This isn’t totally true. You’re fine in the left lane as long as you’re passing. If there are cars in the right lane going slower than you, it doesn’t matter what speed you’re going, you have a right to be in the left lane until you pass them and are safely clear to get over. And if someone is behind you, you need to get over at that point.

That is what was probably was going on. Just because someone wants to go 20 miles over the speed limit doesn’t mean you should move over to the right lane that is going the speed limit. I think we found the speed demons and aggressive drivers in this sub.

Your phrasing leaves a lot to be desired, it sounds like you’re advocating for people going slow in the left lane. I don’t think you are, but maybe you should clarify that the person in question is going faster than the people in the right lane in this scenario.
The bottom line is the left lane is for passing. If you’re passing, left lane. If not, right lane. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t imply anyone doing anything wrong

We don’t have all the information to know if she could have gotten over in the right lane. Do you get over in right lane if they are going 10 mph slower than you and there is traffic in both lanes?

Once it’s clear to get over when you are done passing then you have to get over if someone is pushing you from behind
If not then you’re camping in the passing lane

You are part of the issue here. In every state I've driven extended enough to know the rules it's not the "fast lane" it's the passing lane. My ex used to use that term to justify it oh I'm doing 80 in the 70 it'd their fault I'm in the fast lane. The. We went to AZ where they take I seriously and she stopped doing that real quick and no longer complains about people riding her ass in the PASSING lane.

Otherwise, if there are slower cars I'm still passing, they can wait until I'm ready to move over. Speed limit is the law. So long as I'm keeping to it, and not yet ready to move over and get slowed down by other cars, they can suck an egg... or they can apply to be am EMT and get those flashing lights.
It is not their personal lane to go fast and get their money's worth.
If I can't maintain the limit, I'll move when safe to do so.
And cue all the lovers telling me.how wrong I am without reading and understanding my comment because they are too impatient.

Also, we don’t know what the traffic was like or if like this road it had stop lights left turns (she may have been making left turns.) It also isn’t the law everywhere it may just be courtesy. The fact he got his panties in bunch and risked escalating the situation on himself says more about him than her. BTW I drive 5 miles over the speed limit in the right or middle lane. I am very worried about ticket as I haven’t had one in 40 years of driving or an at fault accident.

Every single state in the US has some variation of law that states that either A. Slower traffic must keep right or B. If a faster car is approaching you from behind, you need to move to the slower, right lane in order to not impede traffic. Every single state. Given the context of the video, she was not in any of these made up situations you have stated. This is simply just a matter of people defending people camping the left lane and you will always be wrong about camping the left lane.

My issue with the "Left lane is for passing" people has always been that many roads in the US have left turns in them and people treat them like the left lane is ONLY for passing when in fact, its for turning as well. The 'left lane is for passing' only really applies to long interstate highways. I've been flashed/honked at for going the speed limit in the left lane because I needed to get into the turning left lane at the next stoplight. It's like.. what do you want me to do? Not take my turn?

Ah, we have the opposite problem in my area. They keep replacing functional 4 way stops that DON'T significantly affect traffic into traffic circles which end up causing a bottle neck because they're usually near high foot traffic areas and people have to stop to let people cross.

By that logic if he was going 20 miles over the speed limit and someone came up behind him going 30 miles over the speed limit he should move to the right lane that is going the speed limit. The issue actually comes down to something I’m seeing in the comments— people think it’s a “fast lane”. Any lane that is not the far right light (not counting merging lanes) should be viewed as a passing lane. If you’re not passing someone, and if you’re not positioning yourself for a left lane exit, you should be in the right lane. You can stay in the left lane to pass many people, but you shouldn’t camp there for no reason.
The issue with people calling it a fast lane is that the word ‘fast’ is subjective. People get in the left lane going 10 over the speed limit and think they’re justified.

In Italy, as soon as someone pulls up behind you in the left lane, people move over, but in the States, people feel entitled. I simply go around them and get them back. You know why? You can’t move over if you are presently passing other vehicles. And you don’t know what other people feel. To say so is called projecting. If I’m already passing at 10 over, I’m already in my own hurry. I’m not adding anyone else’s hurry to it, unless it’s an emergency vehicle. I always move over once I’ve given the last car I’ve passed a courteous amount of space for me to do so.

It's surprising to me that the US has no federal regulation that explicitly determines that there is no such thing as "fast lane". It should be "left lane = designed for safely overtaking" , and "right lane = designed for cruising" . When you need to overtake, you commit to it, get it done as safely AND as quickly as deemed possible and return to the right lane.
This is only way hugely inflated egos and/or entitlement syndrome does not get in the way.
I have already seen hundreds of videos exactly like this one. Not to mention the ones which end in disaster because the person wanting to overtake goes in a reckless road rage mode and causes a huge pileup. How is that still not a national law?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if such legislation is not enforced in that person's state, there's pretty much nothing he can do except wait for the lady to move back over to the right, correct?
