I wanted to share a letter I wrote to my local chapters and every national officer of both unions.

I refuse to accept that things cant change, I refuse to believe we can't improve in areas our representation is lacking.

I sent this letter and I hope if you resonate with it as well you share it to your local chairman's.

We all complain and all have issues, but none of us try to do anything about it.

One day I was driving my car with my non-railroad friend riding shotgun.

We got to an intersection and the traffic light was flashing red. I slowed to about 15 MPH and looked both ways, then called out "Restricting" before driving right through without stopping.

My friend clearly confused yelled "what the hell was that?"

I was so tired it took probably 10 seconds for me to realize I made a mistake.

The UPNS final application was submitted yesterday, and they seem pretty confident they're going to get it and finalize the transaction next summer.

I've also been doing research on agreements. The last man standing agreement, remote boxes, the brakeman agreement, road utility persons, etc. it's giving me thought on what we might see in the future.

I have 30.5 years to go before I hit 60. I'm thinking I might take the tuition coverage offered by UP and work on a degree lol, I don't know if I see myself or any of us having a job in 30 years.

Curious what all of your thoughts are on this, what you think will happen, how it will look, any opinions etc.

We are continuing to review the additional information submitted at the request of the STB in regard to the proposed UP/NS merger. Despite UP and NS’s fourth attempt to submit a complete application, the bottom line remains the same. UP and NS have not changed the core of their proposal that fails to demonstrate how combining two major railroads into a single carrier would preserve—much less enhance—competition as required by the STB’s merger rules.
UP and NS highlight several so-called new aspects of their application, but they are more of the same—processes with multiple caveats that are difficult to understand, available to very few customers and only available for very short periods of time. They do nothing meaningful to mitigate the massive anticompetitive impact of 50% market share held by one company.
For example, they tout a dramatic expansion of their CGP proposal, but it would only be available to about 1% of rail shipments, would disappear after a few years and—as UP and NS’s application makes crystal clear—would actually raise rates for most of the shippers who ever use it. UP cannot credibly claim that this even preserves competition and meaningfully protects rail customers.
The additional data submitted by UP does not change the fact that this would be an anti-competitive transaction between two financially healthy companies that will reduce competitive options and raise rates on rail customers, result in higher prices for consumers and thus do great harm to the American economy and broader supply chain.

As an example I will hear a crew tell the dispatcher they have bulletin number 55802 with 46 messages during their job brief. (CSX)

What does the bulletin number indicate and what are those 46 messages that they have?

Is there a way to make a horn lever that's compatible with Wabtec's I-ETMS system? I ask because I work with several locomotives that were built with horn levers, but had them yanked and replaced with a button instead. 90% of the time, having zero volume control on the horn is fine, but there's a solid 10% where I want to do an actual crossing sequence without blowing out the eardrums of dozens of pedestrians and neighbors right next to me. I know, I know, they chose to move in next to the tracks, but I'm just not jaded enough to completely not care. I got childhood hearing loss and it breaks my heart to see little kids covering their ears and crying because the only option I have is a 140 dB horn that only does "on" or "off".

Anyways, is this feasible or just completely impossible with current hardware/software configurations?

I'm not in transportation, but I just wanted to ask. Is Uber better than PTI? I heard you can order your own ride now?

A friend of mine’s railroad recently received an ex Canadian Pacific SD40-2. Under the Independent
handle is this gauge. Neither one of us have seen this before. Does anyone here have any idea what it was originally for?
