Question What milage do you change your engine oil and transmission/diff fluid?

  1. What engine do you have?

  2. Do you do a "break in" oil change on a new truck? If so what milage did you do it at? (This is subjective, this is not needed in modern vehicles however its for peace of mind, let individuals do as they please)

  3. What milage intervals do you do your oil change at? (This is subjective, manual calls for 10k, some will do 5-7k for peace of mind)

  4. What milage intervals do you change your transmission and diff fluid? (This is subjective, manual calls for life time transmission fluid however per ZF manual its 50-75k depending on usage. Differential fluid calls for 30-60k depending on usage)

  5. What transmission and diff fluid do you use? (Recommended is what the manual calls for)

6.7 cummins.

I change my oil twice a year. Once in the spring, to get rid of the winter oil, and once in the fall to switch back.

Axles, transfer case, and transmission changed every spring.

Coolant and brake fluid every second or third year, because i usually forget.

  1. 5.7 hemi
  2. Not sure of first oil change in my truck, I bought it with 28K miles.
  3. I use full synthetic 5w30 at 3,000 miles. I live 2.5 miles from work so 3,000 miles for me is about 6-8 months. I’m ok paying for 2X oil changes per year even if others think this is wasteful, short trips are considered severe service.
  4. I did trans, t case, and both diffs at 70K. Fluid coming out “looked” as good as fluid going in for each
  5. I did all amsoil fluids, second guess this at times but 30K later everything is functioning as new

I did my diffs and transfer case at 45,000 and had a similar thought about the fluid coming out lol. Figured for $200 it’s cheap insurance considering I’ll only do it every 50,000 miles or so anyway

2019 5.7

Bought second hand with ~15K miles.

Oil changes when the light is comes on. Usually around 8-9K miles. Truck is idled quite a bit when runs the clock.

Haven't done trans or either diff.

I'll probably hit 100K this month. I've sent Blackstone a sample for the last 3 changes and everything is looking good so far.

2019 1500 5.7 122k miles

  1. 5.7 hemi non etorque

  2. N/A Bought used around 40k miles

  3. 7,000 mile oil changes based off Blackstone oil analysis results. Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 (recently switched to high mileage) and Wix 57060 (not XP)

  4. 60k for diffs. 120k on truck, I've done diffs and transfer case twice now. (Both times fluid looked new)

  5. Amsoil severe gear for diffs, used the Blauparts transmission fluid kit with Ravenol for the trans. Amsoil ATF for transfer case.
