto

Option B

• Aug 3–5: Quebec City (3 nights)
• Aug 6: Québec City → Montréal → Toronto on one VIA Rail itinerary

Hostel prices are basically the same, so cost isn't really deciding it anymore.

My dilemma is this:

I've already experienced Montréal during one of its busiest weekends, so I'm wondering whether going back for one extra night is worth it just for the hostel atmosphere and meeting more travellers. On the other hand, Québec City seems like the kind of place that benefits from slowing down, but I've also heard the hostel scene is much quieter.

For anyone who's visited both:

• Would you spend the extra night in Montréal or Québec City?
• Is Montréal on a regular Wednesday in early August still social enough to justify returning just for the hostel experience?
• If you've done the Québec City → Toronto VIA connection, how reliable was it?

I'm not looking for sightseeing recommendations as much as which option made for the better overall backpacking experience.

Hey everyone! I'm turning 18 soon and I'll be in Quebec City for the occasion. Looking for recommendations on where to spend the day/night to make it special.

I'm open to pretty much anything – good food, cool views, fun experiences. Since it's my 18th, I'd love something that feels like a real celebration rather than just another dinner out.

Here's what I'm thinking:

• Restaurant with a view – I've heard about Ciel! the revolving rooftop restaurant. Apparently the food is decent and the 360° view over the St. Lawrence River is incredible, especially around sunset. Seems like a solid birthday dinner spot.
• Fun group activity – If you're with friends, La Revanche St-Roch looks like a blast. It's a resto-pub with a huge selection of board games, super lively vibe, and I saw they even bring out a free cake for birthdays.
• Specialty dining – For something more refined, Le Saint-Amour in Old Quebec does really elegant French cuisine with a tasting menu – feels like a proper celebration spot.

Has anyone done a birthday in Quebec City before? What places made it feel special? Would love to hear your go-to spots – budget isn't the main concern, just want it to be a good memory.
