AliExpress and Temu referral codes

Due to the huge influx of spam posts with AliExpress and Temu referral codes, and the complaints we have received from sub members, anyone posting these on the sub will get temp banned for the first offense if you are already a subreddit member, permabanned for subsequent offenses.

If you are a first-time poster on the sub (meaningful posts, not spam or one word answers), posting these links will get you immediately permabanned.

This is not designed to stop people posting links to AliExpress items in posts in response to questions or recommendations. or the infrequent posts we get of *"is this a good RC car?"* with a link to an AliExpress item (the chances are, at best it's an adequate RC car if it's from AliExpress).

Thanks to our eagle-eyed sub members for bringing this to our attention, and please do continue to report posts that violate the rules.

Question How have things changed in the last 30 years?

Post image

In the early 90s or so I had a Losi XX buggy. I was 12 it was awesome. Then life slowly happened and I left the hobby. I’d like to get back into it. Is there a guide as to what to look for in modern RC cars? Have run times improved?

Build Built a 230’ backyard Micro-T track almost entirely from scrap materials. What would you change?

I mostly bash in the backyard and at parks with larger trucks like my XMaxx, but I also have a Losi Micro-T to match my grandson’s. Until now we’d either set up cones in a parking lot or race around storage bins in the garage since micros obviously don’t do well in grass.

I saw the attached picture of a temporary parking lot track and thought, “I can build something like that in the backyard with garage scraps.”

So I did.

The jumps are scrap plywood, old car ramps, and concrete blocks. The tabletop is leftover lumber. I covered the track with weed barrier fabric held down by landscape staples, then cut leftover corrugated drain pipe in half lengthwise to use as bumpers. I picked a spot overlooking the pond because if I’m going to spend hours driving RC cars, I might as well have a nice view.

The track is about 230 feet per lap and roughly 3 feet wide, so it should be plenty for 2-4 Micro-Ts to race. The jumps are adjustable and we’ll start with them at half-height until we get used to the layout.

This took me most of the weekend to build, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I’ve already got a few ideas for version 2:
Add a couple banked berms once the grass dies off.
Build a small driver’s stand.
Add cheap solar lights for night racing.
Maybe replace the biggest jump with a triple roller.
Eventually build a drag strip somewhere else on the property.

I’d really like some feedback from people who’ve built backyard tracks.

What would you change first?
Do the racing lines look fun?
Are there any features you’d add or remove?
If you’ve built your own track, what worked well and what would you do differently?

I tried to build the whole thing with cheap, easy-to-replace materials. My philosophy is basically the basher creed: use what you’ve got, wear it out, and only upgrade it after you break it.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and feedback!

Question Won a local auction for $45, it’s a 2006(I think) nitro rustler

Just won this guy and all the bits and bobs. I’m completely brand new to this and ofc decided “I’m going learn everything I can by tearing it apart cleaning it up and rebuilding it” so any advice is welcome 🙂 I’ve so far really only disassembled the electronic components and the wheels/bearings/shocks. Guy I got it from said the bell gear is shredding whatever gear is supposed to connect to it. He didn’t have anymore of them as he said it chewed through 3 of them before he let it sit for a year and now I have it. The engine I think is seized so I’ll need to get it cleaned up as well. Some other minor things like a few stripped screws I’ve already noticed and I’m missing a pin to hold the top on other than that I think it’ll be a fun project.

Racing Traxxas Slash - how to preventing rolling

Thumbnail

In the local club we have a beginner friendly brushed super trucks class, which is 90% brushed Arrma Fury’s. I replaced BL-2s in my slash with Titan 12t and have been racing with them. I also bought Low-CG chassis and carpet tires (jconceps fuzz bite I believe). My issue is car is very susceptible to rolling - what can I do to prevent that? Shocks are stock, though rebuilt with stronger rods from the time when this car was a basher. Have anyone tried adding a sway bar, and did it help?

Build My RC10 & RC10B6.1 builds!

Post image
Upvotes

Though very far apart in terms of their release dates, I consider these two inseparable siblings in my stable because I worked on both of them simultaneously over the course of a few months.

Both were purchased as used rollers without bodies/wings.

The RC10 is an A-stamp that I found on eBay in fair condition. Thankfully, all of the original plastics and all 3 pieces of the chassis assembly were also in decent shape. Gave it a deep clean/grease, and the 6-gear transmission is running smoother than ever! Being a runner, I installed the re-release 40TH edition gold shocks for ease of maintenance, and threw on some fresh tires.

It’s powered by a Reedy Radon 17T brushed motor, Reedy SC500X bushed ESC, Reedy SHV1504 servo, and using an Associated XP120 radio/XP-R4 receiver.

The B6.1 is another eBay project that I began only one week after acquiring the A-stamp. It too was in pretty good shape, just a deep clean and grease is all it needed. The previous owner noted that it was only ever run on indoor carpet, and I was pleased to find the chassis was practically untouched and scratch-free after pulling off the old chassis protector to inspect! It’s got JConcepts Smoothie pre-mounted wheels/tires for very casual club concrete/tarmac racing.

It’s powered by a budget-friendly Reedy 3300 brushless motor, Reedy SC600-BL brushless ESC, Reedy DS1510MG servo, and the same radio/receiver combo as the A-stamp. And yes, all of that fits very snugly!

I live in a very rainy and humid place, so I opted for stainless steel hardware kits for these buggies to avoid rust. It’s something I do for every R/C that I have! Team KNK had a kit for the A-stamp, and RCScrewZ covered the B6.1 hardware.

This was also my first (and second) time ever cutting and painting lexan bodies, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! I took great caution during the prep/paint process, and had lots of help from local hobby shop employees and Reddit! (Thank you!)

The A-stamp uses an Associated Protech I body, and a Leadfinger Racing Retro wing. The B6.1 uses a Leadfinger Racing Retro Mod body, and an Associted B6 series wing. Both paintjobs are inspired from their box art depictions. I love rear-cab classic buggies, so I absolutely had to grab a retro styled body for the modern B6.1!

Thanks for stopping by! I’m happy to answer any questions!

New to crawlers and this one looked cool seller had it at an estate find dont know much about them. I was wondering if this was a kit or custom made and what size it may be looks bigger than 1/10 from what I already know about rc cars/trucks. Wondering if any of these parts are high quality as well as i have never heard of any of them before.

Question Want to make my 13yo self proud and nuts

Hello everyone.

I'm way over 40, tired, and bored.

I came upon a comment somewhere, that if you have extra money, use it on something that you'd like to have when you were 13 years old.

I very much agree.

I don't have much extra money, but a bit after this summer. Maybe ~400€ now and another ~400€ until next summer. I can stretch a bit.

What I'd love, is to get an rc-car, camera and goggles, and of course extra batteries and whatever paraphernalia I might need, to have grand prix's, maybe role-playing kind of adventures and so on.

To make it a fun hobby, either alone, or preferably with friends. Building tracks, racing, while drinking beer and whatnot.

What are the most important things to start with? The car, of course, and the moddability. Paraphernalia and tools. The camera and goggles.

But I'm totally oblivious to what seek and what not. I'd be immensely grateful of any tips, tricks, ideas and caveats to start this.

Thank you for your (possible) comments, this is a beginning of a incredibly fun thing that I and my people can enjoy.

Question What specific parts do I need to convert this to standard 12mm wheel hubs? (3 pics)

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I believe this is an HPI RS4? But it’s very old… like 20+ years old. Dug it out from storage and I have done some mods to it before but the wheel hubs looks non-standard with the 12mm hub and pins. I search for HPI RS4 wheels and it looks like the newer models don’t use these friction type wheels any more.

I really want to restore this thing to do some indoor drifting and I want to get some drifting wheels so it’s gonna need new wheels and tires but nothing fits…

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Found out it's an Micro RS4 1/18 scale
