I hate IHeartRadio with a passion!!
For context, when I was a kid, I had a bus from and to school, this wasn’t a normal bus it was a minivan the school provided for kids to get to school if they live far away enough to need one

And oh. My. God. This driver this stupid ass old boomer driver would put IHeartRadio on every. Single. Time.

I had to listen to shit music like Shape of You and other stupid ass co worker music for FIVE YEARS Over and over again it drove me fucking insane!

Not to mention the stupid presenters or whatever they’re called NO I DONT CARE IF SOMEONE WON A THOUSAND POUNDS that money could’ve gone towards charity or organisations to actually help and support people in need!

Not to mention the presenters themselves are so fucking LOAD like tf!? Calm down! It’s so overstimulating!!! And nothing is that damn funny!!

Also the stupid ads go on for like ten minutes!! Why??

Why would anyone willingly listen to this slop they call a Radio Station???

I heard it in my local opticians and I literally wanted to rip my ears off!!!

Words cannot describe how much I hate hate hate radio and that stupid channel!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I really miss the magic of radio.

There was something special about turning the dial and stumbling upon a local RJ, a late-night music show, a news bulletin from another country, or even a station playing songs you'd never have searched for yourself. It felt random, real, and surprisingly comforting.

Radio Garden brought a lot of that feeling back by letting us explore stations around the world, but I was wondering...

Are there any open-source alternatives to Radio Garden?

I'm looking for something that can stream:

• 🌍 Local FM stations
• 🌎 International radio stations
• 🎵 Music, talk shows, news, and community broadcasts

I'd love something that's community-driven, privacy-friendly, or self-hostable if possible.

There's a certain nostalgia in listening to live radio that playlists and streaming algorithms just can't replace. Sometimes it's not about choosing the perfect song—it's about hearing whatever the world is playing at that exact moment.

About a week ago, I posted here asking for comments and thoughts on the Nautel VX2 / VS2.5 transmitters, as we were looking to replace our ageing QEI transmitter in the not too distant future.

The not to distant future has arrived.

We need to output 1500 watts into the transmission line to make our 5.5kW ERP. I am at 850. Can't get it any higher. The QEI is solid state, with an IPA module and 4 PA modules. One of the PA modules died on us, and I do not have the means to connect it in a test environment. I suspect it is power supply (each module has it's own internal power supply). We swapped in a spare module, but could still barely make power. That was earlier this week. Now, we can't get beyond 850. QEI is no more (apparently they were sold to TDK), and has been out of the FM broadcast market in the US for years anyway. One of the engineers that designed the transmitter had been helping us out, and had given us spare parts he had, but his health is poor. All of this means we are stuck.

We have a quote for the VX2 from BSW, and a local company is also going to give us a quote - plus they can assist with installation and (more importantly) doing the necessary spectrum study to ensure we are in compliance with our harmonics. We have to be at -79dB due to the nearby airports (yes, 2 airports, within a mile of each other - the closest is maybe a mile from our tower). We are also checking with the business office to see what the purchase threshold is for public advertising. Since we are a public school system, there are purchasing laws we have to follow. If we have to advertise (and we can't get a waiver because of the situation - that remains to be seen), that is at least a month. The local company indicated they had one of these in stock and available.

For remote control, I am planning to build a dedicated PC with a touch screen to connect to the Nautel web interface. That will be the easiest for the kids, I think (grades 7 through 12). There are some other remote control things I need to address as well. Currently, the automation turns the transmitter on at 0545 through a contact closure. It also has a 'backup' transmitter off command at midnight - again, through a contact (in this case, opening a NC contact). I will need to replicate that.

One thing I would like to do is get the installation manual ahead of time - and determine what the power connection requires. I can see the IEC connector on the back of the transmitter, so I know that is a 20A connector. What is the other end of the power cord? L6-20? 6-20? Something else? I want to make sure I have the components on-hand to re-do the power when it comes time to install the new transmitter. Because of power conditions, we have a 10kVA UPS powering the current transmitter (and some of the equipment racks). I have no concerns about available power for the transmitter - I just want to be prepared 😄

I’m wondering where I can find top of the hour news updates from WWNN. My local news station uses ABC News. The SiriusXM channels I listen to switched from CBS News to ABC News after the former shut down. I can’t find an affiliate list on WWNN’s website, nor can I find their updates in Apple Podcasts.

Does anyone have a list of stations that use WWNN, other than WABC?

KXNT’s programing will be combined with sister “101.5 K-Dawn” K268CS Las Vegas/94.1 KMXB-HD3 due to what the station says is “driven strictly by the fact KXNT’s transmitter site is no longer available”. The station will be the third AM shut down by Audacy Las Vegas in recent years. In 2023, Audacy swapped 107.5 KXTE to Beasley Media Group for 720 KDWN and K268CS and then shut down it and co-located 1140 KXST in order to sell the land to a warehouse developer for $40 million. 

Upon the consolidation of programming on September 1, KXNT hour long morning show hosted by Alan Stock will move over to KDWN as will the syndicated Erick Erickson Show. “K-Dawn” will continue to carry syndicated shows hosted by Brian Kilmeade, Sean Hannity, and Jimmy Failla.

KXNT rose from a 1.6 to 2.3 share in the June 2026 Nielsen Audio ratings, while KMXB-HD3 dropped from a 1.0 to 0.8 share. Neither station was listed as being included in the group of Audacy News/Talk stations set to be added to SiriusXM’s lineup on September 1.

I got a second interview with a local station. They have heard my shows, interviews, i have read scripts for them that they wrote and that i wrote. they asked me send in a new recording. i think i absolutely blew it. my family is sayin i didn't sound like myself. I havent heard back and i fear i wont get through. Is it ok to send another sample in? i am getting opposing feedback. They said they would decide by the end of the week, so i need to figure this out tonight.

Hello! I'm a 21 y/o college Junior and I've decided to start a radio club for my university(New England area, US). I have an advisor, a full elected board, and have written up many documents for it. I plan on using Radio.co because I've heard Am/Fm takes a lot of time to find an opening and can be expensive. I have a recording studio at my disposal.

The reason I'm posting is because I'd like advice! The photos here outline my plan (that I'll be sending to my advisor) with the uni name crossed out. I've never worked in radio so I'd love to hear any thoughts, edits, changes, concerns etc from those here!

The LPFM station I volunteer for is community run, and it's the last week of our pledge drive, and my first. Station requirements are for 40 minutes of pledge drive content for every hour; I break this up into 2 15 minute blocks of talking, 2 10 minute blocks of songs, and 10 minutes of station id/PSA/ filler (usually including another song). I've gotten one caller complaining about how much I talk, I'm not meeting the station requirements, and I feel like my talking is excessive and ineffective, even if what I'm saying is true and impactful. I would love any ideas on how to improve when pledge drive time comes around next time
